Rated 5 de 5 de par Lools great! Easy to install and looks great. One thing i would mention is start from the bottom step and work your way up.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Great Product Installed these Stair Treads and had no issues whatsoever with the product. Getting the nosing removed from the old stairs was the hardest part. Replaced 14 stairs and had no problems at all. I stained the steps and painted the risers white, which actually took longer than installing the actual stairs. I did use a table saw as a circular saw just didn't do the job.

Rated 1 de 5 de par These won't last; I know I'm a trade professional Firstly these are made of cheap soft core plywood. The core is very soft and will dent quickly and the bull-nose will soon break off too. I'm a certified carpenter/cabinet maker and Ive been properly re-capping stairs for more than 20 years. These are a waste of money. Especially when you consider that you can buy real, solid lumber treads elsewhere for the same money. If you are going to do it then do it right, you'll be glad you did. Rated 1 de 5 de par advertising misleading The package and website advertise this as a 10 1/8 inch tread. It is NOT. The 10 1/8" is from the tip of the bullnose to the back of the tread. the tread this will fit over is 9". If the riser is put in as recommended by install instructions (not by proper procedure), then that will give you 9 5/8" for your tread. If you have a tread that is ANY bigger it will not work. The riser piece is a full 7.5", so no worries there. The instructions recommend removing the bullnose. I ended up leaving on my bullnose, sanding down the last 3/8" and staining that, then cutting 2" off the riser so it would fit inside and under the existing bullnose, borrowing a biscuit cutter, taking the 2" I cut off the riser and clamped and glued it to the tread, not a perfect match but looked ok. The riser is thinner than the tread, and has much thinner oak veneer on it than the tread, the tread is not solid oak, but about 1/16" veneer except the bullnose which is solid. Would have been way less work to buy solid oak, router it and made my own steps. Didn't realize they wouldn't fit a 10" tread as advertised until I already had one cut, live 1.3 hours from the store so made it work, but not impressed.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Narrow stairs Does anyone have stairs this narrow? I don't think I have ever seen stairs this narrow. I thought they would make a product that would work out to cover a normal set of stairs. I feel like an idiot for having bought this product. It would have looked beautiful but the wrong size means I have to fill in gaps which makes the finished stairs look cheap now. Unless you have uncomfortably narrow stairs or they start offer a proper depth to the treads (they are currently almost a full inch too narrow). This product could be great but as it stands it is useless.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Ok product; poor instructions My husband and I are new to the world of home renovations. However, when we saw these kits, we were eager to try it given that it was advertised as a fairly easy project that needed minimal tools. The instructions stated that the only cutting device needed was a circular saw. This, in my opinion, was very misleading. If you want to do a good, professional looking job, you will definitely need a sliding compound miter saw and a table saw. We did end up using these tools and found that the results were exceptional. Unless you have a very steady hand, I wouldn't risk trying this project with just a circular saw. The product is good quality and easy to work with; 5/5 on that aspect. However, the instructions and marketing of this project is misleading. 2-3/5

Rated 5 de 5 de par False stair tread and riser I purchased and installed this product several weeks ago , and nothing but compliments on how great they look . The actual start to finish time [ 6 stair kits ] was about 4 hours of work spread out over several days [ fitting - sanding - staining - varathane - install ] . Super easy job for anyone ! Very inexpensive for a set of oak stairs , I will be changing out another set of stairs soon . One caution , unwrap the kits and let them sit for a week or so to aclimatize to your house [ so they won't shrink after installation ] .

This is great for the steps, but what do you do about landings?

    Posée par: Anonyme
Us real hardwood flooring and a bull-nose for your landing. Don't use these treads; get real solid lumber treads and you will be much happier. onmitch

Do you recommend glueing down the treads as well as putting nails in the back edge?

    Posée par: Anonyme
Contractors glue and nail from the top but if you can access from the bottom, use cabinet screws and screw all 4 corners from the bottom. Don't use screws too short, and definitely don't use ones that are too long.....

Is it better (or easier) to stain and varnish the treads and riser before installation or after?

    Posée par: Anonyme
Far better to stain and varnish before installation. also a good idea to get large pieces of paper and cut them to size so you can get the treads the right size for each one.

staining maple stair tread and riser kit

Has anyone bought and stained the Maple treads? I bought some but have not done anything with them yet. I have since read that Maple does not stain well and alot of conflicting ideas on how to stain it with good results. If anyone has done this can you give me the steps and products used and possible post a photo of your results. Thanks

Use the minwax stain, its oil based and flows on nice, gives you good time to wipe off. Most efficient to use a brush, then wipe with a rag. The minwax will not tend to lift the grain the way the varathane waterbased stains will. I used both on my steps using two colours, and the difference between the two products is quite remarkable. Also the waterbased stain dried much quicker and was much harder to get an even finish due to the drying as you did it.

Is it recommended to start the installation at the top stair, or bottom stair?

This question is regarding your Alexandria Simple Tred kit
    Posée par: Anonyme
I started at the top step and worked down, that way your not working on top of the newly installed stairs as you go.

is it ok to put riser onto treads ?

I have to cut steps length and width butstringers hieght is good.
    Posée par: Anonyme
it is recommended to put riser to sit on top of tread, rather than the tread but against the riser. The install instructions recommend the opposite, that that's because the actual tread is only 9" not 10 1/8 as advertised.

    are there taller rise sizes?

the riser in this package is only 7.5 inches tall. my stairs have a taller rise (8&3/4"). [yes, they're a touch steep but they're leading to the man-cave in an early 70's house] are there other sizes or will this kit only fit stairs that were perfect in the first place? alternatively, if could just buy the tread by itself i could make the risers myself from oak veneered hardwood 3/4" 4x8 sheets. but as it is now, it's a waste to buy 10 risers i won't use...
    Posée par: Anonyme
Unfortunaley all of our risers are the standard 7.5" If you just wanted to purchase the false tread and make your own riser you could look into special ordering from the pro desk the SP070 or SP071...that is the same tread you were looking at without the cost of the riser.
