Rated 5 de 5 de par Quality Product My wife and I purchased this product as a replacement for our old attic stairs. The scissor-style hinges on the old stairs were worn out and kept binding and locking, preventing them from being lowered. We liked that these stairs had a different style hinge from the traditional and looked like it would last longer. The stairs were a little difficult to install with directions that had just pictures and no words. Once installed, the stairs worked wonderfully. They lower silently and feel very sturdy when being used. Please note that these stairs latch and lower through the use of a long metal handle that must be stored when not being used.

Rated 2 de 5 de par Box is 1/4 inch thick The 54 by 25 wood perimeter box that gets attached to the opening is ONLY 1/4 inch thick and mitered pieces put together. Not surprisingly, this dimension was not noted. My old one is 3/4 inch thick. For $260 I expected better. Since it is so thin, the staples connecting each piece, broke/splintered two pieces. I had $60 taken off the price and I will be careful attaching to the opening. I'm keeping it because of the spring device it uses and I feel I can secure it by adding wood where it's not flush to the opening and I didn't feel like sending it back and looking for a replacement. Very disappointed. Maybe in a few more years they will get it down to 1/8 inch thickness :).

Rated 4 de 5 de par Fakro Attic Ladder Quality made sturdy ladder, and an insulated tight sealing hatch door were the main reasons I purchased from this maunufacturer and the specific model. I would have given it 5 stars, however the down angle is much more steep than my previous ladder and does not feel as comfortable when going up and down. It comes with a grasp handle which is very good and the stair rungs are raised up from the door giving you more places to hang on. I originally wanted to buy Fakro's metal ladder, but I would have had to then cut metal legs. Wood was much easier to cut.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Nicely made and well thought-out Door seals well and is insulated. Opens very nicely. One comment I want to make in response to another review that complained that the upper steps are too shallow because the ladder sits flush against the door: the door is flush mounted only for shipping. The brackets which hold the ladder have a slot with two positions in it. As part of the installation, you are supposed to loosen the bolts and lift the ladder away from the flush-mount shipping position and then re-tighten the bolts. This gives an extra two inches of depth to the steps. Overall we are very satisfied

Rated 5 de 5 de par Excellent attic door, real quality contruction, fantastic design I ordered this online, as it was not in stock at any HD store. Its expensive compared to the ladders in the store, but this one featured an insulated door. I wasn't too sure about the "rod" method of opening the door. But, after using this door, I will recommend this to anyone replacing their attic door. It is fantastic. The 'rod' method and latch is superior to the springs (no latch) on other doors. The beauty of this design is that it latches tight, for a smooth, flat and secure close, rather than gaping, and uneven like other doors. Since it features a rubber weather seal, the latch closes the door snugly against the weather seal. You must take the rather long rod and insert it in a small hole in the door, twisting to unlock. When you do so, the door comes down about 12-15 inches, and stops. You pull it the rest of the way, nice and safe. The springs support the weight of the door, and it is very easy to open and close. No risk of it falling. The springs are on either side of the ladder itself, attached to the hinges, and then flush against the door. This means this hardware in not in the way of the door opening, and you won't get pinched. There is much more room for accessing your attic than with other doors, that have the springs in the way of the opening. (see photo for comparison) This door does not have a piano hinge, but instead, two very heavy duty steel hinges, that are screwed into the house framing. Very sturdy. Note that this door, as with others, uses 1" framing. But recall that the frame is screwed into the house framing, and the door hardware is as well. As a result, upon installation, this framing is not the primary support structure for the door: your home framing its. The door becomes integral to your home framing, it does not hang off of the 1" frame after installation. I have included images of the old door, sagging, and with the springs exposed for comparison. The new Fakro door, with rod next to it is visible, as well as close-ups of the latch itself. Finally, you see images of the finished (not painted yet) door, with my moulding added. I have a comparison photo of the door open, where you can see the springs and the hinges (barely). I recommend this door 100%. I am very pleased with it, and will recommend it to every one. It was easy to install, or rather, as easy as any other attic door, and its construction is very good. The design is superior to any other door I have tried. Its more expensive, in fact, twice as much, but its is far superior, convenient and completely seals my attic, keeping cold, heat and little critters from entering my house.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Good value, requires careful installation The instructions are super-important to follow carefully and step by step. Ensure you size the rough opening correctly, and pay particular attention to sizing the ladder correctly. Ours worked exactly right - but only one person on the ladder and even then it can feel a bit flimsy. The insulated door on this model provides *some* R value but you will still need a second hatch on the attic side if you want a good seal. Fakro also sells a top hatch that installs directly on top of this one, inside your attic space. Or you can do what we did - make your own out of scrap wood and slap insulation on top of it.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Solid stairs! A very nice product! Before the product arrived, I had reviewed the installation instructions online. When I unwrapped the stairs, the enclosed instructions were somewhat different. I learned this was done to deal with some design changes that helped to simplify the installation. The actual installation went smoothly, although I would have preferred written instructions to the supplied pictographs. The end result looked great. The first time I tried the stairs, I was amazed at he solid feel. It was nothing like the old stairs. It felt more like a set of steps that a folding stairway.

My ceilings are around 7'6" and this states 7'10" and up. Will I be unable to trim the bottom ladder rungs to fit?
Posée par: FallinThroTheCeilingMan
I believe the spec states 7'10" to over 10'. My ceiling is approximately 8' and I trimmed about 2.5' off. There was more that I could have trimmed so I do not think this would be an issue. Quite possibly there is also one that a 7'6" ceiling falls within in the specification.

Simple:- For Fakro Model # 66804 -- How wide are the steps?

Posée par: Rich
The steps are 13 3/8" wide and 3 1/8" deep. There is also a 2.5" space between the door and the ladder which allows for a more comfortable step on the ladder.

I have installed the attic door. The AC mechanic told me I have to have 300lb rating. Now the city saids I need 350lb. I need to know what can I do and not tare out stair. If two bottom risers were removed to accommodate 8 foot ceiling. Thank you in advance for assistance.
Posée par: StoneEAst
If was a ladder in my home I would live with it. If your taking about a home with tenants and the possibility of a lawsuit, I would eat it and buy a 350 lb ladder. Even if you reinforce it somehow it won't cover you because it's not the manufactures rating. On a side note; I wouldn't carry anything that weighed more than 100 lbs up that ladder. I use the roof joists and a rope to hoist heavy things up.

Is installation available? How much?

Posée par: Mike
You will have to find a contractor or handyman for installation. Your local Home Depot should have a list of installers they could provide you with.

Will a 22 1/2” water heater fit through the door opening?

Posée par: Joan
Yes, LWP 25x54 has internal frame width clearance of 23". There is one additional obstacle: arms that hold the door when it"s opened will narrow down the opening to 21" but they are located 30" away form the end of the opening. The opening then has about 23"x29" opening available for the heater, then the opening narrows down to 21" wide. If you have additional questions please email us to service@fakrousa.com
