Rated 3 de 5 de par Tricky to install I had one of these previously that had a metal insert and came predrilled. It was considerably easier to install and was designed to last much longer than the wood now used. Unfortunately, a truck backed over my post, twisting the metal stake and destroying the plastic parts, so I bought this one as the only available replacement. The current design has a treated wood (instead of metal) stake you drive into the ground, and then you have to drill holes in the plastic square tube that goes over the stake and holds the box platform. Just be sure to install the stake level and at the correct depth so your box will be at the specified height for the mail carrier to reach it. Also, I had to go online to find the installation instructions, which were not included with the product. That was important, as installation was not intuitively obvious, at least to me. I needed this specific post, as the RubberMaid box I prefer snaps onto the top part of this post assembly. That feature saved my box when the truck backed into the previous post, as it just flipped the box off of the post, and it landed on the ground with no damage to it. Also, be sure to position the stake facing correctly, or you can't position the square plastic tube so the screws will go into the wood from both sides. The stake is not large enough to fill the hollow tube on all sides, but the instructions don't tell you that in advance. And be sure to place a piece of wood on top of the wooden stake as you are driving it into the ground--otherwise it may split duriing that process.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Not meant for more than short term This mailbox is listed as requiring no digging or concrete mixing. This is true if you want a temporary solution. The construction of the polymer is not bad at all. The wooden post that you mount the polymer to is basically a small board with a point on the end, smaller than a 2 x 4. It looks like a fence picket. The "picket" doesn't completely fill the polymer post which is slightly over 3" square. However, you cannot go to your average hardware store and purchase a 3" square post. So, you are stuck with this flimsy, rectangular "picket" that you have to use as the anchor and screw the polymer into. It's a joke setup. We needed to get a mailbox up in a hurry in bad weather so used this but had to replace in two months at it was falling over. Do yourself a favor and just buy the good post, buy a post level, get a little gravel and mount the post with cement. You'll be happy that you did.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Sturdy but not pre-drilled As a single, disabled woman I had a tough time installing because this was not pre-drilled and I can't dig very well for sinking/supporting the post. Right now it is mounted if a tad wobbly.

I have an existing 4 inch round metal post.

Posée par: Cros
Hi Cros, The post in this kit will not fit over your 4 inch round pole. I might suggest the X bracket you mentioned and just drill new holes in the mail box to fit. The bracket you pictured in your question is too small to properly fit a 4 inch round post. Mike,
