Rated 4 de 5 de par Good basic aerator This aerator is actually smaller than the picture shows. I was little surprised that the weight compartment is smaller, thinking it would not hold much weight. But one cinder block fits nicely. Frankly, putting a 20-30lb cinder block will load it enough for the job. It does very good job punching the ground. Yes, it is hard to push it but well soaked ground helps greatly. May not be good for large yards, but rather for those who like a challenge and keeping himself in shape. The metal is quite thick and solid, though watch for the pin that holds the blades, as mine was not spread enough and fell out (easy to fix though).

Rated 5 de 5 de par Simple, Functional, Old- Fashioned The construction is all metal, so it is sturdy. Took all of 2 minutes to assemble. Of course, after adding weight to the tray (I used a 90lb dumbell), pushing this across the lawn becomes quite the workout. It is perfect for my small lawn. Now I can aerate whenever I am available without the cost and hassle of renting- plus I definitely got my cardio in for the week. Would not recommend this if you are looking for something self propelled, light, or easy to push- it is none of those!

Rated 2 de 5 de par Way too difficult to use effectively. This aerator is simply too difficult to get effective results. In order to get the deep penetration you need, this unit requires lots of weight in the tray designed for that purpose and it must be pushed. Pulling the aerator behind you is easier, but it doesn't dig into the ground well enough, unless you are working in mud or extremely wet ground. The idea is good, but it is just too hard to push with the weights added. I plan to make a bracket to hook it to the front of my tractor. It should work better that way.

Rated 3 de 5 de par It works about as well as expected for what it is. I wish it could get deeper and wider slits into the ground. But it's better than nothing. If I could load it with 60 lbs and then drag it with some device that would be nice, but it's not that kind of aerator and I don't have a riding lawn mower or anything to do that with. (What I really need is to do some de-thatching.) I don't think it's quite worth the money I paid, though. (Review instructions say don't enter that info here. :-/ ) But I do think it helps. I'll be using it again the next time it rains hard. That's the best time to use it--when the ground is good and wet and soft. And since it's not plugging, it doesn't rip up your yard, so you can use it more than once. I suppose the fact that you actually probably should use it two or three times a season is actually not a strong point, but whatever.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Aerator This product has met my expectations. Now I live in the sand hills of North Carolina so this aerator punches the ground with a little less effort than if you live in areas with clay. And as others have stated you will feel like your part mule pushing this thing around with a heavy brick on top. I use a 3 inch thick by 12 inch long brick to weigh it down which stays in the upper tray nicely. I usually wait till it has rained to soften things up a bit before I go out and start punching the soil. My back yard is 10,000 square feet with my front yard at 6,000 square feet, so it can be a work out. The holes that are made are 2 inch deep slits that seem to stay in place for a number of days. For me, this is a good alternative to renting an aerator that is heavy to load in your truck and would need a ride on mower to tow it around the yard. My yard is big for this device, but I don't need to do it in one day. I intend on buying a ride on mower next year and will (somehow) find a way to attach this aerator to it to make the job a lot easier.

I would really only recommend using it after there has been a good rain, once you weigh it down, it can be a beast to maneuver, and I would certainly recommend pulling it vs. pushing it. It does the job if you tackle small areas at a time which is what I bought it for. It suits my needs, but I would not recommend it for a large scale job/area.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Nice solid construction. It comes already assembled, just unpack, attach the handle and go on your way to aerating your lawn. I bought this so I can aerate a few times a year with lugging a 300 pound aerator from the rental yard each time.

Rated 1 de 5 de par DO NOT BUY I bought this TWICE and both times it came without a handle. When you contact Home Depot, they say it's "from the warehouse" so they can't send the missing part so you must return it and buy a new one. But they don't bother doing any quality control to ensure all the parts are in the box before it's sent. Don't waste your time or money.

Green mesh in sod.

Posée par: BrownThumber
Thank you for your question. There is a chance that the spike aerator will reach the depth of the mesh. This should not damage the lawn, however, as long as you have waited a year for the sod to establish before aerating.
