Rated 2 de 5 de par I own over 30 tools this one I can’t recomend! I am a huge Milwaukee tool fan, I own over 30 m18-m12 tools, but this 2980-20 is the first Milwaukee tool in 4-5yrs I can not recommend. It over heats battery’s (not deplete) quickly a few minutes of use. I tried a range of battery’s 5.0-12.0 and everyone in between! I decided to stop using it in the middle of the job (medium duty metal grinding with a 6” stone) and finished with my fuel 5” and 7-9” grinder. When it is working for a few minutes it’s surely more powerfull than my 5” however you can’t get much work done with this 6” grinder due to you run out of battery’s .

Rated 4 de 5 de par Convenience at it's best I originally purchased this angle grinder for field use to make setup and cleanup a little simpler. Now that I've gotten used to the convenience of this grinder, I end up using it in the shop for small to medium jobs because uncoiling and coiling up extension cords is such a pain (yes I'm spoiled). I use this grinder with the medium sized batteries, good quality abrasives, and with medium to light tool loading, it's worth the time savings. If you're looking for something to put under heavy load, you'll probably want to use the 12 amp hour battery however at that point, the battery gets a bit ridiculous in comparison to the size of the grinder.

Rated 4 de 5 de par This changed my opinion of cordless grinders This 6" angle grinder is great. I have gotten a fair share of use out of it over the past month I have owned it. It has plenty of power, it has not stalled yet even when I have been using it for heavy stock removal. The battery life isn't what I was hoping it to be with an 8ah battery, but it is a cordless grinder. There are two things I would change about it. One would be adding a hole to the top of the gearbox so that the handle could be threaded on there, I had a grinder that had 3 handle locations once and it was a game-changer for me. The next would be upping the rpms, it seems to me that this grinder spins a noticeably slower than other 6 inch 120v grinders I have used.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Owner-Tool is good but overheats batteries. I purchased this to grind brackets off a truck axle. The grinder feels well built and works well when it's working. I did find however that the batteries would stop working after 3-5 minutes of steady use. Lights on the batteries would start blinking and no longer work. I purchased three 5.0 batteries at the same time and they all did they same thing. After letting them sit for an hour or so they would start working again, but would only have 1-2 bars of power left. I realize this tool uses a lot of amperage, but I was very disappointed in the run time. I expected more out of a top dollar Milwaukee. I had to go buy a corded grinder to finish the job.

There is NO 6" cutting wheel guard (Type 1). I called Milwaukee customer service and confirmed that they don't have one for this. They expect you to put a 6" cutting wheel on a grinder with just a type 27 guard and violate OSHA rules. What happened to being all about the professionals. This is not what I expected from Milwaukee. If you plan to cut metal buy the 4.5/5" or the 7/9" model as there is a type 1 guard available for these.

Rated 4 de 5 de par More battery life please. Alright, let's get the obvious out of the way. The tool is easily better than I expected. I love the power and speed + it feels great. Everyone in the shop loves not lugging air lines everywhere. But the largest battery I have is an 8 amp/hour and I find myself making two trips to the charger on longer work days. I can't deny the value and quality you get from this tool but until I can get a 12 a/h battery it looks like I'm just going to have to get used to stopping by the charger.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Hefty, Versatile, Capable This is a hefty cordless, much more substantial than earlier models. The benefits are a capable grinder that manages vibration and freedom from the cord (tether). This allows more worksite flexibility for cutoffs and cleanup. It does a corded grinder's job, but not for hours at a pop. That's just the trade-off. For construction work, it is worth it. A metal worker might feel the battery life is more of a constraint. My biggest complaint is actually the availability of a range of 6" discs. 4-1/2" discs work fine, but the 9,000 rpm spin is designed for the larger discs. Altogether, this a versatile tool in my workshop.

Posée par: Dale
Hi Dale! You can use any M18 battery on any M18 product. However, you will typically get a longer run time with a larger battery.

I'm thinking of getting this and using the more common 4-1//2 wheels. And using the 6 when I need deep cuts. Does this model use more battery when doing ordinary grinding or just when heavy on the metal. Do you really need the 4-1/2 shield, if so why don't they include it since it claims 4-1/2 /6in?
Posée par: telectool
The 6" shield will work with the 4.5" but may limit some of the available grinding wheel. You will probably not notice the battery use with the 4.5 wheel. I recommend using at least a 5.0 battery for reliability. Note there is not a 6" cutting guard available for this model if that is your intended use. I went with the 7/9" for this reason.

Where do I get the 4 1/2 guard so I can use smaller wheels?

The manual says to use the appropriate size guard but you can't find the things anywhere to buy.
Posée par: Tyson
Based on a June 7, 2019 review, the 4-1/2" guard product number is 43-54-1200.... So frustrating that I have to look at tool reviews to find a part number for a safety accessory. Cheers

Does this one function as well as a corded grinder?

Posée par: MarburyPlumbing
Yes, but make sure your using a 5 or 6 amp battery not because of any issues with power but because it will last longer.

Can I use this grinder for wet grinding concrete with a diamond cup wheel rated for wet grinding?

Posée par: ACDC
As long as the disc is rated for the type of work you are intending to complete, and the disc is rated at or above the RPMs listed on the tools name plate (9000 RPMS).

Is this a variable speed grinder or not? In 2 places it says it is & in another place it says it is not. The question has been asked but the answer didn't help.
