I have used this chop saw for a year now and have to say it has done an excellent job on cutting mild steel. The thickest i have used it for was 2 1/2 squar tub 3/16 thick and it has done very well. Oh course you want to cut slow and easy so the blade will last you longer. I am now building a trailer and have used to cut 2 inch square tubing 1/8 thick with no problems. 45 degree cuts are easy as well and i love the square tube attachment which allows you to make straight cuts on square tube on its side which make cutting smoother. See the attached image. Its now been a year and im going to order a new blade today.

First job was making 30 cuts of 1/2" EMT, burrs if any were removed by a finger touch. Next job was 8 cuts of 1/4" × 4" bar, burrs were also minor. Third job was 20 cuts of 2" Square Tube with 1/16" wall with very little burr. I an exceedingly pleased with this purchase, my abrasive saw will only get used on suspect junk metal from now on and my torch won't ever get used. The most important thing for me is square and true cuts and this saw delivered, almost burr free is a bonus. This one has cast base which was important to me after using several abrasive saws with stamped bases.

It is far far better than an abrasive saw. Clean edges that are coil to the touch. The actual fence is taller and closer to the blade than my old saw. This makes cutting short stock easier. It has an adapter for round stock but I cut 3" tubing without it just fine. It had 3 feet sticking out without slipping. Old saw couldn't do that. Cons: The switch has a safety button that is hard to use if you're left handed like me. Thereally is a sticking spot when you first pull the handle down. It doesn't have any holes to be able to bolt it down.

This is a lot less messy (minimal sparks, and a clean edge). We picked up a second regular blade and wrote "Aluminum Only" on it, so we can avoid cross contamination with the steel & stainless that we cut. (We are probably making 50 cuts a day through steel) The guys love using it. It feels solidly built and I'm pretty sure there's no going back to a standard chop saw now that they're spoiled but this. HIGH QUALITY!

Rated 5 de 5 de par quiet & capable This saw is rock solid with a true running blade and precision clamping system. After two transmission failures I put my previous (very red) slow cut saw in the trash and purchased the Evolution. It cuts mild steel tubes and rolled shapes effortlessly. It as a very safe blade guard and included a spare set of motor brushes. The clamping system has sharp graduations and the onboard allen wrench lets you totally lock it in position. The machine is quiet enough to use in a home workshop and appears to be durable enough for commercial use. And it is more than fairly priced.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Review Only 2 concerns for me. Otherwise an extremely nice product. Arm lock mechanism: if you’re not aware it is in the “semi-lock” position… it will allow you to operate and move arm downwards in cutting / running operation. THEN it will lock up on you when it reaches a certain point. Opinion: hard lock. Not partial lock. Arm should be locked or not. If locked it shouldn’t allow movement up or down. Like most saws… this is NOT a good option for mitering angle. The vice lock and its adapter could be WAY better for miter workpiece lock down. Standard straight cuts on any other types of material is fantastic. Quality saw.

Rated 5 de 5 de par I'm thrilled to share my experience with this incredible saw! After struggling with a standard wood miter saw and TCT blades to cut mild steel, I was constantly burning through blades due to the high RPM speed. I tried using a variac to resolve the issue, but it only resulted in a loss of torque, rendering the saw useless at that speed. However, my life changed when I came across this game-changer! The moment I saw it, I knew it was the tool I needed. But, foolishly, I hesitated and tried out other solutions, which ended up costing me both time and money. Now, I can confidently say that this saw is an absolute beast when it comes to cutting mild steel. It slices through it like butter, and the best part is, the blades last a long time! Don't repeat my mistake; get the right tool for the job and thank yourself later.

We work with a lot of tubing and the 90 degree cut is important for good fit up for welding. Only problem with the saw was that when cutting off a short piece, the piece was thrown up into the guard, jammed and broke the guard housing. Needs a redesign to have the guard come down from the top, instead of wrapping around the bottom of the saw.

can you use an abrasive blade with this saw? Also will it cut aluminium, and if yes, what blade?

Posée par: 2bad4all
I don't know if you can use an abrasive blade with the Evolution or not but it makes such a clean cut that I don't know why you would need to. The blade that comes with the saw will easily cut aluminum, but if you want to cut stainless steel like we often do, you'll need to purchase a blade specific for that purpose, (be sure to feed the blade slowly and let it do its job ... do not force the blade into the metal.) We really like our Evolution!

Has anyone bought one recently? Looks like the original design used regular v thread on clamping leadscrew & round handle. New, improved design uses acme lead screw & v handle. Before ordering it, I want to make sure I get the upgraded model. I figured HomeDepot didn't bother updating pictures.
Posée par: Mario
I got mine about 2 weeks ago and it came with V threads and a round handle. I'm not sure if I got a leftover model but if you don't go full ham on tightening it down they will work fine. I may try and see if I can use a square set up from an old saw.

Will this blade cut cast iron pipe?

If so how many cuts can the blade make in cast iron? Mostly 2in. - 4in. pipe we are using.
Posée par: toolguy
It cuts cast iron like butter! I'm not sure how many cuts you will get through pipe. One blade should out cut 10 -12 abrasive wheels. But it cuts so much faster and the blade doesn't get smaller and smaller. You don't have to get creative on how to make the last couple of cuts. You know, keep rotating the piece to get the most out of the wheel.

Can this saw handle 1/2" solid rebar. I cut up over 1000' every year and my Dewalt burned up. Dave
Posée par: smitty
First of all ... 1,000' of cutting doesn't really describe how much the saw is used. If each piece were five feet, then this would be 200 cuts and that's not much. But, back to the question ... this is a very industrial saw and will out last most ... however, do not underestimate the importance of the blade. You must replace a used/dull/broken tooth blade immediately or your saw will burn out. This might have happened to your last saw and it will certainly happen to the next one. If you treat this tool well, it will last a very long time.

Can this be mounted to a portable miter saw stand?
Posée par: AJ
Probably. It depends upon the stand. Most stands won’t support too much weight on the extendable supports with metal though
