Rated 4 de 5 de par Good soil-like compost Texture: similar to a nice soil with occasional twig/stick Color: dark brown Smell: mild manure smell So far I haven't noticed any bits of plastic or other foreign bits. Used to top dress lawn. Also tried Scotts Premium Garden Soil (28L bag). I'd say they were very similar with this compost being moister. Purchased in Calgary, 2020.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Not suitable for top dressing - rocks Not allowed to edit my review so signed up with another account. Used this to top dress my lawn. Texture: soil + handful of rocks and wood per bag Smell: like soil, no manure smell at all Color: darn brown Lawn growth: not much better than using no product Was unhappy to see rocks and wood pieces after the first rain. Spent a fair amount of time pulling them out. Over 8 bags, the largest rock was 1 inch and largest wood piece was 2 inches. I ran an experiment, top dressing parts of the lawn with a) this product, b) Scotts Premium Garden Soil, c) nothing. Lawn with Scotts soil is growing faster and the darker green. After a (rainy) week I could see the difference looking down from the 2nd story. After a month, a casual observer can notice the difference from the street. This product, CIL, is hardly better than the control. The nutrient needs of your lawn my differ and CIL may be a better match. Even if true, I'd have a hard to time recommending CIL unless you were willing to sift out the rocks and woods. The Scotts product is also cheaper and lighter (which honestly thought were indicators of inferior product).

Rated 5 de 5 de par Good quality! I don’t usually use compost manure just cause is the bad smell but I saw this stuff on sale (at Lowe’s) so thought I would pick some up and get the 10% discount at HD (they’re good that way). But at first glance the quality looks real good, it looks like regular peat soil Not sure how good it works yet but I will give an update at the end of the season or maybe the future sometime. .

What is the ideal temperature to be using this compost?  What is the difference between composted manure and cattle compost? Does compost need to be mixed with black earth soil when applying on the ground for growing grass seeds?

Posée par: vee87
Hello vee87, There is no real concern with temperature this time of the year. The cattle compost contains cattle manure while the composted manure is a blend of various animal manures. Please visit our website @www.cillawnandgarden.com for full instructions on using our compost products when applying grass seed. thank you

Is compost basically farm animal manure?

Posée par: vee87
Composted means decomposed, and manure is indeed animal poop. The difference is that when manure is too fresh, it can still contain viable seeds (of weeds/crops), which then run the risk of germinating in your garden/lawn. However, when manure is properly composted, it breaks down those seeds, and should not introduce unwanted plants to your garden. Hope this helps!

When is the best time to apply this product and how long after that can I plant?

Posée par: Anonyme
Hello David, How to use Evergreens, trees and shrubs In the spring or fall, apply at the rate of 2 kg per 1 m2 (10 sq. ft.) around each tree or shrub and mix into the top 5 cm (2 in) of soil. For new plantings, mix 1 part of composted manure with 3 parts of soil, and water well. Flower beds and vegetable gardens Before planting, spread 15 kg per 8 m2 (86 sq. ft.) and rake into the top 5 cm (2 in) of soil. Apply again before hot weather at the same rate, as an ideal mulch and plant food for vigorous summer growth. New lawns When preparing the seed bed, spread 15 kg per 15 m2 (161 sq. ft.), rake and mix into the top 2 cm (0.75 in) of soil before sowing grass seed. Established lawns Apply at the rate of 15 kg per 30 m2 (323 sq. ft.), in early spring and again in the fall. Do not apply near bodies of water, if heavy rain is expected, to frozen ground or at higher application rates than recommended on the label. Water lightly after fertilization. When used on established lawns, it is recommended that this product be used based on a soil analysis test. 5. Use as part of a complete fertilizer program. https://www.cillawnandgarden.com/en/products/cil-composted-manure
