Rated 1 de 5 de par Does NOT Detect NATUAL Gas We bought it for the very purpose of detecting natural gas as we already have carbon monoxide and smoke alarms. We could smell the natural gas coming from our furnace, but this device did NOT detect it. We had a professional come and detect the natural gas. Do not buy this device for detecting natural gas. It is useless for this purpose.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Nice unit The unit is exactly as you would expect. Most of these units are similar in size, so there isn't any real surprise there. It does exactly what I want it to do and the display is nice for piece of mind.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Kidde Plug-In Carbon Monoxide Alarm I found that the product was easy to install, and it clearly identifies that there are no unsafe gases, etc. It can be sensitive but this is likely a good thing. I found it went off when we had the entry door to the garage open. The only thing that I didn't like about it was when the batteries wore down, the alarm was so loud and at such a high pitch that it actually hurt your ears to get close to the alarm to pull out the batteries and pull it out of the wall plug.

Hi. I don't have a question. I just wanted to say thanks to the Kidde employee who posted such great detailed answers to others' questions about this product. I just bought one of these gas detectors partly based on that good product support. Well done!

where is the best place to plug in my kn coeg 3. no instruction manual in my packaging

Posée par: Anonyme
CO alarms should be installed outside you bedroom area so you can hear it when sleeping. CO just floats with the air, it does not sink or go up. As for explosive gases, the concentration needs to reach 1/4 of the minimum level for it to be dangerous, so 1% concentration in the gases of natural gas. Here is the web address for the manual: http://www.kiddecanada.com/ResidentialandCommercial/Pages/Propane-NaturalGasandCOAlarm.aspx. Any questions, call the hotline 1-800-880-6788.

alarm sounds shows gas when no gas present

model# KN-COEG-3
Posée par: Anonyme
There are 2 possibilities for the word "GAS" to appear. - The word “GAS” only? This means that a combustible gas has been detected at a concentration that is approximately 25% of its minimum level to be “explosive” (natural gas has an LEL of 4% so the alarm would sound at 1% concentration). Combustible gases are not limited to natural and propane gas but also include aerosols, kitchen and bathroom cleaners, perfumes, scented candles and even diaper pails and cat litter boxes. As well, the odorant added to natural and propane gas can be smelled by the average human at about 10 parts per billion – about a thousand times faster than the alarm will react. - Both a number in the 200s and the word “GAS”? This is a test. If you press the test button, it will perform the same program. CO detection is based on a concentration over time measurement (it simulates the absorption rate into the human body) and thus the alarm is taking samples continuously and comparing it to earlier readings (up to 30 days). At the same time, the unit performs an internal test of its systems once per minute. If the environmental conditions around the unit change rapidly or reach extremes (i.e. quick temperature drop of as little as 3 degrees Celsius in minutes, high relative humidity/condensation), the unit could decide to self-test further to make sure the sensors are also working properly. You can avoid this by ensuring the alarm is installed in a central location of the house away from the kitchen, bathrooms, doors, windows and any fuel burning appliance. If your thermostat is set to drop the temperature overnight for energy savings, try a lesser setting. A good vacuuming to remove any dust will also help. If you have any further problems or questions, please call the Kidde hotline at 1-800-880-6788

failure code "err" and number "009" shown in unit.

What does this mean? Was working w/o any trouble until now starting chirping all 30 seconds. It is a KN CO..3

Your alarm has reached the end of its lifespan. until 2013, CSA approved a maximum of 7 year lifespan for CO alarms from Kidde. (some manufacturers only have 5 years). Have a look at the date of manufacture on the back. it is likely at least 7 years old. You will notice in stores now that Kidde has some CO alarms with a 10 year lifespan (and warranty). this is new as of 2014 only.

How well will the system work just with battery power? How long would the batteries last approximate?.

Posée par: Anonyme
This alarm is not designed to work on battery power only except in emergencies (power failures). The battery will last 24-48 hours depending on its age and original capability. For locations without power, the real danger is CO - significantly more than propane and natural gas since they come with an odorant and small concentrations are not explosive. Small amounts of CO over long periods of time are as dangerous as higher level in minutes. In this situation, get a digital display battery powered CO alarm. This way you can know if CO is present at low level and before it gets dangerous.

Is it actually an effective propane alarm?

Posée par: Anonyme
Is the alarm effective? yes - though you need to understand what it is looking for. The 900-0113-05, CO and explosive gas alarm, has the same detection system as our other CO alarms. They measure for the presence of CO and simulate the absorption rate into the human body. They will sound at 70 ppm if exposed for 60 - 240 minutes. Faster at higher concentrations. The Gas alarm components operate by measuring for an explosive gas constantly (thus needs to be plugged in all the time which means the battery will not last many days if there is a power failure). It seeks out anything that can burn and figures out its LEL (Lower Explosive Level - meaning the minimum concentration needed for the gas to ignite if there is an ignition source) and it will alarm at about 25% of the LEL. For natural gas, LEL is about 4%, so the alarm will sound at about 1% concentration. Please note however that the alarm cannot differentiate one combustible gas from another, thus will sound for perfumes, aerosols, scented candles and anything else combustible in the same way as natural gas and LPG - by displaying the word GAS and sounding continuous beeps (CO alarm is 4 beeps with pauses). This unit is not recommended for RVs and non utility serviced cottages. Small generators will damage this unit as they tend to have square power waves. For RVs and cottages, we recommend a battery only CO alarm with digital display. CO is by far the most dangerous component this alarm will warn you about. Never leave you CO alarm unpowered (they lose the ability to detect if unpowered) or over winter as they do not operate below 4 Celsius.

Continually screams low batt even with new battery change multiple times???

Posée par: Anonyme
Unfortunately you did not describe what the digital display was showing you. Was it "Lb" or something else? Please contact our tech support line at 1-800-880-6788 and make sure you have your alarm with you as they will need the exact model number, manufacturing date and the mesage from the display.
