Can this be used on a popcorn ceiling?

    Posée par: Esha
Probably. Obviously, the best thing to do would be to scrape the stipple off first, but you could try it. I used this product in our eat-in kitchen nook. We have a house that was built in 1958, and the walls are covered with two layers of 3/8" cement board (making the thickness 3/4" from studs to exterior of wall). The previous owners had placed 4x4" tiles half way up the walls all the way around the nook, and it appeared that they had glued/"PL'ed" the tiles on instead of using tiling thinset. So, after we had removed the tiles themselves, we were left with swirls of insanely hard glue. Our options were, 1) cut the cement board out and replace with new drywall, or 2) scrape off as much glue as we could to make the surface as smooth and even as possible. The problem with 1) was that drywall comes in 1/2" and 5/8" but we needed a total thickness of 3/4". Now I could have put a layer of 1/4" something on first and then put the 1/2" drywall on top of that but that would just incur extra costs. So, I decided to go the 2) route. I used a heavy duty, 4' long scraper to scrape off as much glue as I could to a point where I felt it was reasonably smooth and even. I then placed the shiplap over top of the glue covered wall. Honestly, in the end, I don't think you'd ever know by looking at it that the walls behind the shiplap are covered with super hard glue - it looks nice and smooth and even. In conclusion, it's technically not the professional route to take, but it's the cheapest and you'd never know the difference. Just my two cents.

Can you instal wall lights to this without causing it to crack or damage it?

    Posée par: Christine
Hi! No it will not damage it or crack it. It will be the same as installing it on a gyproc. Thank you for your question!

How do you recommend finishing the sides? Does this product offer side pieces for purchase?

    Posée par: KTucker
No side pieces We used 3/4 inch round for the corners I'd never recommend this product to anyone. Way over priced and difficult to use...

Hi can this product be installed around a gas fireplace? Any heat resistance? Or can you recommend a product that would be good for this?

    Posée par: Brad
If you are installing this MDF Shiplap around a gas fireplace, please respect the distance requested by the gas fireplace manufacturer guide.

Could this product be used as a backsplash in a kitchen if painted? (Cabin - not typical kitchen use in terms if frequency). Thx

    Posée par: Mchamp
Hi, I used it to cover a kitchen my island, and it worked very well. Painting is also easy and applies well as this product comes pre primed. I used Sico kitchen and Cabinet paint, that I got at Lowes and it seems to hold up. I would make sure for a backsplash to caulk to seal the edges well as this material is not water resistant and quite absorbent. The paint should seal the rest.

Could this be painted with a water/weather proof product to be used as the ceiling material under a solid surface deck?

    Posée par: Mothra
MDF is not recommended for exterior use and in environments where they may contact moisture. Water can penetrate from face, sides, ends as well as the unprimed back if there is leak on the ceiling material. Water/weather proof products don’t usually make a surface 100% impermeable

Does this need to be installed over gyproc, **to meet code**?

    Posée par: arron
Because the product is only 3/8'' thick (9 mm), it could be fragile on wall without gyproc. However we do not need to plaster the gypse. Otherwise, it could be a installed on ceiling without gyproc.

Can this product be applied on a ceiling and, if so, what is the best method of attaching it? ie: finishing nails, screws or?

    Posée par: Alfie1947
Yes this product can be applied on ceiling, and because the product locks together, board will be fixed together with no visible nail. Finishing nails are required on one side and the lapping and lock (tongue and groove) on the other side of the board will hide the nail and secure the product on ceiling. This is the perfect shiplap for a ceiling.
