I had a horribly installed toilet (closet) flange because the horrible contractors hired by the wife-beating previous homeowner could not drill through the tile and backer board to install the flange to the subfloor. I used this bit and kept is wet. I drilled six holes clean holes and mounted the thing in under 30 minutes. I earlier used Black and Decker glass and tile arrow bits and they worked OK but were dead after four holes. This Bosch cost twice as much but is ready to do lots of work after those six holes. Keep it wet run it slow through glass or glaze, take it easy with the speed and pressure and it will help you do work you are proud of!! Want to hear about technique: I used two layers of masking tape in an X over each hole. Used a masonry bit (no drill) to lightly!! tap with a hammer to break the glaze and mark the spot. "You just tap and turn a little and tap and turn again a time or two." Then I mounted up this mighty Bosch bit and drill only, no hammer drill!!! I put a small circular modeling clay dam around a hole site, filled with water and went SLOW (can you run at variable speed? if not get some control and or a variable speed drill) and LOW PRESSURE. If you are making dust in the water you are making progress. After the entire head drills through the glaze on the face of the tile you can step the the RPM a touch. I keep the small dam full, I pull out occasionally stick the bit in a small cup of water and let the water in the dam run into the hole. Slow and steady keeps the bit cool; water occasionally. If you cannot use a dam (drilling into a vertical wall) just use a wash bottle or a drip bottle to keep it wet and/or wet the bit every 30 minutes. After the hole was through the tile, I used a conventional masonry bit to drill through the Cement.fiberglass backer board and used the Simpson 4 inch stainless screws (thanks Home Depot) to secure themselves into the subfloor. This mounting will last until the room is renovated or until the building just rots. Built to last by a person who cares. There is the false pride of a "professional" who is happy to do it quick and who cares if it falls apart in 5 years, and the pride of a professional or a amateur (did you know that meant lover) who knows how to do it right and does so because they know that they should.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Useless on Porcelain I purchased this 3/16 bit a day ago to drill porcelain tiles. Never managed to complete a single hole before the bit wore out.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Drill bit works great, reasonably priced, but only for a few times. Worked like a charm for about 5 uses in building a new tiled bathroom, then it became dull. It is priced accordingly.
