I think it's worth the extra money over the other big name brands. The installation is a bit time consuming due to the confusing instructions. No written instructions, only pictures. Do yourself a favor and review the instructions from start to finish before installing and make sure you understand what they are trying to explain. I installed them without the installation kit by using 1 x 2's to suspend them in the opening and then shimming the 1 x 2's to level it. Also, make sure it's square in the opening so it closes properly. I trimmed it with standard colonial moulding. Not a lot of framework to nail to, be careful.

Rated 5 de 5 de par product is very well built This access door is a great product. It was easy to install and is easy to adjust upon installation. Having woked in the comercial and industrial HVAC bussiness for 15 years i have encountered some pretty bad access doors. I was looking for a access door that had the wider demensions, a metal ladder and an insultated door. This door has all of these features and is a very well built product. My father in-law helped with the install (you will need help lifting it in place unless you have a material jack of some sort) and commented that he will be getting this door for his actic access on his new house that he is building. In short this is a great product and is very well built.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Very Satisfied with Product I did a lot of research online for attic stairs, looking for the strongest, most energy efficient and having the largest opening, along with reasonable cost that would fit my needs. It was to be installed in the space where an old attic fan was being removed. My contractor had no problem installing the unit and adjusting the ladder for my ceiling height. I also like the opener/locking mechanism, as it seems to hold the door very tight. Since installation, I have been very happy with the ease of climbing the stairs and don't feel any movement or shakiness. I'm very happy with my choice.

Rated 4 de 5 de par FAKRO metal attic ladder, design and installation Design - 5 stars Parts quality, fabrication -5 stars Assembly (wooden parts) - 5 stars Assembly (metal) - 3 stars (incorrect bolt grip length (short) used. Had to replace all of them. No protrusion through the lock nut. bolt shank has to cover all parts. washers should be added from head and tale side. Because bolts going through thin walls it is better to have bushings to avoid elongation of the holes. Installation fit - 5 stars. Installation instructions - paper and video. Overall it is a great product. Only bolt length is an issue. For added durability it is better to have bushings common to bolt installation.

Rated 5 de 5 de par excellent product I needed something to move a new furnace into the attic and this perfectly fit the job. It should be noted that while the rough opening is 30", the inside width of the frame is 28", so nothing wider than that will go through. Furthermore, it gets narrower near the top of the stairs, with the space between the springs and various brackets shrinking to around 25". I only needed 24.5", so this worked out just fine. Besides reframing the opening, the installation was a breeze. Two people are indeed recommended for lifting it into place, but it can be done with 1 strong person if you know what you're doing. Overall, this door is way better than the aluminum Werner ladder I had before. I especially like the gasket that keeps it air tight when closed and the 1.5" solid piece of wood this stuff is attached to. Keep in mind that it doesn't have a string to pull down on and instead opens/closes using a lock that must be manipulated using a 4' metal pole.

Rated 3 de 5 de par product does not give enough information in the description The step used for the 30" opening are only 13" wide. nowhere in the description is that given. Mfg. is using same step width as in smaller opening size leaving a lot of space on either side of stairway. Steps that were being replaced had a 22" wide step and were well laid out in the opening.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Good Product But Not Perfect I bought the 30" model which was highly recommended by my builder. I am definitely glad that we designed for and went with that over the 24" model. The product is very solid and well constructed, and I think it will hold up well for many years. It was also fairly priced. I do have a few complaints... My primary complaint is that the door does not shut when the ladder is folded up and pushed back up to the ceiling. Instead, it hangs down about 6". That just looks bad to me. I expected and would have preferred that it close flush, and have a rope hanging for me to pull it down when I need it. There is nothing in the manual about adjusting this, but I plan to contact Fakro to ask if it was designed to always just hang open this way or if I can increase the spring tension to fix it. From the looks of it though, I will not be able to make it close fully on its own every time. This is my primary source of dissatisfaction with the item -- I don't want the door just hanging down/open all the time. Yes there is a rod that I can use to push the door up and latch it in place but that should not be necessary in my opinion. Next, this 30" model is made to fill a 30" opening in the ceiling, but the ladder itself is no wider than what would come on the 24" model -- I assumed and would have hoped that the ladder would have been wider also. Second, the item comes with large advertisement stickers (for other Fakro products) stuck to the inside of the ladder door, so when you pull it down you see these, and every time you use the ladder you see them. They are basically impossible to remove because they are cheap paper stickers which don't come off all at once and leave all their glue and paper fiber behind. It would not be easy to scrape them off without damaging the finish of the door material. These stickers cheapen the look and are very irritating. My final thing is that the steps are about 3" deep, similar to my everyday home ladder, but once you get to the upper part (where the door is behind the steps), I would have liked for the door to be further away from the step, so my foot could be placed deeper on the step. What I mean is that because I have larger feet the front of my shoe kicks into the backside of the door when I reach those upper steps; more distance between the step and the door would help to avoid this. All around, I assume this is one of the best pull-down ladder out there today, but there are a few things that should be able to be easily addressed by the manufacturer to make it better.

My only suggestion is that you buy the installation kit, as it was a pain in the butt without it. Directions say you can tie ropes to 2x2 lumber (or broom handles) to level during installation. Install kit has threaded rods that you adjust by tightening a nut - this would have been much easier. I also don't recommend Fakro's trim kit. It's cheap plastic and doesn't cover much. There is quite a bit of adjustment available for ladder length, so maybe cut legs (if needed) an inch longer than needed and use adjustment bolts to fine tune ladder length. Don't cut legs too short, it is already adjusted down as far as it will go.

Is there a fire rating on this? Hoping to install via my garage where the current fire rating on the sheet rock is 1hr.

Posée par: Michelle
Michelle, the LMS model is not fire-rated. If you are in need of a 1 hour fire-rated model that requires US certification I would recommend our LMF model. The LMF 30x54 model is currently out of stock but you can enter in your email on Home Depot's website to be notified when it is available for purchase. It is rated at 60 minutes according to the ASTM E119 and NFPA 288.

Posée par: Dave
It does not come with mounting hardware. It comes like a pre-hung door that is framed. Buy 8 lag bolts, follow easy leveling tip and bolt frame. Have some shims handy. This is the best and last ladder you will buy. I installed 2 in my house and use 1 everyday. Also, if you have to trim legs, cut one inch longer than your measurement. Trust me, its easier to cut again then be too sort. Remember to measure the top side of leg which is longer than the back.

Will it work with 9’ ceiling

Posée par: LT
Yes I have 8’ ceilings and had to cut a couple of rungs off. I believe it’s actually rated for up to 10’ ceilings. I did a lot of research when buying these I even returned a couple sets before I found these they are really good quality and I like that they latch tightly to make a good seal and there isn’t a string hanging in the middle of the hallway.

What is the swing clearance when you unfold the first portion of the ladder, dropping it to 15"? I'm trying to fit this into my walk-in closet and need to clear the top of the closet door frame before is will unfold into the bedroom.
Posée par: Scott
Scott, please check "Specification" under Info & Guides section above. This ladder projection is 73.25" and if you have that much clearance you will have no issue to unfold the ladder. If you do not have that much space please send us an email to service@fakrousa.com and will look into your project in details.
