Rated 1 de 5 de par A very disappointing and expensive project! I have a newly finished 3 bedroom basement suite approximately 2000+SF. We decided that the large common areas and bedrooms would remain concrete floor and stained due to high traffic and keep the costs of our project within budget. The goal was to use a light colour semi-transparent stain to achieve results similar to the product literature. VERY thorough cleaning and preparation steps to ensure best possible substrate. Stain was tested in an inconspicuous area per recommended application instructions. The "water stone" colour was much darker than advertised and had a blueish tint however we were happy with the outcome of the test area so proceeded to start the rest of the area. Very quickly realized that any rolling created an uneven coating thickness and roller marks were evident through-out. Home Depot recommended that a second or third coat may be necessary to eliminate the visual effect of the rolling. After a full second coat the finish was still not satisfactory. Roller marks and varying gloss between different cans of product were evident despite thorough mixing. Rather than risk a third coat (tripling my cost) we decided to go to a solid color stain since at this point the project was no longer semi-transparent anyway. The HD rep helped us to pick (PFC-68)silver gray No.800 which appeared to be a similar color to the original (STC-14) Water Stone color we chose. The colour was in fact much lighter and we were concerned that future wear and scratches would appear worse with a dark coloured under coat so we decided to try PFC-64 Storm instead. The problem was that storm requires the No.830 deep base solid stain and we were not willing to buy more product. HD color matched to the Storm as best they could. The final coat is a flat and consistent coat however it is so far from the appearance we were trying to achieve. I believe that the test area we did was too small to appreciate the impact of inconsistent thicknesses and roller marks in a larger area. I am extremely disappointed in the outcome and the additional costs we had to absorb. I don't believe the semi-transparent stain can achieve the published results using the recommended application techniques. Perhaps rag application for an intentional irregular result would be better. Some of the positive reviews I have read on this and other sites used rag applicator and multiple colors for a marbled appearance, this might have worked better. Ultimately all the time I spent on preparing the substrate was lost on a solid colour stain to salvage the project which is not what I wanted at all. The incompatibility of colors between semi-transparent and solid colour added cost and frustration to the project. There is no fixing or reversing what I did...I deeply regret using Behr semi-transparent stain for this project. Maybe better for a garage or commercial application, but not my finished basement.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Very disappointing - almost like a solid paint I used this product recently to stain my basement floor. Everything was all done in accordance with the directions on the Behr website, including using their etcher / cleaner to prep the surface Although the stain is labelled semi-transparent, it is actually more like a thinned-down solid paint.. Rather than enhancing the natural texture and imperfections in the concrete, it actually covers them up, making the final result look almost flat. The colour swatches on the brochure are also misleading, showing far more of the texture of the concrete through the stain than you actually see in the final result. In addition to this the colour reproduction on the swatches is quite different to the actual stain. I used Baked Clay, which looked fairly muted on the swatch. The actual colour however is a lot more saturated. I was very careful to follow Behr's guidelines, being cautious not to over-apply, and using a quality pump sprayer as recommended. The final results however are VERY disappointing.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Ok I'm sure this is a good product (I've used it in 5 jobs without much problem), BUT, Do NOT spot prime with this product if your walls are basic Builder's Flat paint. I just spot primed an entire house, and tried applying Behr Eggshell over top. The result: Shiny splotches over the ENTIRE house. I've now spent $300 in primer to prime the entire house top to bottom Twice, and so far, even after two coats of primer, those nasty little 4" x 4" spot primes for nail holes are still visible. Worst mistake of my painting life. I'm not saying the product is horrible, but I am WARNING you: I don't think this is good to use if your walls are flat.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Good for covering up dark paint I needed to paint and prime every single wall in every single room in my 1100 sq. ft. condo, as it was painted in several bright, garish colours. Everyone thought that I would need at least two coats of primer in addition to two coats of paint, but this stuff did the trick in one coat. It goes on very thick, like runny white glue, and I went through the pails more quickly than anticipated, but I think it saved me time and money in the end due to not needing second coats. It did have a tendency to clog up my roller, but that wasn't a problem as long as I made sure to wash it thoroughly at the end of a painting session. Overall, a pretty good product!

Rated 3 de 5 de par A LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY I AM A DIE HARD FAN OF BEHR PRODUCTS AND THIS REALLY DID HELP FOR OUR LARGE PROJECT. IT WAS EASY AND MUCH MORE COST EFFICIANT THAT BUYING SEVERAL SMALL CANS

I am installing new Saltillo Mexican tile to my complete home, and want a deeper colour than the tile is made.    Will this product give me the Colour I want, permanently.   And when it is installed by your recommended sprayer, will it be consistent.

    Posée par: Designer 1
Hi Designer 1, thank you for your question. Our Semi-Transparent Concrete Stain can be used on Saltillo Mexican tile to deepen your tile's natural color, and it can be applied using a pump sprayer and then backrolled with a pad applicator or roller to even the finish. However, since there is transparency in the stain, the finishing color will be affected by your tile's existing color. So, if you'd like more of a uniform solid look, our Solid Color Concrete Stain may be a better stain to use. Hope this info helps. Happy staining, and best of luck with your project! -Joanna

How many sq ft does a gallon cover? my new garage floor is 500 sq ft

    Posée par: Jeff
Hi Jeff, The Semi-Transparent Concrete Stain covers 250-400sq ft per gallon. For your garage that's 500sq ft, you'll need 3 gallons, using a little less than 2 gallons for the first coat and a little more than one for the second coat. You'll also need 2 gallons of the Bonding Primer to use before applying the stain. And be sure to follow all label instructions for prep and application for a successful project. Good luck! ~Takhari

You can paint over Behr No. 07501 with a latex paint, and it should adhere just fine to the surface.
