Definitely follow the installation recommendation to pour concrete in the hole around the post. I used Quikrete fast setting concrete mix (red bag.) Just dig a big hole, pour some dry mixture around the base of the steel post, pour in some water and put the dirt back in the hole (no mixing necessary.) It will set quickly and be rock-solid the next day. Because the post is perfectly round, I put a large bolt in the part of the post submerged in concrete to keep it from rotating once the concrete sets.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Nice Post [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice design and clear instructions. I put the post together and installed it on the mailbox in about 15 minutes. It is a very clean look and hopefully durable for a Michigan Winter. I like the post and would recommend it. However, I gave it 4 stars because the post is smooth all the way to the footing. I needed to install a bolt through the base for the concrete to hang onto. I wasn't confident the smooth post would bind well with the concrete.

A few old reviews said that the joint between the two pieces of the post was wobbly and loose. I took a chance and tried it anyway. Those reviewers either had a defective part or they just weren't assembling it properly. I have no doubt that this post will have no problem withstanding the next 100 mph plus hurricane that comes our way. I will definitely buy this post again when the next careless driver mows down my mailbox.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Sturdy and Easy to Install [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was excited to get the Coolidge Mailbox Post to mount a new mailbox in front of my house. The post itself is a powder coated steel post that can hold a mailbox that weighs up to 13 pounds. The post is pretty heavy and therefore feels very sturdy. The flat mounting plate for the mailbox is pre-drilled for a very easy and seamless installation. There are included directions, however the installation is fairly self-explanatory. The post is sturdy, and holds my mailbox, and therefore I would recommend it to anyone looking for a sturdy post to mount their new mailbox.

I want to say that I see that Home Depot or the manufacturer is answering the reviews that say the set screws do not work buy saying they need to be very tight. You are missing what the reviewers are saying (because this is my issue as well) when you tighten the screws the fall right through the pole - they are not long enough for the set up. In order for my set screws to be tightened and actually touch the other side the go straight through the set up. In order to keep the 2 pieces together I cannot tighten them all the way....therefore it is wobbly and I will have to come up with something to stable the set up.... yesterday after reading the responses I went out and tried to tighten it as advised....I ended up having use a screwdriver to dig the middle connector out of the lower pole becasue it feel straight through into the hole in the ground. Does anyone at the factory actually try to put together this set up? With so many of us saying the same thing this cannot be an isolated issue

However, disappointed in the design of the post -- 2 pieces joined together by an internal connector and (in theory) locking together by set screws on each side. The set screws go all the way in and are in theory designed to expand the the steel connectors to lock each side. I say in theory because the outer post sleeve still would slide off the connector -- not practical to screw-in the set screw to the point it would expand a steel plate! On mine too, one of connector holes was badly drilled to the point that neither set screw would actually go in all the way. I discovered after I had already cemented the base. Very disappointed, do not recommend this post.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Poor construction, poor quality control Like others have said, you get what you pay for. The connector will not hold the two parts of the pole tightly no matter how tight the screws are. I ended up putting a brace in the ground next to the pole and connecting with zip ties, to keep the top from flopping around. It looks terrible but I figure this won't last the winter anyway and I'll have to redo the whole project. Poor quality control as there are 4 bolts for attaching the mailbox; each bolt needs a nut and two washers. One of the bolts had no washers with it (or loose in the bag). So I'll have to go to the store to get two washers since they weren't careful enough to include everything that is needed. Stay away from this piece of junk!

Rated 3 de 5 de par No More Wobble Installed by a previous owner who did a poor job. Like one reviewer said, my mailbox wobbled like a bobble head. Initially I though nothing of it. After the third time after a strong wind knocked it down, I decided to fix the problem. I initially was going to replace it, but did not feel inclined to dig, etc. Straight to the point, I bought two 3/8-16x2 Hex Tap bolts. Problem solved. No more wobble. If you just want a mailbox that is inexpensive and serves it purpose, choose this one.

does this post require concrete at the bottom? What is height?

does this post require concrete at the bottom? What is height?
Posée par: Egg
I used concrete on the bottom, not sure it would stay upright with out something similar. The overall length is 53 inches. I ended up digging down 16 inches and framing a pillar 5 inches above the ground to secure more of the post in concrete to make sure it stayed put. This gave me a height of 48 inches to the bottom of the mailbox and 10 inches of post in concrete.

How can you put the mail box in the ground 20" and have enough height left on the post to place the mailbox at 45" off the ground according to Postal Regulations? The post is only 53" and when you take 45" from 53" how do you hold it up?

Posée par: Moose
The regulated height requirement is 41"-45" from road surface according to USPS. Depending on your installation and location, this post may not work and it is good to check prior to purchasing as we try to accomodate most installations.
