Rated 1 de 5 de par Good luck getting a new solenoid I wish I'd read the reviews about the faulty solenoid. Worked OK for a year and then nada. Figured I'd just pick one up locally (haha good one) but found out I'd have to order it online for around $100 and decided to put that $100 towards a better unit so I'm not putting in new $100 solenoids every winter.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Great humidifier BUT ! Home Depot doesn't sell replacement pad and they are almost impossible to find in Canada. What a pain!

Rated 1 de 5 de par Don't be fooled The "12 Gallon" refers to the amount of moisture it is theoretically capable of putting into the air. It has nothing to do with the amount of water it sends down the drain. Installed and operating as recommended it was sending about 40 liters of water AN HOUR down the drain, at Toronto water prices that is about $3 a day. I invested another $10 on a valve for the feed line and was able to cut the wasted water down to ONLY 6 Liters an hour but at that rate I can barely keep the humidity at 25%. I'm lucky that I didn't get my old drum humidifier into the garbage on time, going to have to rebuild it I guess...

Rated 3 de 5 de par Replacement Pad Home Depot sells the Wait RF5000 by Air King replacement evaporator pad. It fits in this model's distribution tray. Works just fine. $12.99 + taxes.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Don't buy it Home Depot doesn't stock the replacement filter. Great humidifier but replacing the filter is important. Thanks Home Depot!

Rated 4 de 5 de par long install time/ defective part My unit came with a defective transformer as well. Had an electrician friend check it out and then returned whole uninstalled unit to home depot for replacement. 2nd Install went well into return air duct. Tried to use existing humidistat in house to control unit with no luck. Finally used supplied one and installed next to furnace. Vcr install details were better than paper brochures. Does waste a lot of water to drain but raised humid level in house by 12% After 2 months of use, pad was still quite clean. Tried to buy a replacement pad but none are made for this model, only the larger HE 260 etc. bummer.

Rated 4 de 5 de par DIY install (not for beginners) I bought this unit a couple of weeks ago after researching on the internet. Well known brand and good coverage for the money. I also think that parts would be easy to get based on the brand name. I opened it all up, read the instructions, and got it all organized. This is key as there are many small parts and each component requires specific parts and has dedicated instructions. The instructions were OK, but not great. You have to keep referring to separate ones for different parts and piece it all together in your head as you go. The VCR tape was useless to me, as I suspect many others, as I dont have a VCR, and haven't had one for years. DVD's are the way to go, as the others said. This is considered a DIY job, but not a basic one, be prepared for some headaches and time, about 4-5 hours for sure. I used a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade to make the cuts in the ductwork, after making strategic pilot holes for the blade. This worked very well, but wear eye protection! Little shardes of steel flew around. This also allows you to trim and fine tune the openings much easier than tin snips. Getting the holes just the right size is very important, especially with the sail switch and humidistat. Surprisingly, it did come with some foil tape, but I bought some (not knowing this) and I did some extra sealing around the existing furnace and ductwork. Surprisingly, one of the most frustrating exercises of this install was getting the backing off the foil tape! What a pain that was, especially with short finger nails. I had a plug for the transformer handy, and a hot water pipe just above the unit, so that was straightforward. The wiring is much easier to figure out without the convoluted instructions. Just series the units together with a single wire in any order. It is way simpler than the instructions imply. I did, however, tighten the water tap too tight and it was leaking after a week or so. I had to replace it, cost about $10. It does not need to be very tight, just snug, be careful here. In operation, it did drain way more water than I thought it would. Seemed like a waste, just going down into the sump. I may try to rig something up so it can accumulate in a tub and use it to water the plants in the winter. In this day and age of water conservation, there should be some (possible) solutions from the manufacturer for this waste. The unit worked incredibly well, I must say. I was impressed with the humidity rise in the house. We have one of those indoor/outdoor weather stations, and the humidity jumped from 34% to 54% within 12 hours. I had to dial it in carefully as the windows were condensing up big time, especially when the temperature outside dropped. I have found a sweet spot, but I suppose there will always be some condensation with the unit. We gave the portable humidifier to my parents, and our dry throats and noses are gone!

Rated 4 de 5 de par A Struggle to Install I purchased this unit on the recommendation of an associate at Home Depot. I began by looking at a mobile whole house unit and thought of simply placing it near my furnace in hopes that the blower would pick up some of the nearby humidity. This is not the way to go and apparently only picks up 20% of the available humidity. So on the advice and assurance of easy installation I picked up the HE220A. The key is to unpack everything and to lay it out taking inventory that all the parts are present. While I wasn't missing anything the VHS tape and a few other items were held within the humidifier case itself. This 'easy' project took me just over 5 hours and doesn't include researching whether the install may impact my Tarion Home Warranty or my Lennox Furnace warranty. It also doesn't include retraining myself on how to operate my VCR (who uses these things anymore?) The install did include my having to relocate a plug closer to the furnace. This is a dedicated plug directly to the panel (which is slightly overkill for this application). Creating holes in the furnace is easy at first. The large hole is much easier to deal with but you get a one shot chance at trimming your borders. Metal snips or scissors don't perform well on a second pass to trim the edges, so you are best to take your time and make the cuts right the first time. The 2 other holes for the humidistat and the sail switch are even more difficult as the corners are a terrible exercise. The sail switch install is more forgiving, (so feel free to hack it a bit. However cutting the hole for the humidistat requires precision as only a clean and level edge will properly receive the mounting plate. Bending the stubborn jagged edges is only possible on the hole for the humidifier as it can more than accommodate your hand and part of your arm to get an angle. I would recommend following the electrical instructions posted by CalgaryDIY. It took me a few minutes, I needed to draw a diagram, but it worked perfectly. The manual has an overly complex system of wiring and will leave you scratching your head. No other parts were required. Everything seemed to work great and I'm glad to have my home more comfortable. I was somewhat surprised at the amount of water in the drainage tube, but I assume that this is to be expected. All in all, so far so good but reserve half a day, take your time and improvise on the instructions.
