Rated 3 de 5 de par Spend the extra money for a plug aerator!! I own Bowman Lawn Care and thought that this would be a good aerator but i was wrong! This is a nice well built product (after you spend 2 hours putting it together) but only puts small 1 inch deep slits in the ground. (I had the maximum 100 pounds of weight on it). Its not very effective at aerating. I returned this aerator and spent an extra $40 and got a plug aerator. The plug aerator actually made 3/4 inch wide, 3 inch deep holes in lawn which actually aerate the lawn and work. I would only use this for a small lawn that doesn't have that much of a aeration problem.

Rated 5 de 5 de par great value for the money Yard was in neglect for years, small yard, frony and rear. I have COPD so cant push mower anymore, having bought tracter enabled me to buy and use aerater. Did 50x50 front yard for 2 hours, fertilizer and limed it. After 3 weeks yard looks better than it ever has and have not overseeded it yet. Planning to overseed and aerate same way again. When turning around towed it swlowly over concrete and blacktop with no damage to hard surfaces or the tool. Very difficult, impossible to back it up. It turns out one way or the other. Tried many times, not saying I wont continue to try I am very satisfied

Rated 4 de 5 de par Works well after part replacement With cement blocks for weight, this tool works well - better than a similar corer that just rides over hard ground instead of penetrating. Tines are very sharp and thin, so holes are small. Worst feature is the lift lever, which just trails behind the unit almost on the ground when in down position. This makes backing up an issue on hilly ground - the lever digs in. Mine came with the main axle retaining bolt hole drilled off center - could not use bolt to install. Cobbed together with cotter pin which worked fine for first use. Called Brinley 800 number and no questions asked replacement was shipped fairly quickly.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Good tool for the yard This aerator is a great yard tool and has saved me a tremendous amount of time. The only drawback was that either my yard was too hard for the spikes because I had to add some weight for the spikes to go deeper than about 3/4 of an inch. Easy fix and still holds up to my rocky yard.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Okay with small modification - Needs a better tow bar Reviews are right about the tow bar being lightweight and bending easy. If the aerator's tire finds a pot hole in the yard while towing it around or just from normal use with additional weight on it so it will work well - it will bend. Easy fix is to weld a piece of angle iron along the side of the tow bar to strengthen it before assembly. Otherwise, machine works great does what it is suppose to do and price is okay for what you get. Rated overall average and not durable because of tow bar issue. Assembly is easy and straight forward.

Rated 3 de 5 de par The upper pan and the axle plates are made of relatively heavy steel however there are no bearing... The upper pan and the axle plates are made of relatively heavy steel however there are no bearing bosses to support the axle and the wheels hubs are just plastic. The spikes are galvanized which is good but even withe 75 lbs. of weight in the weight tray, they did not penetrate the ground very deep. I purchased this to tow behind a zero turn mower and that did not work. The hookup on the mower is to low and I could not get the hitch to engage because of the extreme angle from the difference in heights. If you are towing this thing behind a higher garden tractor and only using it once or twice a year, it will probably be fine but for more frequent use, I would go with a better built unit.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Worth the reasonable price for what you get. It's really easy to assemble if you get your son to do it. Seems to penetrate the soil well if you add several cinderblocks to the tray provided. (Need to secure blocks with bungee cords.) Hard to back up. May be the operator's fault but maybe the hitch bar is too short. It's a real pain in the neck to raise and lower the spikes on/off the ground to/from the wheels...have to get off my mower to do it. For the money I'm satisfied with this product.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Great for price! It takes a little patience and time to get it together correctly but if you can control your temper it shouldn't take too long. Works like a charm. Had my whole yard aerated in no time. Doesn't go in reverse well at all so make sure you can continue driving forward or you will need to get off and unhitch to avoid damages. Easily holds two cinder blocks for weight, four if you properly tie them down. Overall I would recommend this product.

Can you use this as a dethatcher by adjusting the spike depth or is it preset to penetrate the soil?

Posée par: yardnut
It is a preset depth of about 1.5". If you want any deeper you would need to remove the wheels

Can I tow this with a Troy Bilt tbr30 rear mount 10hp lawn mower

Posée par: Jd
Yes, you can tow this. This aerator moves very easy. But... it depends on how hard your soil is. Weight has to be added on top of the aerator to have enough force to push the spikes into the ground. I don't believe the weight of the aerator by itself would be enough to force the spikes into the ground. I believe the instructions said you could put a maximum of 65 pounds on top of the aerator. 65 pound gives a good amount of force to push the spikes into the ground. It also make the aerator harder to pull. I can't answer if a 10hp tractor could pull it fully loaded or not, but I would guess it would.

Would this break up horse manure

Posée par: Sharon
Wow, good question. Not sure how to answer this! The spaces between the spikes is 4 or 5 inches so I would think that some would pass between the spikes. They are sharp enough to break it up if it hits them bit some may pass between. Probably take several passes to do a good job.

Are the wheels supposed to freely rotate or are they stationary?

Posée par: Grh
The wheels rotate freely. Unless, they are not installed properly. GREAT piece of equipment. I use 2 cement 8 x 16 concrete blocks for weight and it aeriates to the correct depth in our Central Florida soil. I also use it after planting bermuda seed in the spring for my field and annual rye grass in the fall.
