Of all the drill bits HomeDepot offeres these will cut the best through stainless steel, but they snap in half easily, more often than not the largest size bits will snap on the first use because they cut into the metal quickly and if you don't have a good solid grip on the drill the force will twist the drill and snap the bit. They also tend to burn out and dull easily. Last week we went through 2 sets of these drilling 20 holes in 1/4" steel, it was pretty frustrating. I sure wish HD would bring back the Milwaukee Black Oxide bits, they were only $14 a set and did a better job in steel than these (but not better in stainless)

Rated 2 de 5 de par NOT for hard metal Do not waste your money on these. I have given these drills numerous chances, and have bought multiples of several sizes. I am a knife maker, therefore I work with tough steel, but these drills cannot handle hard metals as advertised. I anneal (soften) all metal before I drill, because it is near impossible to drill if I don't. These drills only last 2 holes before they are finished, even though I step drill starting with 1/16. Honestly I use Dewalt's titanium drills, because I had an old pack in my garage and they last at least 5x longer. The HD near me only sells Milwaukee drills for titanium and cobalt which is a huge bummer because they're a waste of money.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Nice drills. But cheapened the set. Yet another example of cheapening what was a really nice set. In Home Depot, saw this set with a "New! Lower Price!," now $34.99 versus $44.99. So I picked it up and immediately realized what HD and Milwaukee had done: they removed the 1/2" drill bit and replaced it with an extra 1/16" drill bit. So, are they good bits? Yes. I have them, use them, like them. Is a good value? No. They lowered the price ten bucks, but the difference between the cost of a cobalt 1/2" and a cobalt 1/16" is $11, so actually they raised the price by a buck and presented it as a better deal, hoping you wouldn't notice. But I did. And as a result think just a little less of both brands.

The first time I used them (the day after I bought them) to drill hardened steel with a hand held 1/2 inch variable speed drill at a very slow speed as I researched how to drill hardened steel on the internet. The first bit (a small diameter one) broke as it was almost through the steel. I used every bit in ascending order and not one of the remaining bits managed to cut through the steel as they all dulled. I now have a $30 15 piece box of worthless junk. Save your money and go to a machine shop!!! That's what I did, I only wish I had done it in the first place, I wouldn't be out the money for the worthless drills.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Like butter.... [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] ....ok, so I realize that you have to use these for a few times to be able to comment on how effective and lasting they are so take this review w/ a grain of salt. I've only used them a few times. I did cut into some 1/8" thick aluminum and it cut through like butter. the bit didn't slip at all, cut right through and left a very clean hole. I took a video but can't seem to load it. Carrying case is nice too...I have another one that has a slide latch that is all jacked up, this one doesn't look like it'll do that but that's pretty minor. Overall, big fan of these bits.

Rated 5 de 5 de par works great I’ve had these bits for a couple weeks now and they have worked as expected on multiple types of metal. The case is very nice and functional. These bits are great at not walking when first starting and they get a good bite into metal. I haven’t had any break so far and they seem sharp still. These meet my expectations and I don’t have anything to dislike about them. Please hit thumbs up if this was helpful.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Very sharp and durable bits Purchased this set from my local store as I was working on a project where I needed holes in carbon and stainless steel that were clean holes without a lot of clean up afterwards. These are the sharpest and most durable bits I have ever used when it comes to drilling in steel. I drilled small holes, then reamed them with the next size up, and continued until I got to the size I needed. The results were exactly what I was looking for. While slightly more expensive than a black oxide bit, they are certainly worth while. I don't see myself buying any other type of bit after this, for drilling metals.

Rated 4 de 5 de par I purchase a nailer at the Lantana and jog HD,... I purchase a nailer at the Lantana and jog HD, it was a little too heavy and bulky.. so I went back to exchange it for Milwaukee nailer that’s in the Father’s Day add.. only to be told the nailer was not available in any stores until June 24th.. I was a little upset about the fact I getting the run around, I walked away toward the exit door, that’s when Scott walk up to my face saying I could not walk thought this door. I asked him to get out my way, while walking away, I overheard him saying to another customer (that’s why people don’t like his type) I love shopping at HD.. I‘ll just take my business elsewhere. Great product, crappy service.

A little bit more info for your woodworker, the bit you want for cast iron is the Thunderbolt Cobalt Drill Bits from Milwaukee as they are made for cast iron drilling

Can cobalt drool concrete?

Posée par: Scott
Do not use these on Concrete. The bit will become dull very quickly. Use Masonary bits for that.

do these drill bits contain M35 Cobalt and is that the highest percentage of cobalt in a bit

Posée par: mikey
These are the M35 or 5% Cobalt. If you need M42 (8%) Cobalt for Super Heavy Duty like drilling through an engine block on a regular basis use the heavy duty industrial IRWIN Drill Bits. They are 8% Cobalt but will cost much more. And are not sold at Home Dep.
