Rated 5 de 5 de par Now they all match Recently had trim on home painted and decided to replace all the original under eave vents to match the newer ones on an addition. Everything matches and it all looks fantastic. The white finish acted as a primer coat and it covered easily with the finish paint. I know they're durable because the ones on the addition are around 10 yrs old and show no sign of rust ,etc. They are the same size as the original vents but have a better venting design and allow more airflow than the old ones. Tthey're easy to install with nails or screws.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Serves the purpose The net free area (NFA) of this vent is 65-Square Inches as stated in the specs. I verified this with the manufacturer's website of this vent. The Vent calculation is simply; Attic Length-Feet X Attic Width-Feet = Attic Area-Square Feet, Attic Area-Square Feet / 2.083 = Net Free Area-Square Inches total including Intake & Exhaust. This is based on the IBC/IRC 1/300 rule. So, 50% of that is NFA of Intake and the other 50% is NFA for Exhaust. It's good practice to error on the side of a bit more intake Vs exhaust too.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Careful what you read Net Free Area is all that matters. Yes this is misleading, but that does not mean that it does not work as a vent. The vent is fine, just realize that it is not 100% NFA. Figure on 45% and you will be fine (51sq in). Some people just like to get angry. Math is math and venting is venting. Intake must equal outflow. Plan on 1sq in per sq ft of attic space. (50/50% IN/OUT).

Rated 5 de 5 de par Saved me money on my electric bill Ok, so outside of the overly academic discussion on airflow calculations, let's talk about what new vents can do for you. Most homes already have some form of soffit venting system today. In most cases, these vents will have filters on the backs of them. The filters are generally permanently attached and non-serviceable. A plugged filter means that little or no airflow is occurring. This breaks the attic cooling cycle and leads to higher A/C costs. I replaced all of my vents and instantly saw a 30% drop in my electric bill. If you've never replaced your soffit vents or it's been a while since they've been replaced, they are probably plugged up. You could stand to save a bunch of money with a really simple solution. Another thing to look for is ensuring the hole in the soffit itself is big enough for the vent. I've seen homes where the builder literally put their fist through the soffit and then put a filter there. Widen any holes if necessary. These are really simple to install. I just used a bunch of drywall screws and it worked well.

Rated 5 de 5 de par A GREAT ITEM AND A REAL GOOD PRICE I needed to add vents before installing a whole house fan. These vents were just the right size and just flexible enough to accommodate slight curving in the soffit material. The rectangle I cut out was 6.75 in X 14.75 in. This was a little smaller than the site recommended but i wanted to give a little more support because the soffit material was the "peg board" material and i wanted the screws to hold. The web site stated that the free ventilation was 65 sq inches per vent..... the box they came in stated it was 56 sq inches.....I verified with the manufacturer that the 65 sq inches was in fact correct. During shipping, the louvers could get flattened down a bit but they're real easy to open back up with your thumbs... you might even be able to squeeze a few more sq inches out of them.

Yes, these are "flimsy" but they are strong enough to keep rats and mice from getting into your attic (assuming you have sealed other potential openings) if you secure all six screw holes. I used small stainless steel 1/2" long "gutter" screws that are finished in white available at home depot in a 25 pack to secure to my wood soffit and they looked like they were made for these white vents. I don't see why they won't hold up as the soffits are protected from direct contact with elements.

Surprisingly, this vent can also be used on a cement block foundation with a crawl space. The size matches a cement block and provides adequate ventilation for a crawl space. I found using a masonry drill and plastic anchors provides a secure mount and allows for a quick and easy means of replacing a damaged unit.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Specifications do not match those advertised. Soffit vents are usually used to provide intake ventilation for an attic which uses ridge vent as exhaust ventilation. That is, the cold air coming in the soffit vents pushes hot air out the ridge vents. For this type of system to work properly, the intake must provide at least as much air flow as the exhaust (otherwise, rain and snow may be sucked into your attic through the exhaust vents). The airflow is measured using the "net free area" (NFA) of the vents. The NFA is the open area of the vent not blocked by the grate, insect screens, etc. Thus, to properly vent your attic, the total NFA of the intake vents must be at least as large as that of the exhaust vents. So, the most important specification of the soffit vent is its NFA. The NFA advertised on this site for the EAC16X8W does not match that of the EAC16X8W in my local store (or the next nearest store for that matter). It may not in your local store either, so check the NFA specified on the box before buying. Note: You are required to rate the product and state whether you would recommend it to a friend or not when filling out a review. You should ignore the rating and recommendation I selected for this review.

I need to replace the vent on my eaves, many holes. My vent opening is only 12 X 4, but I can't find that size. I'm guessing there is no harm to get a much bigger size? Do the screws come with it?

No, they do not. But I bought a short length self tapping screw to use. Installation was very easy

If your contractor used plywood sheathing as shown in the photo you are going to have much bigger problems in the future with all the wood to soil contact!

How much space between vents under the soffit?

Posée par: Tack
The ratio of attic area to vent area in a typical residential roof is between 150:1 and 300:1. The ratio depends on a number of factors; refer to local code. The amount of intake and exhaust should be balanced (about the same). So if your attic area (square feet of the flat floor area) is 1200 sq ft, you'll need between 4 and 8 sq ft of ventilation (2 to 4 for intake and 2 to 4 for exhaust). The net area of the vent is called Net Free Area (NFA) and can be found in the description/specifications. Sometimes the NFA is shown in sq in. As you may know, there are 144 sq in in one sq ft. So to answer your question, you should space the vents equally in the area you are venting, and the number of vents will be determined by the amount of ventilation and NFA for each vent chosen.
