I wanted to wait until we started to get some good Arizona heat before I reviewed and we have already hit the 106F. I had a 12000 btu window unit that I was using to cool about 400SF. It was hideous and blocked the wonderful sunshine when not in use 8 months out of the year. I wanted to reclaim my window! I was a little leery of the portables and wondered how they handled water. Well no worries. After a week of running about 7 hours a day I went to drain the water and there was none. It blows ice cold and cools the space well. I have to actually lower the temp come evening because it gets to cold. My old window unit would never reach temperature set at 80 and would run continuously. This unit brings the space to 78 and then ... starts to cycle!! Awesome as I see that as less wear and tear on the machine and lower energy bill. The output vent is huge and really dispenses the air nicely. My window unit felt like someone was blowing on us through a straw but this feels like wind. Its a largish thing you will have to live with during use and is about the size of a bedroom nightstand but .. the beauty is, come fall I can roll it away put it in the box and put it away almost effortlessly and enjoy the sunshine with out that hideous window unit. Installation is bone simple and everything I needed was in the box. I was able to leave my window screen in place so from outside, unless you were looking, you don't see anything which makes my community manager very happy. I am very happy with the unit and at the price .. it raises it to THRILLED!

I've had it for for about a month running non stop the fan started sputtering two weeks in but still works. Not energy efficient but I wasn't expecting it to be. Overall a good purchase for the price.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Good but bad Cools the room off pretty well. But the duct that clips into the window panel keeps popping out every hour or so. Pretty annoying because then it's blowing hot air into the room

I bought this unit for my upstairs master bedroom after my central air conditioning went out. I was hesitant but to my surprise it keeps my bedroom and the bathroom quite cool. It also bleeds out into the hallway. Its a little loud but that does not bother it actually helps me sleep. Its a really good unit for the price.

What is the diameter of the vent hose?

Posée par: Nanie
The hose diameter on my unit is 4.5 inches. This comes with a panel that is adjustable to fit any double hung or slide-by window and the hose attaches to the panel. Works great.

Does it have to be vented outside?

Posée par: Tlw
Units like these need to be vented outside because they exhaust the air that is drawn in to cool the internal parts (compressor). That air gets heated by those parts and exhausted outside. You may be able to vent hot air other than outside, but it seems counterintuitive. Best to stick with a way to vent outside. (I am not an expert, this is just based on my own research as a customer).

I have a casement windows. Does this come with a sturdy installation kit?

Posée par: Lucy
I would expect it would as mine came with a 2-piece plastic adjustable window insert. I have used mine in both a double hung and slide by window.

any chance of this unit getting mold?

Posée par: jenny
The unit has a drain and plug at the bottom in the back. If it's very humid and if the unit is being used for many hours, then I would recommend trying to give it a drain. Once a week should be fine, but for more humid weather or more use try twice a week....just to make sure. There are also a couple of filters on the unit. Once a week or so, take them out and wash them down gently. My grand daughter is a bad asthmatic so I am always very cautious with regards to dust, mold and other such triggers. If you keep things clean on a regular basis there should be no problem. You may wish to contact the manufacturer to see if they know of any such issues. Or the other way is to check reviews on Google ;) I hope this information helps. Good luck. I do understand how scary a mold issue can be.

do I have to remove the vent in the winter time?

Posée par: john
Depending on your climate. I live in the far North and for heating efficiency I remove it, we had -35F this winter.

what is the minimum space needed to vent out window?

Posée par: jenny
A single slat (the slat with the whole for the vent hose) is 20 1/4 inches long and 6 1/2 inches wide (with a thickness - a lip - of 5/8 inches). So if you only use one slat - the slat to put the vent hose in - you will need 20.25 inches long and 6.5 inches wide. However if you have a way to just vet the hose, the hose opening is an oblong shape that is 9inches long and 3 1/4 inches wide. But remember that this is only the top end get of the vent hose. If you need more than 20.25 inches long, you will have to use the 2nd slat and it will have to be cut down. I hope this answers your question correctly.
