Rated 1 de 5 de par snapped in half after six uses Today was the sixth time I've used this aerator in about two years to aerate our acre-sized lawn, and it broke in half in the middle of my yard! The tongue broke/bent and the bracket underneath sheared off causing one of the wheels (which were up at the time because I was using it to aerate) to fall off. No, I didn't have it loaded with 500 pounds or something. Just the four concrete blocks it says you can put on. It has always done an ok job up till now, but I'm not happy with it at all after this. It's sitting on the scrap pile waiting to go to the junk yard. It supposedly has a three year warranty, so we'll see if they honor that or not.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Customer Support I purchased the 48" Plug Areator, went together easily. Once it was together I discovered the wheels would not raise the plug knives high enough to clear the ground in transport position. I checked that I put it together correctly, which I did.. I called the toll free support line and talked with Vicky( very nice and efficient) I explained the problem I had, she told me the shaft was mis-drilled and they would send me a replacement which arrived at my home in a few days. Although I was not happy about having the problem in the first place, I was extremely pleased how quickly Agri-Fab responded to solve the problem. Well Done! Thanks

Rated 4 de 5 de par AGRI-FAB vs. BRINLY-HARDY AGRI-FAB 48" (wider than Brinly): 13 gauge steel box (thicker than Brinly) 12 gauge steel knives (thicker than Brinly) The square plates have 4 "spot-welds" to attach them to the spindles. (worse than Brinly). Spindles rotate on plastic split bearings. Pneumatic tire pressure is adjustable. 3-year warranty (better than Brinly) Agri-Fab did not respond to repeated e-mail inquiries for technical information. BRINLY-HARDY 40": 14 gauge steel box 16 gauge steel knives The square plates are welded 360 degrees around each spindle. Spindles rotate on plastic bushings. Tires are semi-pneumatic; not inflated and can not adjust pressure. 2-year warranty Brinly customer service was much more responsive to questions via e-mail.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Great aerator I just love this machine. I have 3 acres, and didn't take no time to double pass it with this aerator. The only complaint I have is it is a bit challenging and confusing to put together. I had to grind about 1/4 inch off the bottom of the trip handle to fit it since it was fabricated too long. Pay close attention to the diagrams, keep a measuring tape handy to measure the length of each spacer when instructed to install. I like the fact that every two rows of plugs turn independently of the rest therefore doing less damage to the yard on turns. Heavy duty parts and hardware came in the box. It should last many years of trouble free use.

Rated 4 de 5 de par For the money, an excellent piece of gear For the money, an excellent piece of gear. I have used professional grade aerators in the past. Pro grade are made to be used nonstop and take a beating. They are also very expensive to buy or rent. This is definitely a home owner grade piece of gear, but an excellent home owner grade piece of gear. It is also economical. Home Depot rents powered aerators in my area for about $75 a day. The Agri-Fab aerator pays for itself in about two uses. Lots of parts to assemble, but not difficult. I live in north Texas and have various types of soil ranging from rocky to hard clay. On average, this aerator operates as advertised for depth of plugs.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Great for the price! Great product with clear directions to assemble. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to fully assemble without an assistant. There is a video on the mfr's website to assist with assembly which I thought was pretty cool even though the paper directions were clear as well. TIPS: Assemble the unit wearing gloves, long sleeves, pants, and good shoes. You will have to maneuver your body in close proximity to the tines - I cut myself several times because I did not wear appropriate clothes to assemble. I plan to use a rubberized spray coating on the block surface to aid in anti-slide and for protection against scratches that may lead to rust.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Aerator is good product and made in USA I've only used it once so far but it did a reasonable job. I loaded it with 3 - 40 Lb bags of water softener salt (max weight is 140 Lb) but I would have preferred the plugs to be a little deeper - I'd say they averaged 1-1/2". The ground was a little hard so I'm going to try again after a good rain. I'm also going to add grease fittings to the knife Assembly since there is no good way to lubricate the shaft. Pros: Relatively well made. Good value. Made in USA. Works fairly well. Easy, though somewhat time consuming, to assemble (be careful, knives are sharp). Shipped quick. Cons. Lever that raises aerator knives can't be reached from tractor seat. Box arrived fairly beat up - fortunately no pieces were missing.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Mine lasted 15 years with a little nursing along 1 acre lawn, used mine twice a year for 15 years. Like another user, my tow tongue broke in half after 4 years, but I bolted some angle iron on it and got another 11 years of use. One wheel fell off after 10 years. It finally broke for good just now as the center axle support bracket sheared in half. It is repairable with some more angle iron, but rust is starting to take over so time for the scrap yard. If they had used heavier gauge metal on the tow tongue and center bracket it would still be working, probably forever. I would not call it well made due to the light gauge sheet metal, but it did the trick. I am heading to Home Depot to buy another one, will post again in 15 years.

HP to pull Aerator

What horse power engine should I expect to use for adequately pulling the aerator, especially with 140 lbs of extra weight? I have an old rear engine mower that does have a tow bar acceptor on the back. I use a single-gang, reel mower most of the year to adequagtely cut Bermuda grass to the lower, consistant height requirements. The engine is only a 12 HP Briggs & Stratton.
Posée par: eieio
18 HP and above should pull fine on level, dry ground. Lawn tractors or small atv will work well.

Does the current model offered as of August 2020 come with pneumatic wheels?
Posée par: Commando
Dear Commando - Agri-Fab no longer manufactures the plug aerator with pneumatic tires. A few years ago we changed to the flat free tires as a result of overwhelming customer requests and to keep the product "Made in America". If you have additional questions the Agri-Fab customer care team is available Monday - Friday between 7 am to 5 pm CST at 800-448-9282.

What happens to the plugs?

What happens to the plugs?
Posée par: Otto
The plugs should not be raked up. Just leave them on the surface until they break down. After you mow a couple times and get some rain, they'll be just about gone.

Do you have to put it together or is it ready to go?

Posée par: Jdmartin
You have to attempt to put it together however, I am an automotive mechanic and also have an engineering degree and due to improper machining this product is not possible to assemble unless you are able to drill a hole through a heavy 1" roughly steel shaft. DO NOT BUY!

Will wet sticky clay plug up the slots

Posée par: TJ
TJ, Yes I am sure it will push up in the spikes, however, they are spikes so the aerator should still do the job. Make sure you get some cement blocks for it if you get one. Be VERY careful when you install the spike rotors. Those spikes sliced me pretty good when I slipped tightening them down.

What is the height of the hitch when you are aeratoring ( I have a Kubota tractor and the drawbar height is 15" ) I just want to make sure there isn't a large angle when aerating Thanks

Posée par: Dean
Hitch height should be between 10 and 12 in. It should be level to get the best results. Thank you for your interest in Agri-Fab products.
