Rated 1 de 5 de par Awful. Save yourself doing the job twice and get any other option So I used this product for 3 rooms of my house last year. One I have redone, the others are on my to do list. It does not stick well to the tiles or backerboard. I did not use the admix, which it claims "for higher bond strengths". I honestly believe they should rephrase it, "for ANY bond strength use the admix". The best thing I can say about this product, is that due to its weak bond strength, it makes tearing it out very easy. Obviously because you are going to replace it later with a better product. All the rooms I redid using other products have lasted with no problems. So I have a high level of confidence that the problem was using this.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Good Product with Ditra Used to install Ditra and Porcelain Tile on concrete as per Schluter-Ditra Installation Handbook 2014. Works great! Meets ANSI A118.1 which is what the Handbook calls for (Page 13). The bag states to mix with 6 quarts of water if not using the additive (the additive actually changes the spec to ANSI A118.4). 6 quarts of water is fine for laying the tile; it is not for the Ditra. Schluter Ditra requires the unmodified thin set to be "mixed to a fairly fluid consistency, but still able to hold a notch (page 24 of Handbook)" This is important! On a humid day it will take 6 1/4 quarts of water. If you do not mix it this way, you will never be able to get it to stick to the back of the Ditra (fleece webbing).

Rated 1 de 5 de par Look elsewhere if this is for a Schluter project that requires unmodified thinset First of all, I am not commenting on the quality of this when used with an admixture. ONLY when using it as-is, which is what you should be doing with certain projects involving certain Schluter products. I really can't believe this is all Home Depot carries. If you're doing a Schluter project that requires unmodified thinset (without admixture) look elsewhere. This is a low-quality thinset for such projects. Find yourself some Laticrete 317, Megabond, Pro-Spec PermaSet, TEC Full Set Plus, or Schluter's own Ditra Set. If someone from Home Depot sees this, please get one of these other brands!

It is too sandy and difficult to work with compared to Versabond and other manufacturers' dry-set products. I used it to attach Kerdi membrane over drywall for a custom shower and I had to mix it fairly loose and work fast to get acceptable results. I had previously used Versabond with Kerdi on another shower with MUCH better results, even thought this technically voided Schluter's warranty for the Kerdi installation. My advice is to get something else if it is available, or use Versabond and wait a few extra days for it to cure properly. Home Depot should be embarrassed that this is the only dry-set mortar that they stock.

Rated 4 de 5 de par It works! I never write reviews but I read so much hate on this product and I agonized over whether or not to use it, I wanted to give my opinion for others in the same boat. I need unmodified thin set to install Ditra underlayment and then to set my travertine on top of it. I found 2 websites saying this was the worst unmodified thin set to use but I had no choice... this is all I had access to without special ordering something. Everything went great! In fact I've completed both a small bath floor (36 sq. ft.) and a basement floor (400 sq. ft.) with stuff and no problems at all.

If using this product, I HIGHLY recommend using the latex additive, in addition to water, when mixing. There are some thin set mortars that have the additive already in it (just add water), but I prefer to add it myself. By adding myself, I can adjust the mix and workability of the mortar to suit my preferences with each specific job (whether on tile board, concrete slab, hot or cooler weather, etc.). Easy to use. After spreading on the floor, I also use it to spread on the back of each tile as I am laying to ensure total adhesion. I definitely recommend this product and continue to use on a frequent basis for my projects.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Works as advertised. Know your purpose. Thin set/mortar comes in different qualities. Know what your purpose is. Use the right product. I saw the review rating this poorly and had to counter. Complaining that this product, probably using no admixture on top of that, would not stick his new tile on top of other tile? Really? That is NOT what this stuff is for. If you use this for what it is for, it will work as advertised. If you add some latex bonding liquid, you can do a little more. Know your product and your use and this will work just fine! DO NOT think spending $6 for this to do the job of something that needs a $16 product will magically work. It won't. If you are putting tile on a rough concrete floor, on meshed floorboard/plywood, it will work fine. If you are doing tile on tile, you better use something stronger and more bonding! You might try mastic in that case. But you should rough up your base tile first if it has a smooth surface. Good luck!

Rated 5 de 5 de par Female DIYer and Schluter Systems Kerdi Waterproofing membrane Remodeling a bathroom for a fella that's clueless and can't read directions. Contractors told him $15,000 for his bathroom remodel. I'm doing the entire thing for under $4,000 and that includes all new plumbing including the poo pipe, new vanity and hardware, and I had to re-stud the walls. I used Kerdi waterproofing membrane for the shower and it specifically calls for NON-MODIFIED Thin-Set Mortar. I ONLY used this mortar on the Kerdi and guess what, no issues. Grab onto the handle of the soap dish and it doesn't even budge. I wouldn't use this product on the drywall, I used Versabond for that. Read the directions and understand the application. Kerdi calls for non-modified mortar.

Can i set tis mortar on wood and then put the tile?

Posée par: Chris
This produce does not work for bonding tile to plywood or OSB. You would need to put down cement or backer board first.

Can I use over concrete floor in basement? Tiles size is: 8” by 36”.

Posée par: Tom
Yes. This product is suitable for direct contact with concrete floors. I recommend adding the latex admixture along with water. The admixture adds considerable adhesion properties to the thinset mortar. It is sold at Home Depot (inexpensive) in a two gallon container. Good luck with your project.

Can i used this on sheetrock for kitchen backsplash for subway tile?

Posée par: Stx
I'm no expert but I wouldn't use this product for wall tile. Instead I've used a bucket of premixed tile adhesive from home Depot. I hope this helps.

Can this be used on top of shower pan liner

Can this be used on top of shower pan liner
Posée par: Bumblebee
Could it? I suppose. But I know there are much better products out there for this. This is the standard thinset and works fine for medium and large sized format wall and floor tile. But with the ridgidity that is needed in a mud shower pan, there is another line of Modified thinset, by this same Mfr, that may be better. Again, someone might say different and it’s more of a touchy subject when you get into shower pans and question the structural ability of thinset. So it may be best, just to use the best for your scenario and format. Long and short; you could probably get away with using this and nothing catastrophic would happen. But if you’re weighing out options to save money, always use the option that you know or that you learn will ensure you aren’t ripping out and redoing a job. I say use the best known mortar for a shower pan, like versa bold custom modified, mapei-ultra flex or laticrete makes some thick bed and fortified products that combined with a red guard type product would put your mind at ease. A few dollars more is worth it! Good luck

I would suggest using a modified thinset in that application. Will provide some flexibility.
