Rated 4 de 5 de par No blisters Easy assembly, effective dethatcher. As with all electric garden tools, the extension cord takes some getting use to. The raking motion is what propels the machine so you have to be sensitive to not staying in one spot. You still have to rake or mow up the dethatched debris, but that was expected. The housing is molded plastic or vinyl so how long it will hold up is questionable. It took 3 sessions to get thru about 1/2 of my property because you have to remove the debris. But it definitely loosened up more than doing it manually. That takes care of the flat sections, now I'm looking forward to the inclines....New toy and less muscle strain.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Outstanding....Did not tear up my lawn like a large dethatcher....just pulled up the dead grass. The wire tines did a great job of dethatching without tearing up the good grass. Much better than the professional ones with the big metal blades. Assembled very quickly. I finished my dethatching within 2 hours of receiving it. Very light weight and easy to move around. Would have liked to have had a bag to catch most of the thatch...however, since it ONLY got the thatch and not a bunch of good grass and dirt, the raking afterward was a much smaller job that I predicted. Outstanding product for a homeowner.....no need to lug a rental unit back and forth from the store.....I can just run it any time in spring and fall.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Works effortlessly and does the job it is supposed to do well. This is a very good dethatcher and I wish I had bought one years ago, because using a manual detaching rake is just too darn hard and time consuming. This machine makes it so easy. The only problem I had with it is that one of the selector knobs in the center of he wheel, which you turn to adjust detaching height, came off in my hand as I tried to pull it out and turn to adjust to a different setting. I put it back on and am able to adjust the setting, but with some difficulty. It is only one one wheel so I think I can live with it, and I don't think you need to adjust the height very often anyway.

We were a little hesitant to order because of the small and light weight size. DON'T let that fool you as it is a pretty powerful little machine and easy to use. I could not believe the amount of dead grass it pulled out and then we just used our mower with a bag to pick up all the dried dead grass. The only mistake we made was dethatching the length of the yard and then thatching again going cross ways. We should have just gone one way and I think it put our lawn into shock and the green turned brown but with a lot of watering it is slowly turning green. With this in mind don't hesitate to invest in this great little machine.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Very nice item for the price I have a "typical" suburban lawn (around 10,000 square feet) in need of thatching (first time ever). Granted it took somewhere between 2-3 hours to do because it doesn't have the power of, say, a gas operated thatcher. I had to walk slow, but it did do the job successfully. I think the key is to first cut the grass very short (and bag it). I recommend it for the annual chore.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Easy to assemble and does a great job. This dethacher works great. Light weight and pulls itself along. 10 minutes of use will bury you in 30 min. of raking. and bagging. We have a lawn care service that cuts, they don't bag clippings. So we have 10 years of thatch laying on the ground. This machine made quick work of the job. Just have lots of large lawn bags when you start the job. Cause your going to need em. I have a Homelite electric lawnmower, so knew what to expect when it comes to dragging the cord around. Making this product cordless would improve it a lot. But probably too expensive for something you only use once a year.

Rated 5 de 5 de par So easy to use! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had this product for 3 months now to adequately test the product and I've dethatched my yard, my mom's yard and also my neighbor's yard. Works great! I've never dethatched my yard before (so it needed to be done), but I'm glad that I now have this equipment in my arsenal of tools to keep my yard looking healthy. Assembly was quick and minimal. I would have preferred gas powered, but this is an adequate tool that had enough power to get an annual chore done in about 1 hour.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Works better than expected I bought this with hesitation thinking it wouldn't do a very good, being electric and not gas powered. I was certainly wrong. It has plenty of power if you make sure you mow your lawn first. If you need to use an extension cord, make sure you buy the proper gauge, that being 14AWG, otherwise the motor will overheat with extended use. I was able to detach heavy moss in my backyard that is near a stream and heavily wooded. I did my whole yard in one pass, not multiple passes like I thought I would have to. It came with spare tines for when the originals wear out. Saved myself a lot of money since the guy who usually does the detaching for me charges me $275 to do it, I paid $149 for this and will do it myself from now on. Don't hesitate on this purchase and get the extended warranty as well, because it will wear out after the warranty is up.

Just to verify, the cord attached is 100 ft long?

Posée par: Lauren
Hi Lauren- The electric cord for this unit is about 16" long. You will need to use an extension power cord that is rated for outside use and is no longer than 100'. Make sure the cord is rated for use with the amperage of this product (10 amp). I've included a URL address for the operator's manual for this tool; there you will find specifics on the type of power cords recommended to use with this tool I hope this information helps. Just copy and paste into your address bar: https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/23/2385fda5-1102-4548-9961-8ffe2ab89caf.pdf

Could I also use this on garden beds with fine mulch to dig up small weeds? it's not chunks of bark but more like topsoil.
Posée par: Cheryll
I would think you could but expect it to throw a lot of dirt back at you. Also I think you may just propagate more weeks by cutting them up into smaller pieces and be harder to remove than just doing the back breaking work of pulling them by hand. I use a product called Preen in addition to hand pulling, my flower beds and garden are virtually weed free.

Does this work well on St Augustine grass? I saw a review from someone a different brand that said that it damaged his grass.
Posée par: Bevannwms
THIS ANSWER ONLY FOR ST. AUGUSTINE! The machine is designed to do 2 things. It cuts or pulls up the strings of St. Augustine runners that aren't rooted and then it's oprimary function of sweeping debris that's and accumulated forming mats on the soil surface up for removal. Use the dethatcher at a shallow depth adjusted to remove the mat but not disturb the soil. The most common mistake is using it as a tiller. Remove all accumulated leaves and other large detritus from winter. Don't use on wet turf. Fertilize 3 weeks before use so the turf is fed and has resources to recover. Don't use machine in shady areas or on weak, wet or patchy areas. Just after turf emerges from dormant stage and is growing, use the machine without overlap east to west then north to south. Mow. Clean up the mess. Wait for the turf to recover. Can be a while. The 'tease over' of the runners is pulled up and cut away and any loosely rooted plants are also ripped out. A good time to follow-up with a plug aerator, other heavy maintenance. Use on weak turf, shady, swampy, dormant or in the autumn may kill your lawn. This machine is a one trick pony used only to stop your turf from choking itself to death from overgrowth and the waste products that accumulate. This is not a knife style dethatcher that clips the runners and 'rakes' the mat free. It's rotating prongs that tear. Several thousand dollars difference in technology between the two. Use with care and sparingly it will do a passable job.

If it doesn't have weights, how does it work? The tow-behind dethatcher uses weights. Does the operator have to press it down as he or she pushes it?

Posée par: Rich
Thank you, Rich. This unit is not a tow-behind. You do not have to press this dethatcher down as you push it. You can adjust the amount of contact between the tines and the thatch.

Does this pick up rocks

Posée par: Weez
Thank you for asking, Weez. Make sure the lawn is clear of stones, sticks, wires, and other objects that could damage the dethatching tines or motor. Such objects could be accidentally thrown by the dethatcher in any direction and cause serious personal injury to the operator and others. This unit was not designed to pick up rocks. Hope this helps! -Keri

After putting down moss killer the moss will turn black, so will this dethatcher rack up the dead moss?
Posée par: Flyall
Thank you for asking, Flyall. This dethatcher will pick up any debris that is not rooted into the ground. If your moss is dead, depending on how close the dethatcher is to the root of the moss, it may or it may not. However, if the moss is trimmed then yes, this unit will pick it right up.
