Rated 5 de 5 de par Why Not? My old set of batteries were down to fail to retain the charge mode because I use them for some pretty tough jobs on the east Texas farm, like drilling 3/8" holes through 6" plus fence posts. The reciprocating saw will most times eat up a battery before you are done. I'd really like to "upgrade" to the new lithium batteries, but that would be at least twice as expensive. If I were a professional, I'd do it in a heartbeat. But for my purposes, two of these batteries seldom make me sit and drink (choose your favorite beverage) while they recharge. And my old set lasted longer than four years. Don't forget to take your old batteries to HD for recycling.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Waste of money, will not hold a charge or recharge I have several of these and the smaller 18V batteries that are gently and rarely used. I bought six a little over two years ago when the other four I had were going bad. I was told the shelf life was up to 5 years or so. I was going to switch to lithium but all my Dewalt tools use these so I stuck with these. Out of the six only one battery will charge and hold a charge. One other charges but dies quickly and the four remaining will not charge at all. I have a little Rockwell impact driver that I haven’t charged in almost 3 years that’s sitting in my tool box for small tasks that still had charge enough to do the task I intended for my Dewalt driver. Dewalt tools are great but the batteries are poor. I need to see if Duracell makes batteries for these tools.

Rated 2 de 5 de par Newer batteries don’t last Bought a pair of these almost 3 years ago and both are worthless now. We have a pair of the same that are 5 years old and they still work great. Just like all other companies, products are made to poorer standards and sadly, the consumer has developed a tolerance for substandard quality.

Rated 5 de 5 de par VERIFY THAT YOUR CHARGER WORKS!!!! I remember years ago buying dewalt 18v batteries. So i went out and bought two more recently and before i took them out the pack, i took my old batteries to work. Work just bought a new 18v Dewalt combo pack. I asked one of my guys to charge up my batteries.. They did took it home and the works fine. so i going to return the dual pack of batteries, and the told me to just keep them. i found out that my charger was defective, I owned that 18v $ piece combo pack for years and NEVER EVER had my charger replaced. "BEFORE YOU BAY BATTERIES, VERIFY THAT YOUR CHARGER WORKS."

Rated 1 de 5 de par Corroded metal prongs We have and love Dewalt tools, unfortunately the new battery packs we bought around Christmas time are already corroded. Our old battery packs lasted 10 years. Very disappointed in this product.

will this charge with older 18v charger

Posée par: Grumpy
yes. just look at your charger device and see what it says it will charge. this current 18v ni cd battery, can be charged in these dewalt chargers that have been out for 15 yrs. the charger will say what it can charge. there are definitely different ones, that do not charge all batteries

how long should the initial charge be

Posée par: carl
don't use it until you fully charge it, that is the best way. they come with a little bit of initial charge, that will operate the tool, but instructions on this kind of thing, tell you to fully charge before using. just like a cell phone or other battery operated device. charge first, then use. it helps get the battery to a fully charged position and fully discharged position. first charge will probably take about an hour, maybe a little more, maybe a little less

can I switch from a 18V DC 9098 type 1 Nicad to 20V lithium ion in my drill

Posée par: Dick
Switching between different voltages is a very bad idea. Either the equipment and/or battery will not work or it will be damaged.

Is there any value or way to recycle or trade in old batteries that no longer hold a charge ?

Posée par: onesnowman
Once a battery is 'dead' there is nothing that you or I can do to bring it back to life. Turn it in to Home Depot to be re-cycled.
