Rated 4 de 5 de par Did what it said it would. It was longer than I envisioned (goes at least 2 1/2 feet into the ground), but realistically just the right size. I was putting up a tree house in an area with lots of large tree roots. This allowed me to go between the roots in a place where digging a sufficient hole would have been impossible. I couldn't screw it down very far to start even with help, but after a six inch rain, it easily screwed in completely and I have a lovely bird house perched just where I want it. The post does appear to be quite sturdy, but I would not use it where it would be frequently jolted or subjected to sideways pressure, such as a gate post versus just a fence post or mailbox post.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Almost as good as I hoped Received in 2 days-super. Claims to be galvanized but had surface rust inside. Came with 5 way-too-small screws to fasten post. I drilled the top and bottom front holes through the post and back of the bracket (use clamps) for 5/16" carriage bolts (galv.). Then it was very strong. Very easy to screw into the ground but hard to get exactly straight. Used a large pipe wrench to do last 1/2 turn, bringing the bottom of the bracket to ground level. Why not put the driving holes into the post bracket instead of the screw? I only used this with a 4 x 4, not an outer sleeve. Good for handy person but not for beginner.

Not in a mood for digging and concrete work so I found this at Home Depot online. Took less than a week to receive it in the store and wow, it's incredibly well made and strong! Had it installed with a Gibraltar cedar post and it feels much stronger than the skinny aluminum post I had before. The ground was wet from the rains in the previous couple days and the post screwed right in pretty nice and tight. It's galvanized so should last much longer than plain steel anchors. Another huge benefit is that if it is knocked over again it probably could be reinstalled easily. Kudos to Mayne!

Rated 4 de 5 de par Solid ground anchor We have a lot of clay. I used the hole from the previous small "pound in" anchor as the pilot hole. It would have been very difficult to start without some kind of pilot hole. The supplied piece of rebar is a bit understated. I added a 3.5 ft length of pipe over it for added leverage. The last two turns of the screw would not have gone without the added leverage of the pipe. The supplied rebar actually bent quite a bit with the required force. As noted by others, it is a bit tricky to keep vertical. I was able to adjust the 4x4 for the slight shift off vertical. In place it is very solid and should last a long time. The supplied lag bolts worked well. The 4x4 post does not move at all. A reasonable product. I would buy it again.

They were much sturdier and easy to use than I expected. Due to the ground shifting so much we installed a 4 x 4 from one ground screw to another for prevent the ground pulling away and causing the fence to shift instead of staying straight. This summer will tell us whether or not this worked. Either way I am sure that it will not be the fault of the No-Dig Ground Screw because it would have to break to cause a problem and we tested the hardness before wasting our time to install. We have only had these 1 month and in the ground with weight on them for 2 weeks.

I drilled three 5/8 inch holes through the asphalt with a hammer drill, broke the middle piece out with a crow bar, then screwed this product in. I couldn't believe how easy it was to do! and how solid it ended up! NOTE: We had to eventually use the 4' crow bar to screw it in as the piece of rebar included was short and we couldn't get enough leverage. Not a problem - but have a plan if you're going through a surface like asphalt.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Easy peasy This was an extremely simple product to install (especially since the ground was soft due to recent rains). I was able to reuse the existing 4x4 and bolt it to the metal bracket on the ground screw. I was worried about the stability but it seems to be holding up nicely so far. Only negative might be that mail post covers will not slip all the way down to the ground due to the protruding bolts. Overall, no mess and no fuss installation in lieu of all the digging and concrete pouring/setting etc.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Easy to install I bought this ground screw for my husband's Christmas present, a Hotel Bird House. It was delivered in no time at all. The hardest part about putting this in the ground was where did I put it. Having read previous reviews, I did wait to install this ground screw after a couple of days worth of rain. I really had no problem with the installation of the ground screw. The rebar that comes with the screw has an angle on it to give you leverage when screwing into the ground. It took a little muscle but it was no longer than a 5 minute effort. I tried to load a picture of the ground screw in the ground, HD says it's too large a pic for their site. You can see the ground screw on the bottom of the 4x4 post in the pic. The total height of the birdhouse is about 8 feet. We get very strong winds from the West at our home. It's still standing as I write this review.

what is the bearing weight on this post

Posée par: terry
Unfortunately, we can't speak to how well our products will perform outside of their intended use. Because our ground screw is not meant for any other application except our mail posts, we have not done weight bearing testing.

Can this application be used for a temporary sun shade?

Can this application be used for a temporary sun shade?
Posée par: Sylvie
Probably. You need to be able to screw it into the ground (Dirt). You can attach a 2x4 or 4x4 block to the top to mount the shade support shaft on or attach directly to the umbrella (or shade support mast).

could these be used to support two 7-ft 4x4s with a curtain strung between them on a steel cable?9

Posée par: Tom
Possibly. If you don't have anything connecting the posts at the top other than the cable (like a piece of wood), the posts may lean inward due to the weight of the curtain. Also, I would be sure to install these as far into the ground as possible, especially if in loose or sandy soil.

I would not. There are other anchors available for that specific purpose. You might want to check your local building code as well.
