Rated 5 de 5 de par Nice Design Replaced old basket strainer with this one. What a difference, in quality and design. Old strainer was stamped thin gage Stainless steel with a zinc diecast locking ring. This on is made in a brass casting machined and chrome plated. It is a very solid unit. The nice thing about it is the machined brass locking ring. You install it by hand tightening it and lock it in place with three screws that lock the theads in place. Then tailpiece is quality 17 ga plated brass, that will last forever. Hint: If you have to remove an existing zinc locking ring, cut and pry it off, trying to unthread it is a waste of time. This is worth the price for the quality.

Excellent quality and finish, but low-quality o-ring seal at base of basket strainer In October 2011, I installed the KOHLER K-8801-VS Duostrainer Sink Strainer and tail pipe in Vibrant Stainless, into the left side of a Artisan double basin sink installed in my kitchen. The strainer is weighty, and the quality and finish is excellent, but the skinny o-ring seal at the bottom of the strainer basket that allows you to fill the sink with water has stretched out, won't stay seated on the base of the strainer, and is in need of replacement. Other than the low-quality o-ring, I'm satisfied witht his sink strainer, and recommend it to others. I'll contact Kohler and seek a replacement o-ring pursuant to the warranty.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Leaks, I hate it when something doesn’t perform the simple thing like it’s supposed to just because some bean counter decided they could make a few more cents by changing to a little o-ring. The strainer with the tiny little o-ring seal has to be set just right or it leaks, you can wipe off the o-ring & seating surface so there is nothing on it to prevent its seating properly, play with it until you think it’s perfectly seated, fill the sink, walk away, come back a few min. later and the sink is empty. I’m seeing the same comments about leaking by others, I know sometimes it’s operator error but it’s not supposed to be that hard to get a drain stopper to seal.

Rated 4 de 5 de par I grew up in the Midwest and have always appreciated... I grew up in the Midwest and have always appreciated Kohler quality. I replaced a drain basket on my sink that had a corroded collar nut. The previous installer must have had similar problems to my own. I tried to replace just the nut but fit up was poor and gasket wouldn’t align properly. I opted to replace with this strainer. Kohler is heavier weight provides easy installation and almost all parts fit perfectly. I would give it 5 stars but I would like a product in which the strainers fits and seals solidly in the drain. It seems like I am always jiggling these strainer baskets around trying to get a good seal.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Works well with the Kohler Staccato sink Looks great and was more substantial than the generic version available for sale at HD. That said, it cost 4x as much. Not sure it's worth it but too late now! FYI, they little screw that holds the drain stopper together came out within a day of install. Almost lost it down the drain. That was disappointing. Do I have to keep a screwdriver by the sink to tighten it every day? I hope not. I expect a bit better from Kohler for forty bucks.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Problems with O-Rings The standard drains I got would not seal properly around the bottom of the top of the line Kohler Cast Iron Ceramic Sink due to some irregularity in the sink drain holes. To correct that problem and keep your cabinets dry, you must buy one these drains which are specially made for the Kohler Cast Iron Ceramic Sink. That is when you run into a second problem: The strainers have an O-Ring that appears to be mismatched -- it does not want to stay on the drain plug, so now the sink won't stay plugged, and you risk loosing the O-Ring which is constantly slipping off.

What is the tail piece for. I don't know which one I will purchase with or without a tail piece>

You will need a tail piece to allow for proper transition from the strainer basket into the plumbing pipe drain. A slip joint nut with nylon washer will slide down the pipe, threading onto the threaded plumbing pipe [metal or PVC] and tighten, causing the nylon washer to flatten and seal the connection for water tight seal. Although you might be able to reuse your existing strainer tail piece to save some money, most are worn and have a level of corrosion within from use. The Kohler tail piece is very good quality and matches up perfectly to the strainer drain opening.

I am buying Kohler 24" 16gauge undermount stainless single sink. I would like to use strainer and have garbage disposal installed underneath. Could kindly point to what items to buy other than disposal itself. I am handy but havn't done this config.
