Last month I added 3 Grape Day, 100 watt, 12volt solar panels, to my existing array. I used this extension cable to connect the new panels to the existing array. The combined panels all sending power to the solar controller, It worked great !! This week I added three more 100 watt panels and again connected them all together with this extension cable. All the new parts of the system are " plug and play ". I did need to cut this cable in half, to connect it to the existing system. Easy parallel install, all the positive cables click together, as do the minus. Cables are marked + and -- And will only fit into their respective polarity. Sincere Thanks, Vince - Out

Rated 5 de 5 de par Critical Accessary Get two (one each for + & -) of these, unless your setup allows the panel to be within 20 or 30 inches of the charge controller. I park the RV in shade but can still collect solar with the panel about 12 feet away.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Part of a larger purchase. The description needs to be updated to indicate that you will need two of these. Otherwise very pleased.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Excellent, but you need two This is very good cable, but being inexperienced in such matters I thought it was dual-wire cable. It is only one cable, and solar panels require two. As it turned out, 15-ft was the exact length I needed, and it works fine.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Definitely need an extension cord. Found out that need 2 of these, the one is not enough. The cord connected to the solar panel is very short.

The cable is fine and works great, but they should have added a note that you need two of them to extend it. Now I am reading reviews that say people buy them and cut them in half, but I wanted a long extension cord. So I needed two of them.

Are all these connectors used in all new solar panels universal (not proprietary)? I have cables from another mfr I would like to use.
Posée par: don
The Grape 15 foot Extension Cable MC4 connectors are universal and common to industry-wide solar products produced after about 2011. They are usually not used at the charge controller or conventional disconnect switches which have their own enclosure weather standards. A 6 inch MC4 to Bare Conversion Cable Pair is available to make the transition once out of the solar panel environment or cut a 15 ft Extension cable in half to make a longer conversion to bare pair. The other manufacturer should specify compatibility but they may not meet this standard if older.

I bought the 600 watt package which comes with 3 200 watt panels. How can I wire it up for a 24 volt system? Or can I charge at 12 volts to the batteries and then come off the batteries at 24 volts?

Posée par: Rich
Wire two 12v batteries In series to get 24v.  However, the charge controller for the solar panels I got was only 12v, not 24…

I'm using the Grape 50w panel with 12v battery, solar controller and inverter. Will I need 2 of these extension cables? If so, why not sell them in pairs?

For 15-foot runs, you would need two of these cables plus our GS-MC4-CC cable set. However, most customers simply buy a single cable, cut it in half, strip back the bare ends a bit, and use the two halves to connect from panel to controller (this works for cable runs under 8 feet, which takes care of most people's needs). Be sure to mark your positive lead end if you do this, to avoid connecting in reverse polarity.

How long of a cable can I run to charger

Posée par: Guido
It's impossible to answer this question without more details on your system - we'd need to know what kind of panels you have, how they are connected, what your battery voltage is, and what kind of charge controller you are using. Contact Grape Solar for details, or use an online voltage drop calculator and make sure your voltage drop is below 3%.

You aren't giving us enough information to answer the questions - we'd need to know what kind of panels, how many, whether they are in series or parallel, what kind of charge controller you have, distance from panels to controller, and the voltage of your battery bank. Contact Grape Solar Technical Support directly with this information, and we can make some recommendations.

Do you sell an MC4 "unlatch tool"? The connections can be difficult if not impossible by hand.

Posée par: solarnewbee
We do not stock these, they are widely available online under the term "MC4 Disconnect".
