Rated 4 de 5 de par Plenty of Power [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a nice addition to any workshop. Assembly is not difficult, though it doesn't match the directions in the instruction manual as far as the worktable plate bracket goes. The belt is pre-installed though, which is a plus. As for operation, my first observation was that it’s surprisingly quiet. It is also heavy enough that I could use it without clamping it to the workbench and there was little, if any, movement. The belt has plenty of power, but a potential drawback is that it only has one speed. The disc sander is a nice bonus that allows you to sand at more precise angles. The included belt and disc are a very rough grit, so if you work with a lot of soft wood, you’ll probably want to change the belt to a finer grit. The angle of the belt can easily be adjusted with the included hex key, though there is no onboard storage for that key, so you’ll want to be sure to keep up with it. Overall it’s a nice midrange belt sander. There are some out there with more bells and whistles, but this will certainly meet the needs of the average DIYer.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Low Quality, but Functional [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A good bench sander had been on my wishlist for quite some time, and I was excited to try this combination belt/disc sander out as soon as it arrived. It has quite a few good features, but I also found the quality to be a bit lacking. I use my tools primarily for woodworking, but this sander is versatile enough that it can handle the odd job here and there for metal shaping as well. The 4 Amp 120V motor is powerful enough that I haven't noticed it bogging down at all, and the belt didn't slip when heavily loaded, unlike complaints I've heard about the competition's models. The sander is single speed, with the belt running at 1900 ft/min. The solid cast iron base of the unit bumps the weight up to 37 pounds, which is heavy enough that it doesn't really need to be bolted down, although there is a hole on each end that allows for fastening to a bench for a bit more security. It's easy to adjust the belt angle from horizontal to vertical, and anywhere in between - just use the included hex key to loosen/tighten one bolt. I just wish there was a place to stow the key on board the tool. Belt tracking is straightforward as well, with a knob for adjusting it back and forth. Replacing the belt is pretty easy too, with the tensioning lever easily accessible on the backside of the belt platform. The 2-1/4" dust port is in a good location, and is sized perfectly to accept a standard shop vac hose without an adapter. Retention is pretty good too - I didn't have any problems with the hose slipping out during operation or adjustment of the tool. The miter gauge that comes with the sander is constructed of all ABS plastic, only has 5° graduations, and is overall pretty flimsy. The aluminum and plastic work table flexes quite a bit during use, and creates an uneven gap against the sanding wheel when the angle is adjusted to anything but 90°. The work stop and work table are both only attached at one side, and tend to have a springboard vibration effect when the work piece is at the unsupported end. Unfortunately I noticed a few quality defects in the materials while I was assembling and testing the sander. The biggest issue I had was that the work table adjustment screw hole in the cast iron base was threaded so sloppily that I couldn't get the screw to advance into the threads. After spending 10 minutes trying, I finally took a 1/2" drill bit and countersunk the hole very slightly to remove the offending threads. One of the belt rollers also had a sizeable spall in it that doesn't significantly affect operation, but points to low quality of materials. Overall this sander is probably about middle of the pack with its competition. I did a bit of research, and it seems like the other models in this price range have their own problems as well. The General International sander will get the job done, but don't expect precision work from it.
