[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] FORSTNER BIT SET WITH CASE (4-PIECE) I am very happy with this set it does exactly what I was looking for. It is very sharp and gives me a very nice clean hole. And these bits are very durable and give you the Perfect sized hole I was looking for do you give me a quality job. It’s very nice to have a case to come along with it to keep the bits in place.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Robust set of four Forstner drill bits (1/4", 1/2", 5/8". and 3/4") for hard or soft woods, plywood, or composites. These are very sharp and cut smooth, precise holes, as expected. I own a number of these from different manufacturers and am always surprised how often I reach for them -- drilling out a pilot hole to countersink a screw, drilling a hole for a magnet to hold a cabinet door against a strike plate, making holes to mount dowels in a drying rack, etc. It's nice to see Milwaukee bringing this offering to market, given their solid reputation for a good balance between price and performance. If you have a really high (i.e., commercial) volume of work, you might want to consider a carbide tipped option, but those are much more expensive. For everyday use, these are a great choice -- not inexpensive, but rugged, sharp, nicely finished, and come in a very robust snap-close case, as a bonus. Highly recommended.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Forstner bits are great for making a flat bottom hole to insert a dowel or other item into the wood piece that you are working on. Forstner bits amazingly need to be used at a lower RPM than other drill bits to avoid rip out and damage to your wood piece. They are best used in a drill press, and then need to be sharp. I have used other forstners that were cheaper, but they also did not work nearly as well. These Milwaukee bits are very sharp and they do the job just fine. I forgot to get a picture in action, but I used the 1/2 inch bit to install a dowel in a board to create drink carrier. I used a small bench top drill press at the low RPM. I would recommend having quality bits like this if you want quality results. This set comes with 4 of the more common smaller sizes that are handy to have in the shop.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Extremely sharp bits in a tough case. This Milwaukee set (model #48-14-0004) includes four sizes used commonly in woodworking. I wish it had the 3/8” but instead of the 5/8” but that's just personal preference. Each bit has its size engraved on the smooth shaft. I'd prefer the flat faces on the shafts for better grip in a chuck, especially for the larger bits as they are prone to slipping while cutting. Lots of Milwaukee bits and driver sets come in the same basic, tough-as-steel plastic case. As usual, the bits are held SECURELY in the case, making it a challenge to remove the bits for use, especially since the bits are so sharp. The price is steep since you can buy other high-quality bits individually, so part of the price is for the case. Still the quality of bits and case is undeniable, and the bits cut smooth clean holes in soft and hard woods (oak, cherry in my case).

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Product: Milwaukee 48-14-0004 is a 4 Piece Forstner Bit Set/Country of Origin: China///// Let me preface this review by saying that I'm not a fan of imported products...particularly tools, but this forstner bit set from Milwaukee bores smoothly. They appear to be well balanced and come in a sturdy plastic case. There are 4 bits to the set; 1/4", 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4". The machining on these bits is markedly clean and gives the appearance of a well-made product. This level of quality is especially notable given that this set isn't on the inexpensive side. At this price-point I expect a certain amount of stepped-up quality and attention to detail. I feel as though I got just that and I expect that you will too.

I make a lot of furniture and I like to drill out the bulk of mortises with forstner bits in a drill press, then clean the rest up with a chisel. These work really well for that purpose. Most of the time I'm not drilling a complete hole, but overlapping them. These stay true, don't wander or chatter, and leave really clean sides and bottoms. No problems in hardwoods or softwoods. I've never used the Milwaukee bits before, but I'm a convert now

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I use certain sized forstner bits quite a bit in woodworking; ½”, ¾”, and 35mm in particular. Prior to this kit all of my fortsner bits were Diablo and having used them extensively I was able to compare the Milwaukee ones to them. I drilled through holes and non-through holes with the ½” and ¾” bits from both brands in ¾” Maple Plywood, 4/4 Red Oak, 8/4 White Oak (drilled into the edge grain), Select Pine, and Southern Yellow Pine. Here are my observations with final thoughts at the end: SHAPE OF CUTTING HEAD: - Milwaukee has the traditional Knife Edge rim design and a more pronounced center point. Because of the Knife Edge design, the Milwaukee bits cut slower than the diablo - Diablo has the Wavy Edge rim design which cuts faster and the center point is smaller - Most of the following observations are directly attributable to the difference in the design of the rim and are not necessarily reflective of quality BORE – the smoothness of the bored walls are attributable to the type of rim design - Milwaukee – smoother bore - Diablo – more ridges within the bore TEAROUT – again, this is largely a function of the type of rim design. These holes were drilled with another sheet of plywood underneath - Milwaukee – less tearout, especially on plywood - Diablo - some tearout on plywood, very little on hardwoods and softwoods CUTTING SPEED: - Milwaukee – much slower – took twice as long on 4/4 material with noticeably greater effort to push the bit through - Milwaukee – was easier to control stopping depth due to lower cutting speed using a cordless drill - Diablo – cut through stock easily and quickly HOLE BOTTOMS: - Milwaukee – smoother bottom on non-through holes but with a deeper center point - Diablo – smooth but not as smooth as the Milwaukee DRILL BIT SHAFT: - Nice beefy design than is well balanced - No wobble CASE: - I really like the heavy duty case that comes with the Milwaukee bits – perfect for keeping in my bag when I’m not working in my shop FINAL THOUGHTS: - My preference is for the Wavy Edge rim design, not the Diablo over the Milwaukee. I like the increased speed and ease of cutting. - However – the Milwaukee Forstner Bits are high quality bits that work very well, especially without having to spend the money for higher end bits. - I will use bits from both brands depending on my needs. If I the hole will be visible then I will use the Milwaukee because of the smoother bore. If I am going to plug the hole then I will use the diablo. - I am very happy with the Milwaukee Forstner Bits. The steel and design of the shaft feel nice and are nice and beefy
