I'd recommend this product to a person with a drop in style stove top which it's designed for. It still takes up a huge amount of space however under the stove. The intent in my build was to revers the air-box and keep the blower in the wall behind the unit. Poor decision. The directions are not clear unless you have the unit in front of you and you try and do the steps, then it becomes very clear that if you put the huge 10" air-box on the other side, you are still left with a large air-box about half the size on the front side that hides the motor that raises and lowers it. This product is NOT for a self standing stove. It can not be "reversed" to do so.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Very poor performance. I have had this product for less than a year and already it has been replaced completely under the warranty. The second one still 'sticks' when in elevation mode and doesn't come up all the way - this will probably have to be replaced too. It's noisy when the extractor fans are turned on and it doesn't remove cooking odors, steam, fumes etc. which is the whole point of having it - our venting system is excellent - there are no blockages - so why doesn't the downdraft suck away fumes etc? I would NOT recommend this product to anyone - along with my new Kitchenaid 48" built-in, side-by-side refrigerator - the ice maker has been replaced once already and now the new one has ceased to work - we're waiting for a new 'shoot' - meanwhile - no ice also less than a year old!

Rated 1 de 5 de par Unreliable, barely used and broken twice already We purchased this new 2/2015. We hardly cook we just like this product for it's looks and matches all our other SS kitchenaid appliances. Thought it was a cool system how it can hide itself away when not being used. Well this unit quit working around 1/2016, just right before the warranty expired. We called KA customer service and was able to arrange repair. The whole repair process took TWO MONTHS. First they ordered parts, waited on the parts, and came back for repair when parts came in. Ooops, they ordered wrong parts. Then they ordered MORE parts and told us everything on back order for weeks. Finally got through the repair process and unit worked like new. Well that lasted less than six months. Just found out tonight that the unit quit working again. Does not stay up, vent would not shut off, etc. And now we are out of warranty. We've turned this unit on literally less than 30 times in the year and half we owned this. What a piece of junk and KA should be ashamed of their poor quality.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Failed after 1 year I have been using this unit for a little over 1 year (the warranty period), cleaning the filters regularly -- the only maintenance required according to the manual. Yesterday while cooking Thanksgiving dinner it simply stopped working. Now the blower only works at an extremely low level that is useless. Representatives at KitchenAid said things like "components do deteriorate or fail," "any part can break," "things can go haywire," "there is no quality issue with this product," and so on. I say: it's junk.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Has not seen a single meal cooked in front of it! This product did what several reviewers said it did. On installation, had problems going up and down! Pulled 1 filter and it retracted and stopped responding completely! I have family coming for Thanksgiving and have no idea how to fix or who to call! So far not impressed! Please contact me today KitchenAid! I just put all kitchenaid products in my kitchen. Please don't make me regret!

Rated 2 de 5 de par Nice but doen't raise up We like the retractable vent system; however, the vent won't go up. The filter popped out after cleaning as the unit was going down. Now I can't raise the vent to put the filter back in. Electricity is going to the system. The manual says the system won't work without the filter engaging a microswitch and I can't raise it to put the filter back in.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Wasn’t sure how I would feel about this.... [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So I watch a lot of home improvement shows, and I keep seeing episodes of Property Brothers where they go into the “before” house and these pop-up downdraft systems are talked about as being real pains in the butt and something that will be replaced. Then they do the remodel and they move the stove to a more traditional location with a hood. During the build phase of our custom home I changed the location of the cooktop probably 5 times. Under the window, on the island, then back to the window...finally our builder said “make a final decision - we need the gas and water lines installed.” So it remained in the island. We’re in an area that does not require a range hood, which is good because there was no way I was going to have a range hood in the middle of my island! Talk about disrupting my beautiful open concept design. The appliance store recommended the downdraft as an option, again not required, and after doing some research my husband decided he wanted it. I honestly didn’t care on way or the other. It’s fine. It does what it’s supposed to do. But it’s loud. The KitchenAid dishwasher makes not a sound but this thing drowns out the TV and any conversation. I use it if I’ve got more than just one pot on the stove but I use it and put it back down pretty quick.

Rated 1 de 5 de par cheaply made, will break within 12 months Purchased this with the KAID wall oven and KAID Stove top AND refrigerator. The fan motor broke 13 months after it was installed. We spent a ton on a remodel on the kitchen and the appliances in particular were treated with kid gloves as they aren't cheap. We went with Kitchen Aid stainless steel for everything. After spending more than $4k in appliances we called KA about the now non-functioning fan where I was essentially told they could care less- not an exaggeration. Rushed off the phone and given the number to a repairman for us to foot the bill. To get the fan fixed was roughly half the cost we spent on it (fan was $900). I suspect groups like Consumer Reports while having the best intentions, simply aren't using appliances for every day use and really don't know how well made household appliances are. If you read the user reviews, more often that not, you'll find this to be case. Learn from our mistakes and don't use Kitchen Aid.
