Rated 4 de 5 de par Good service, acceptable performance. For a tow-behind aerator, this is likely the best you'll find. It has a good width, to cover a lot of ground faster than you could with a rental (walk behind) aerator, and 12 spoon wheels, each with 4 spoons, to get a reasonable density of plugs per pass. The penetration depth, advertised as up to 3 inches, was more like 1-1/2 inches, due to the aerator riding on the wheels when lowered for aerating. I'll take a look sometime to see if this can be improved. The aerator was easy to assemble, but one of the two tow bars was missing from the box (possibly fell out during shipping). Brinley-Hardy, who apparently makes this for John Deere, was quick to ship the missing part to me with no additional cost. Good service!

Rated 5 de 5 de par Dollar for dollar, it's a pretty good machine Had her up and running in less than 40 mins. Deeply moist soil and six concrete blocks on the tray are a must for aerating success. Pretty strong build for the price. JD should have added 2-4 more tines per tine wheel for smoother aerating, but hardly a serious draw back. Making 2 perpendicular passes I pulled out 3-4" plugs on irrigated lawn. 27 hp exmark pulled it with ease. We will see how it holds up to 50 hrs of use per year.

Rated 4 de 5 de par sturdy, easy to use. very effective. We bought this for our football field and it works very well. The ground was too hard the first time we used it. The next time it was damp and it worked great. You need to putt weight on it, 100 lbs or more to be effective. This is relative to the grounds hardness. We were paying $300 per aeration, so this was a great money saver!

Rated 4 de 5 de par Great product, horrible packaging Received this aerator yesterday. Had shipped to home. Box was tore in several places. Aerator was dinged and dented in a few spots from shipping apparently. A few bolts and nuts were missing. Went and bought some to replace. One wheel is a little crooked. The bracket may need to be bent back out some. I understand that it is a heavy product. But for what it costs you would think that they could ship it in a heavier box and more padding. The aerator works as it should. Pulled out 2-3" plugs. I used 4x8x16" solid concrete blocks, that added just under 200 lbs for extra weight. Pulled behind john deere z445 zero turn. Other than packaging i would reccomend this product. If you are on the fence on which aerator to buy. This is the heaviest that i have found. Didnt wanna buy a cheap one that probably wouldnt last. Hopefully this one lasts like it should.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Works great, thick metal, very durable. Everything good except packaging. Everthing comes in a big box with little or no material to keep parts from banging against each other. Paint is damaged on everything from this. I expect more from JD for the price of the product! Quality would;ve been excellent if it weren't for this.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Works well, time will tell with durability. This unit is heavier built than the similar 48" unit from same manufacturer under their name. This JD unit has extra support braces from tray down to axle to support the heavier weight as rated. I have done about three acres so far with 6 12" concrete blocks as ballast, about 235#. The specifications here on Home Depot say the depth of penetration is NOT adjustable, but that is not correct. The wheels can be set to lift the tines well off the ground for transport and can be fully raised for maximum penetration (lever below lower pin) or placed in 3 alternate positions for partial penetration (lever on the lower pin, lever between the two pins, level on upper pin, and lever resting on top of upper pin. In the "higher" positions the wheels support the tines above max depth. With the designed tine spacing, the tines are very close to the outer walls supporting the main axle and this can cause a bind in sharp turns due to turf tearing and jamming that tine set, causing it to did a trench instead of turning. Re-arranging the time sets and how some tines are attached to the tine plates can resolve that, but a response to a question above says such may void warranty. To get a better core aerator, the cost skyrockets for one to fit a larger 3 pt hitch tractor or Ventrac tractor. Rooster

Rated 5 de 5 de par Wish it had been on sale. Does a great job with enough added weight and if yard is somewhat moist. Easy to assemble and use. Easy to clean. Might be a little expensive but better than hiring the job done. You'll need a place to store it.

The raise/lower mechanism for the tines is well designed and easy to work. I assembled it in about 30 minutes, hooked it up to my Deere, placed 6 cinder blocks in it and my wife proceeded to quickly aerate the lawn. It follows well on the hitch, and does not require much additional driving skill either forward or backward. The tires and axles are clearly a cost savings design, but they are adequate for the job, even when fully loaded. This is standard John Deere-well made, functional, general solid....and overpriced. But if you go cheaper, you generally just get poorly made press metal garbage that is incomplete and requires 5 additional trips to the store to actually use.

can you tow this thing in reverse for short distances?

i have a million trees and would likely need to reverse here and there. thanks.
Posée par: moogy
If you disengage the aerator you can tow it in any direction you want. I would not recommend reversing with the aerator engaged.

John Deere Core Aerator 48 inches-question

My core aerator does a great job on the large sections at the 48 inch set-up. My problem leading to my question is that I have sections of my yard that 48 inches is too wide resulting in those areas not getting the level of aeration it needs. My question is if it is possible to remove tines or perform temporary adjustments that would allow my using the 48" as a 40" so the few smaller areas can also be core aerated. I would be greatful for any help you are able to provide me. I eagerly await your response.
Posée par: Dale
Thank you for your question. We do not recommend removing tines or making any chanages or modifications to the product for this could void the manufactures warranty.

Can this be used with 22hp ZTR mower?

Posée par: beauford
Hi beauford, Not all Zero Turn Radius mowers have the tow hooks available to attach this tow behind aerator. If your mower has the necessary hook to attach, or the capacity to add one, this aerator can be towed. Keep in mind that the turning capacity of a Zero Turn Mower can damage implements when turning. Also, consider the position of the engine's muffler when removing the hitch pin. The muffler will be hot. Thanks for asking. Travis
