So this is unit is quite powerful and remarkably quiet, in that it produces significantly lower decibels than any of the other four portable ACs I've owned. But the type of noise it makes is different -- where for other portable ACs the most noticeable sound is a sort of rattling, with this unit what's more noticeable is the the high-pitched whine of the compressor. It's so high-pitched that I found it almost painful to hear. I returned the first one of these I bought thinking it might be a one-off defect, but the second unit I tried had the same issue. Ultimately I think the value of this unit turns entirely on how sensitive one is to that high-pitched whine.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Efficient I have an old farm house, and the upstairs was unbearably hot over summer months. I bought this and it made a big difference for the upstairs... when it was new it worked almost too well, it was super super cold and would even cool off the lower level of the house a few degrees. Now that I have used it for a month it isn’t quite as cold, I find myself leaving it on the coldest setting and giving it more time running before bedtime... it’s also August now so the nights aren’t as hot as they were. My energy bill did increase, but maybe $50/month more for running this thing constantly- I expected it to cost more to run so that was a pleasant surprise.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Water needs to be drained every 2 hours I have been using this AC for about a week, and I have to drain the water every two hours, otherwise the machine shuts down... I thought it had self evaporation system, but I guess I was misinformed... I live in Vancouver and I don't think it's THAT humid... I have used different brand and I had never had to drain the water from the AC and I used it for 4 years... My friends also told me they have never drained the water from their portable ACs... so I am not sure if mine is defective or it's just how it's built... Other than the water issue, it works good. Wifi feature is really handy. Relatively quiet.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Was Sceptical I was really on the fence about this Portable A/C. I have seen horrid reviews, fair reviews and good reviews. I decided on this A/C because the window kit although not perfect fits my 52 inch window and the SACC rating is currently the highest on the market. I bought the 2 year warranty just in case but if this thing keeps working the way it does I may buy 3 more and turn off my central air. I work exclusively from home in an office that is basically a mini datacenter. And this LG dropped the temp in the room to a freezing 68 degrees in an hour. I even turned it up to 69 because I was freezing. A little expensive but so far worth it.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Very short exhaust duct I just bought this fairly expensive machine, but it came with an extremely short exhaust duct. It is impossible to connect it to a standard 3ft above the ground window while curving it as the manual demonstrates and while respecting the 50cm distance from the wall. After over an hour on the phone with LG customer service, they told me to contact the parts department to order a extension duct. After another hour on the phone, the parts department told me that the extension duct will only be available at the end of the summer. So I am not stuck with a machine that I can neither use nor return. Thank you LG!

I stumbled upon an unbiased video review of the LG duel inverter. I went to reviews and was almost ready to buy but the 1 and 2 star reviews made me question it for a minute. All I can tell you from my experience is to ignore those reviews because it cannot get better than this. (Unless it falls apart after a year) this unit is first and foremost COLD (60*). It is also QUIET (duel inverter). It also happens to be easy to install and attractive. I haven’t seen the electricity bill yet but I will deal with it in order to be able to sleep soundly at night. I hope they never stop making these. Go buy one now and you will not be disappointed!

Rated 1 de 5 de par Doesn't blow cold air I bought this a/c a few days ago and it is blowing cool air not cold. It is only the beginning of May and we are not yet in the summer months, therefore this a/c will not be able to withstand the hot summer months as what it is intended for. Contacted LG and they opened a ticket but informed me to contact Home Depot (the seller) about this a/c not performing up to standards. However, Home Depot is not taking returns because of the Ontario wide lockdown. So I am currently stuck with an unusable a/c and cannot get my money back because of the no return policy currently in affect because of the lockdown.

I have run other portable units in the past, and I have to say this one is a lot quieter than anything else I have used. I was surprised how cold the air is coming out of this unit compaired to others I have owned. It dropped the temp in my 20'x20' living room by 8 degrees in under an hour. I am a bit dissapointed with the cord length, nut other than that this is a great product. It comes with everything other that clear weather stripping tape to seal your window off. Usually you have to purchase everthing separately.

What does it mean, must be vented through a window? Does it mean you cannot just put it in a room, plug it in and turn it on? Point of getting a protable air conditioner for us would be NOT to have to vent it through a window. If we have to do that, why not get a window air conditioner? Please explain. Thanks.

No one answered part of your question, so I wanted to answer: what’s the point of a portable ac. You’re right that it requires venting our a window just like a window unit. The difference though is some folks have windows that are too small to fit a window ac. Others have windows that slide left and right to open/close. Traditionally, a window ac requires a window that slides up and down, so that after you put in the window ac, you can slide the window down over top of it to hold it in place. With a portable ac, instead of a whole ac going in the window sill, you just have a hose out the back side of the ac. That hose still needs to be fixed in place such that it blows out the window, but that’s a lot easier for some people to do if they have a non-traditional or small window.

The instructions state vent through window. Is there anything that would prohibit venting through the floor for this product?
Posée par: Janey
I have used a couple different portable air conditioners in a upstairs bedroom closet. I removed the attic access panel, made another panel same size, with a hole cut to fit the exhaust hose into, and it has worked fine for years. No difference in cooling output compared to using the window exhaust frame. Hot air goes into attic and is vented thru soffits and ridge vents. I wouldn’t see a problem with venting thru floor as long as there’s a crawl space that has a vent to let warm air out.

how often do you have to drain the water?

Posée par: AJ in Vancouver
I have had to drain this unit on average every 1-2 hours since i bought it. It has been a huge pain as the unit shuts down completely until it is drained. I will be looking for an exchange unit as others don't seem to have the same problems. I live in Vancouver.

My window does not open very high. Could you please tell me the height of the window insert? I only see the width in all of the product descriptions.

Posée par: Loiloi
The window installation kit allows you to install the air conditioner in most vertical-sliding windows 23" to 60" wide or horizontal-sliding windows from 23" to 60" high. The actual product dimensions are (WxHxD) 19.41 x 30.43 x 18.11 inches. ^Jennifer

Why can’t you use an extension cord?

Posée par: Kurt
Most AC units draw a lot of amps and have a 3-prong GFI unit built into the plug. Because of this, most people will use the wrong style extension cord. While not factory recommended, If you absolutely must use an extension cord, use a 3 prong cord that is in 100% working shape. 14 gauge if you are under 50 feet, 12 gauge if over 50 feet. Keep the GFI unit off the ground.

I would like to use what used to be a dryer vent pipe (metal) to exhaust this air conditioner. Is this possible?

Posée par: Linda
Hi Linda, if the vent from your older dryer fits the A/C, there's no reason you can't use it. Typically however, Dryer vents have a slightly small diameter for the vents so it may require a bit of retrofitting to fix it to the A/C.

What is the width of the end of the exhaust? I already have a plastic window with a 6 inches hole in it and would like to use it because no instalation kits fit in my windows.

Posée par: Guillaume
Hi Guillaume, thanks for your interest in our product. The exhaust's diameter is just under 6inches.

Can this unit be used next to a patio door to the balcony ? Do I need to buy a panel kit for the hose ?

Posée par: Ken W
Yes you would need a panel kit for the patio door (if they make one). It only comes with a window kit. The hose it comes with is also quite short so it wouldn’t hurt
