Rated 5 de 5 de par A must for appliances For any appliance that plugs into a regular 3-prong 120v household outlet, I recommend this. Even things that are installed like a dishwasher, over-the-range microwave, or built-in cooktop that plugs into 120v! It beeps when the surge protection has done it's job, so even if it is inside cabinets where you can otherwise forget about it, you'll still know when you need to replace it. All modern appliances have some sort of electronics in them, and if something is going to fail it will be the electronics. This is a good, inexpensive way to protect your fancy new fridge, touch-button dishwasher, and even gas appliances that still plug into a 120v outlet.

Unit I bought had a little slip of paper tucked into the instructions in the packaging saying it will not protect anything that is closer than a 30 foot wire run from the circuit breaker box, even though it will look like it is working properly. I bought this unit to protect my new garage door opener, the packaging even suggests it for garage door openers. Yet I doubt there is 30 feet of wire between the outlet for my garage door opener and the circuit breaker box. Therefore I will find one that does not have this limitation and wanted to give everyone else a heads up about this limitation. Do not buy this if the device you want to protect is 30 feet or less from your circuit breaker box.

Rated 5 de 5 de par If you have power surges, this is a must have... I bought this for my frig, Microwave, Deep freezer, washing machine & dryer. My house gets surged yearly and the first time I had to replace all of my appliances, the second and third time the house got surged I only had to replace the surge protectors (which is a lot cheaper than buying new appliances).

Rated 5 de 5 de par A++++++++ We got this to prevent our fridges from blowing out during power surges. Seems to work, and such a great price compared to similar 1000 joule units.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Didn't trust this product. Purchased this surge outlet based on the price and specs. After plugging my new refrigerator into the product, my refrigerator began to make a vigorous clicking noise. Sounded like the relay switch was trying to turn on the condenser. It was quickly evident the refrigerator was struggling. I immediately unplugged the surge outlet and plugged my refrigerator directly into the wall, problem solved. I don’t trust this product.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Lights on = OK / Light colors do not matter.... Two years ago I bought two of these surge protectors from Home Depot. Today I bought a third one of this same model (YLCT-29) surge protector. The earlier two lights serve the same purpose. That is, both lights being on indicate: - Outlet is "Grounded". - Device plugged into the surge protector is "Protected". But in the later surge protector the "Grounded" light was green. And in the earlier protectors the "Grounded" light is red. The only Con for these protectors is the case is so large that it can cover adjacent AC outlets.

After less than 3 months of use the iPad charger died. I attributed this to the charger being a few years old so I replaced the charger with a brand new one from Apple. Three days later the new charger died as well. The Defiant "protector" killed both chargers...hardly what I'd call protection. I strongly recommend against buying this Defiant product. It destroyed the devices I bought it to protect! Avoid costly mistakes...don't buy one.

Are you able to "reset" this outlet after an electric surge (similar to a GFCI outlet) or does it...

Posée par: Andy
No, there is no reset button.

about these 2 lights

Posée par: Fedora339
If you read the Use and Care Guide it only says that if the LED light is OFF it is bad and needs to be replaced. The color of the light should not matter. Copied from the guide. : If the “Protected” indicator light goes out, it means that the built-in surge protection has been sacrificed to protect your equipment and is no longer functioning. If the grounded LED light is off it says this in the Guide. : If the “Grounded” indicator light is not on, contact a qualified electrician to properly ground the outlet before using it with your surge protector. Connecting your surge protector to an improperly grounded outlet will void all Defiant warranties.

Do you need to replace after a power failure

Posée par: Ray
Most people understand a power failure to simply be the loss of electrical power. Where power has been lost and then restored, this device should not normally need to be replaced. However, situations that cause the loss of electrical power can often result in hazardous voltages that this device is designed to protect. Once electrical power has been restored at the electrical outlet that this device is plugged into, if either of the two or both of the indicator lights on the unit are out or it is making a high-pitched sound, it has likely exhausted its ability to protect attached equipment and should be replaced. The electronic circuitry in this device absorbs high voltages that can be damaging to attached equipment. Once the circuitry has absorbed all the energy it can, the surge protector may trip the circuit breaker of the outlet it is plugged into or the surge protector may no longer power equipment plugged into it. After a power failure, if your equipment still works when plugged directly into the electrical outlet, but does not work when plugged into the surge protector, the surge protector has sacrificed its self to protect the attached equipment.

If the electricity fails, when it comes back; will the refrigerator have some time before it start?

Posée par: pat
This device does not provide a time delay upon power restoration. It however would provide voltage spike protection that might occur with a power surge when power was restored. While a time delay provides desirable protection for refrigeration compressor motors, the compressor motor its self has overload protection in addition to any protection or delay that might be built into the refrigerator control board (circuit board). Overload protection built into the compressor motor is sufficient to protect the motor when electric power has been off for a short time.

If only the protector light goes on but not the ground light should I be concern?

Posée par: Concern
If the ground indicator light does not illuminate, the surge protector will not provide full protection. The ground is necessary to shut high surge voltages away from the protected equipment from both the line and neutral circuits. Most likely there is no ground connection in the electrical outlet the surge protector is plugged into. Less likely is the surge protector is failed causing the ground indicator not to illuminate. Try plugging the surge protector into another outlet. An outlet with a known working ground and if the ground indicator light comes on, then the surge protector is working properly. Older homes were not required ground wiring. However grounded electrical outlets sometimes get installed where no ground wire is present in these homes. You may need an electrician to investigate your wiring for an outlet not having a ground. The ground wiring, if present, may not be connected somewhere between the outlet and electrical panel. Or the electrician could install a new circuit. Which is often done on older two-wire homes without ground conductors.
