Rated 5 de 5 de par Ceiling texture scraper The trick to having success with this tool is ensuring the ceiling is very damp. I purchased a two gallon pump sprayer from Home Depot to apply water and vinegar. I guess the vinegar breaks down the popcorn texture. I added half hot water and half white vinegar to the sprayer’s container, pumped and sprayed until the ceiling was very damp and soaked. I placed a plastic bag to the scraper and attached it with clips to hold the bad in place. The ceiling came off with little effort. The plastic bags have to be replaced often make sure you have plenty of them. I removed popcorn from my entire house in about seven hours, with little effort and mess.

No useful instructions are available. I used small binder clips to attach a plastic bag to catch the scrapings, which greatly reduced the mess. Don't let the bag get too full; empty it into a larger trash bag without removing it and continue working. Keep the blade as flat to the ceiling as possible and gradually increase the angle until it bites in. I used a spray bottle with water to loosen the ceiling coating. It works best on flat ceilings, as it floats over dimples, but it makes quick and clean work of the large flat areas. It can get within an inch or so of the edges; do these by hand. Pictures below, since I couldn't find a description of how anyone else attached a bag.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Just use a taping knife and a tarp on the floor Thought it was a cool concept, but this is one of the worst tools in action. 1. As the bag gets filled in it spills bits here and there so you’ll still need to cover the floor for easier cleanup. 2. Bag gets super heavy as it collects so you have to constantly empty it or need to waste a lot of energy holding it up and scraping 3. Way more force is required to do a simple task since the scraper is dull. Best advice i can give is get a spay bottle from the dollar store and spay it with some water, wait a bit. Then scrape it with a taping knife. Way less effort, bit messy but if you have a plastic tarp throw it on the floor for a easier cleanup and way less dust than dry scraping.

Rated 4 de 5 de par wow... what a time-saving tool! I have scraped popcorn ceilings in the past -- what a messy, dirty job that will make your neck sore! I saw this tool and decided to try it. I have a new "best friend" for scraping popcorn ceilings. After using my pump sprayer to dampen with water, the popcorn just falls in to the plastic bag attached to the scraper with very little effort. I used plastic "grocery bag" and dumped into a 5 gallon bucket when it got heavy so I never had to change bags while scraping I did a 12x12 room in less than a 40 minutes -- AND NO MESS! The little clips that attach the plastic bag to the scraper is the only reason I don;t give it a 5 star rating. When they break, I'll use office "clips" to hold the bag to the scraper. .

It removed the popcorn as it said it would do. Easy and simple to use. My husband attached it to a pole as we have high ceilings and it worked great! But, in all fairness, removing a popcorn ceiling was a bigger job than we anticipated. This product helped tremendously. We had to change the bag often as the wet popcorn gets heavy but overall most of our mess was afterwards fixing those nasty nooks and crannies that are now visible without the popcorn. Now loving my clean, white ceilings!!

Rated 4 de 5 de par This is worth it! After scraping our kitchen ceiling and cleaning up the mess it made, I was looking for something to help prevent such a mess. This tool definitely made it better. There still will be a little that falls to the floor, but not nearly as bad as if you didn't use this. It takes a little longer to scrape since you'll need to stop and empty your bag. We used a grocery store plastic bag. Some people mentioned that they lost their clips, but we did not have an issue with that. It does not allow you to scrape all the way to the wall. This was not a issue with us since we are installing crown molding. I recommend this product and will use it again!

Rated 1 de 5 de par Definitely something I regret buying it's a fancy over priced scraper that is more time consuming to use than the alternatives such as a angled scraper knife on a pole or what I found works beautifully is a wallpaper scraper. As for the bag idea not a very good one in my opinion. Wet popcorn texture gets heavy real quick so you have to dump the bag after every few runs and every I have to stop what I'm doing and empty my bag I lose money. What works alot better is thick plastic covering everything and go to town. When you're done roll up the plastic and remove it from room. It's not rocket science and you definitely don't need a specialty tool that will do more harm than good. But that's just my opinion.

Rated 5 de 5 de par tool works perfectly Wet your popcorn with a pump sprayer shortly before scraping. Do one section at a time. Attach small plastic bag to your scraper. Bag should hold only a few pounds between emptying. Spend the time to attach it well, it should last the whole job. Scrape slowly and firmly. Tool works perfectly as long as your procedure is correct. The wetting process is the key to success followed by a well attached bag. Use all the clips provided and some masking tape helps to reinforce the bag.

Can this tool be used without wetting the ceiling?

Posée par: Wolly
Works really well using a spray bottle with water. I don't think it would work as well dry.

Can a longer handle be attached to this scraper? What type of plastic bag can be attached?

Posée par: MarciaG
Yes you can attach a longer handle, but a shorter one lets you control the angle of the blade for a better job at removal. You can also use standard plastic grocery bags to catch the waste. Be sure to clean product after use. I store the bag clips in a sealable sandwich bag and tape to the product so I don't loose them.

Is there a solvent to spray on popcorn ceiling for easier removal

Posée par: clb
Just use water in a garden sprayer - let it sit for 5 min, spay again, wait 5 min and then scrape It should come off easy Don't get it over wet or you will take the joint compound off as well.

where do i get the clips to hold the bags on?

Posée par: Butcher
Clips came with the one I purchased. Would think something like paper clips would work - you just need something that will hold plastic bag to frame tight without sticking up and possibly hitting ceiling and clip has to be strong/tight enough to hold some weight as the bag fills up

if the popcorn ceiling had been painted, will this tool work?

Posée par: bob
Yes, you will just need to make sure to spray water on it and let it sit to help soften the texture. Otherwise it will be harder to remove.

Is there a way to use this when the surface has been painted ?

Is there a way to use this when the surface has been painted ?
Posée par: sde
In my experience if you knock off the high points of the painted popcorn texture and then wet the surface using a hose with a multiple-spray nozzle on a setting of "mist", enough of the wetness will penetrate and you can scrape the remaining popcorn. In some instances it has peeled off in long strips actually making clean up easier, other times ... not so much. I wear a dust mask with replaceable filters and use plenty of plastic sheeting to catch the falling debris. Hope this helps.

do you have a vacuum bag I can hook my shop vac to?

Posée par: Suds
No, I used Walmart shopping bags, but when it gets to heavy they fall off the frame. I stopped using and just used a putty knife. It just was not worth the hassle. I would scrap off the ceiling and then vacuumed up. This tool was more of a hassle then anything. They need to design a collection bag for it that will not fall off with the weight of the wet popcorn.
