Rated 4 de 5 de par Solid Stringers! I bought these to replace a pair of wooden stringers that had gone bad. They were a little more work to mount but once in, they are awesomely solid. I did learn that you cannot pre-drill the bolt holes since the stringers tend to flex slightly as you attach the steps. I am totally happy witht he end result though.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Steel Risers Up to code and very sturdy. Make sure you buy either galvanized or stainless steel hardware to weather proof you staircase. The combination of black steel and pressure treated wood looks very appealing.

My stair tread width will be 42". How many risers are needed? 2 or 3?

Posée par: Janisse
42” might be a bit much for an unsupported span with two.  Having said that, you could set the risers in from the edge of the stair tread a few inches on each end and fix that.  My stair treads are 48” wide but with an overhang of 5.5” on each end I brought the unsupported span down to 37”.  I used two risers.  It’s extremely sturdy and the overhang looks really sharp.

How many risers you would recommend to build a stair case which will be 75" long and will land 2 feet below (from an upper deck of size WxL = 36"x75") to a lower a deck. I am using Trex composite decking board.

Posée par: Jamie
I would treat them as a standard floor/deck joist and would have them roughly 12” apart.  If your deck calls for 12” on centre joists I would copy that to the stairs.

What's the widest stair that should be done with 2 stringers? widest with 3 stringers? I was thinking I'd like to have a 7ft wide stair, but maybe that's too much?

Posée par: Brad
You can download the installation manual from the peak products website... But here's an excerpt.... Before beginning work, read and follow DETAILED instructions below or from www.peakproducts.com. Building codes may vary. Always understand and comply with your local building codes. Important: For stairs up to 4’ wide, use two risers. For stairs over 4’ wide, space risers not more than 2’ apart. For all stairs, treads may overhang the end risers by 6”.

Should these 2x6's be screwed from underneath or bolted through with round top bolts and nuts. If either, what sizes should I be using?

Posée par: Habsfan
Hello and thank you for your question. Please refer to our installation guide for the recommended methods for installing stair treads. You can find this here: https://peakproducts.com/en-ca/installation-guides-videos/ Thank you for your support!

Can I use Trex composite board for the stairs instead of wood. Which would be the stronger.

Posée par: Dome Homes Rule
Hello and thanks for your question. We believe that 2x6 dimensional lumber would be the best choice for treads on these steel stringers. We haven't tested them with Trex deck boards so we aren't able to offer any comments on performance. Please give us a call toll free at 877-883-7325 if you have any additional questions at all. Thank you!

The picture shows two boards per thread. With a 10 1/4 inch run, would I use two 2" x 6" pieces? That would be 11" plus 1/8" spacing allowance thus resulting in 7/8" overhang, a bit too much, no?

Posée par: DIYrookie
Hi DIYrookie, in this case the overhang is by design, and as per the excellent response from our community member, making everything consistent is key. Please feel free to give us a call at 877-883-7325 if you have any further questions at all. Thank you!

With the peak step stair raisers, do you need to use flashing?

Being installed under a patio window
Posée par: Leon
Hi Leon, thanks for your question. If this is going under a patio window you will want to consider water flow regardless of the product you are installing. This may or may not be required depending on your specific needs.
