Rated 4 de 5 de par Love Kreg Tools Love the tool. 4 stars instead of 5 for inconvenience. The description of the 5MM shelf pin Jig says that the 5mm drill bit is included. So I place a BOPUS (buy online pick up in store) order for the jig and two boxes of 5mm shelf pins. I live about 30 minutes from the HD store. My wife was in town that day so I asked her to go by and pick it up. I get it out of the box to use it and it only has a 1/4 inch bit, which it says right on the front. It doesn't say 5mm Shelf Pin Jig on the box, just Shelf Pin Jig. The instructions say, also works with 5mm bit (sold separately). One star deduction cause I gotta drive 30 minutes each way to exchange my 5mm pins for 1/4".

Rated 1 de 5 de par REALLY disappointed in this product I have a number of Kreg tools/jigs, and have loved every single one of them, until now. I've also received great service, until now. This product just does not deliver. I bought the 5mm, and the holes created with the 5mm drill bit are just too big for 5mm shelf pins. It's not as if they are just loose, they are sloppy loose, like fall-out-of-the-hole, loose. I tested 1/4" pins to see if those would work, but the holes are too small for the larger pins. I contacted Kreg via phone, and was told basically that that was just how it is. Pretty much, "all shelf pin holes are loose". I don't buy it. Unfortunately, I bought this.

Rated 2 de 5 de par Good Guide if Bit was Straight I have the same issue as mentioned by Andrew2020 in an earlier review. The 5mm bit that comes with the kit is not straight. This causes the bit to wobble and ultimately makes for a loose fit with the pins. Apparently this is a common problem with the 5mm bits. Being a Mechanical Engineer with 25+ years experience, my opinion is that it probably comes from the manufacturing process. It appears as if they start with the 1/4" bit and then turn it down to 5mm on the tip. If quality control is not super tight you will get this type of defect from numerous process variables. I would just switch to the 1/4" bit if I had not of already purchased hundreds of 5mm shelf pins.

Issue I had was that the bit right out of the box was bent and would not drill straight. This caused the jig to move and made it difficult to keep aligned. It is a special bit and required me to return the whole jig back to the store. None of the Home Depots in my area had it in stock and would have had to ship. I just came up with another option for drilling this project. Kreg typically has good products so I was surprised to have this issue. Disappointing. HD took it back with no problem so I was grateful for that.

Included Drill bit (5mm) is extremely sharp and makes work quick and neat. When turning jig to do the opposite side, holes are not exact but are so close it is not noticed when shelves are in place. I suppose I should give it 4 stars but I am so pleased with it, I have to give it 5 (and I have to consider the slight difference may be due to my construction !). I am a 75 yr-old woman and am making a hidden shelf rack to go behind a full-length mirror. Purchased the jig for this purpose last month (ordered Mar 28 and received via free shipping on Apr 2) and just used a couple of days ago. Pictures are of the 5 foot frame with some shelves placed just for the photo--ready to stain or paint if I ever make up my mind. For those of you who ask if the jig can be used with a 1/4in drill bit, the answer is yes. The pin guide included is 5mm on one end and 1/4in on the other so you do not need anything extra to use this kit with your 1/4in drill bit. I was so pleased with this, I bought the Kreg Crown Pro Molding Tool but haven't used it yet. (Slow worker)

When it came time to build some cabinets that needed shelving, the Kreg shelf pin jig seem like a no-brainer. Unfortunately the product lacks some features that would make me recommend it. While the layout of the holes is symmetrical on the jig (good, as the jig needs to be flipped for opposite sides), there are no reference marks on the side of the jig to center a hole over a line. I think this would be a really useful feature, and I don't quite understand why something as simple as a reference mark on the jig is not included. So, I suggest before you do any critical drilling of holes is get the jig centered on a line, and place a mark on the edge of the jig to aid in alignment. Clamping. I originally tried to use a squeeze clamp , but found the force of the drill can move the jig out of alignment. I suggest going to a C-type clamp as you will need the additional force to keep the jig from moving. Lastly, the drill bit is really horrible. This is pretty well documented on one of the major online retailers. It bites rather aggressively and can tear up plywood. I would suggest going to a good quality quarter-inch bit (non-Brad point). I had much better results that way. On my first project I was using finish plywood, and the jig pretty much ruined the wood. it wasn't a case of just sanding down the high spots. The bit was so aggressive it actually pulled some of the inner plies towards the surface and created a hill . If I was to try to sand them out I would go right through the veneer. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a brand-new, good quality bit. It will save you headaches believe me! I like the fact that the jig has a place for the drill bit on the back, and a built-in depth stop, but seems like they could've went a little further and made a place for the Allen wrench for the stop collar. That's one of those items that tends to get lost. Lastly, I would say to insert your bit three quarters of the way into the jig, then make sure your drill is on high speed before you start boring. This will prevent tear out. The best advice I could probably give is to practice on some scrap first. This jig is not quite as straightforward as it would seem. I would also suggest if you've got a really tall cabinet is to cut some scraps of wood to align the jig as opposed to using a measuring tape. It's really easy to get make a mistake measuring the distance from the bottom of a cabinet to the bottom of the jig. The stop block ensures the jig will remain accurately aligned. Again, make sure you use a C-type clamp, and not one of the spring type clamps. They are not strong enough. I think this jig can produce excellent results if you replace the drill bit with a better quality one, and take the time to make yourself some stop blocks to align the jig.

Bought this mainly for shelf pin holes in a new pantry I built for our kitchen remodel. But I am sure I will be using it for many other projects. As many others have said, this is incredibly easy to use. I did watch a video and read the directions a bit, just to be sure, but you could figure it out just by messing around. Put 4 sets of holes, with about 30 holes each in the pantry and they were all dead on level. Shelves sit perfectly. Also nice it comes with different ways of using it, such as up against a rail or just on the edge of a board. Even though it's plastic, the plastic is pretty heavy duty and the drill holes have metal inserts, so sure this will last a long time. My only criticism is the drill bit that comes with it does not leave the cleanest holes, least it did not for me. I'll be looking for a better bit, if they are out there. One other thing, it's very handy that most everything has spots in the back of the jig for storing the parts of the jig, all except the allen wrench to tighten the stop collar for the drill bit. Guess they forgot. :)

I already have bought this kit and i like it but i need more jigs to drill more holes at once. Can i buy just the jig without the bit and other stuff?

All i need is probably two more jigs and adapters to have three jigs in all put together?
Posée par: Newt
It only comes a kit. You can combine multiple jigs together. I brought two kits and combined them to give me a chance to do 12 holes at a time for a small bookshelf project. You can combine as many as you need as each kit come with the hardware to attach to another kit.

How deep of a hole does it make? Can it be used on 1/2" plywood?
Posée par: tj4
Yes, there is a collar that sets the depth of the hole. The standard length of the shelf pin will help determine the depth.

loved how easy this was to set up and use. However i had alot of splintering in the holes. I am drilling into 3/4 plywood. Any suggestions? I have tried going fast and going slow. Can't seem to get a smooth hole unless i switch to a normal drill bit. Any help would be appreciated
Posée par: jerry
I found that if I pushed the drill into the wood too hard I got more splinters. Lightly pushing caused less splinters. Might also be a full bit??? However Rockler sells a shelf pin sleeve to hide a less than perfect hole while giving a polished and professional look to your piece. Good luck and hope it turns out how you had envisioned

I see the box says 1/4" compatible So this will work with1/4" drill bit??

This kit includes 5 mm drill bit
Posée par: Dorunrun
Yes, this jig is the exact same as the 1/4" model. The only difference is the drill but used. The item number from Kreg is KMA3215. The bushing in the jig are 1/4" so if you are drilling 5mm holes the drill bit is actually 1/4" with the end stepped down to 5mm.
