Rated 5 de 5 de par Excellent. Big improvements over older models Really impressed with this little guy. Very accurate, and visible over long distances, particularly at twilight. I could generally repeat the same measurement repeatedly, which I can't say about every measuring device I've tried. I was able to get a 2 year old Bosch DLM130 to compare with the GLM40. The GLM40 has many improvements, including: 1. easier to read screen - clear plastic cover over LED protects and makes the screen very readable 2. backlight on the screen makes it readable in the dark. 3. two AAA batteries rather than four 4.display of 3 most recent measurements Both devices also had some of the same features, including: 1. Camera tripod attachment 2. measure from front or back of device 3. Change meter to feet (decimal and fraction for each.)

Rated 5 de 5 de par Very precise, easy to use [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Let's cut to the chase - the million dollar question is, "How accurate is it?" The answer: VERY accurate. After it arrived I went around the house shooting it at random things at random distances, then used a tape measure to check it's accuracy. I was fully expecting some margin of error, but it was spot on every time. I now feel very confident in it's accuracy and use this in place of a tape measure every chance I get. It is SO much easier, particularly at distances of 10 feet or more, to just point a laser and get an instant reading. Highly recommended!

Rated 2 de 5 de par Didn't "do it" for me... Yes, it wonderful because it's high quality, and it measures stuff REALLY accurately. But here is why I returned it: - the display is only visible if you hold it at an angle. It's nearly blank if you look straight at it. - the characters on the display are a good size, but the fractions (of inches) are uselessly small. - it can't be set it to simply read out in inches. - it doesn't have a built-in level. After trying it I realized that would be a REALLY handy feature! - the "measure" button is so stiff it's hard to operate whilst keeping the laser beam on-target. I bought the GLM-50C model. It was $50 more expensive, but for me it does everything the GLM 40X didn't do. It is seriously sweet! The difference is night and day.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Quick Way to Size Up a Room This tool is a quick way to size up a room. No more frustration with a tape measure bending when you measure by your self. Also able to measure in wall cavities without the tape measure getting stuck. It has four modes: 1. Linear, just like a tape measure, press a button and record the distance. 2. Continuous, measures the distance every .5 seconds 3. Area, take two measurements to find the area of a room or wall. 4. Volume, take three measurements to find the volume of a room. The only negatives about this tool is that the measurements are in decimal instead of fractions and that it fits really tightly in the included case.

Rated 5 de 5 de par This product works great! I purchased this online and picked it up at the store. The whole experience was great. From ordering to being notified it was ready, the same day! I needed it for the next day. It is great for measuring larger areas. Just a push of the button. It does more than I need but it seems to be accurate every time. I design garages, closets, etc. and its much better than trying to use a tape measure in a large garage. When you start, it places a red dot on the wall you are measuring, push the button again and it gives you the measurement. It even stores measurements if you are doing more than one wall. It also can figure area's but that is something I won't need. I thought I lost it after the first week, it turned out I had left it at a clients. I was thrilled to find it again. In the meantime, I measured a garage with a tape measure and ended up pulling it out too far and broke it. It's my favorite new toy!

Rated 5 de 5 de par Easy, fast and accurate! I bought the GLM 40X for measuring baseboards and other trim work for my home. Since I'm over 65 I needed something that was easy, fast and accurate especially since my knees don't last long on the floor anymore. I have found that this tool is great and exactly what I wanted/needed but you don't have to be over 65 to get the great benefits from this tool.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Generally, it's a good unit for the price point I design residential remodels, additions and new homes for a living and these tools are a key element for efficient work getting existing structures measured to begin design work. We generally like to be as perfect as possible and a trustworthy laser measurer unit is key. I have used L**CA units ranging from $200-$400 and once they were stolen, purchased a known big box competitor store tool brand unit for less than $80. To compare, this unit is the best between the two levels of units I have extensive experience with. My current big box competitor unit works but is a bit TOO glitchy popping errors too often but stores up to 20 lengths in memory where the Bosch only holds what is on screen being 2 or 3 lengths. The Bosch worked well right out of the box and did not pop any errors up to this point where my other current unit was doing it always when turned on...so for that, this Bosch unit is a low stress, accurate unit that I can trust for around $100. I did do a bit of research on this unit and found it not to be on Bosh's site nor available anywhere else except HomeDepot...something which struck me as odd unless it's a testbed unit. On the other end of the comparison spectrum, you cannot compare it to the more expensive units out there except that it is accurate with no errors...they have far more features and measure farther distance but do you need it?!!...that's the question you must ask yourself. Generally, this unit will serve me well...though, it would be nice to have a bit of memory to snap around a room quick and then reference the dims in memory to speed the process up.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Excellent laser [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This laser doesn't only measure the distance accurately (even shows fractions up to 1/16"), but it also can calculate the area or the volume, which is very helpful. The maximum distance of 140 feet / 42 meters should be enough for most projects. It shows the last three measurements in the display, has a back lit display and is light weight, yet seems rugged. It comes with a small pouch to carry the device on your belt.

Posée par: brad
Yes/No answer, yes you can use it outdoors. However, depending on the amount of ambient light, it may be difficult to see if you are hitting your target reference point. They give you stick on targets that are supposed to help. I haven’t use these targets since I really don’t want to mark something all the time and have to go back to remove it (measuring the distance to the roof of a 3 story warehouse). I’ve had older laser measuring devices that put out a larger circle, this one is very small and difficult to see. Unless it is in a shadow, the target is impossible to find in bright sunlight.

The website says this is accurate to 1/16th, yet it will display 32nds. Why is that if it's only accurate to 1/16th? It's a little annoying if the reading is bouncing back and forth between 16ths and 32nds. I don't need this kind off accuracy. Is there a way to change this to read only to the nearest 16th, or even 8th?
Posée par: Toolaphile
This sounds like strictly an academic question. I wouldn't trust a tape measure for a 1/32 of an inch. I do not know of a way of changing the accuracy limit.

Press and hold the "FUNC" button (center). The display will change slightly with the unit of measure displayed on mid display on right. Use the "+" and"-" buttons to cycle through the options and stop on what you want. Then press the red triangular button (just below the display) to lock in your unit of measure selection.

Could you use this to measure the footage left in a storage silo, instead of a drop tape . As in shoot the beam from the top of silo , down to material level ?
Posée par: JB
I doubt so because the laser beam needs something to reflect off of.

Posée par: vic
There is no ability for the end user to recalibrate this device. Bosch states the accuracy to +/- 1/16th inch as shipped. I haven't verified the accuracy though. The device provides measurements down to 1/32ths.
