Rated 4 de 5 de par pretty good but..... I've had this feeder for about 4 months. it works well at keeping squirrels out however, smaller animals like chipmunks or even small squirrels will figure out a way to get at the seed. they hang from the roof, even have one foot on the hopper and manage to get at the seed. Better yet, i'm writing this review because i just came in from outside and found three mice inside the bird feeder gorging themselves. i have no idea how they got in, the roof was on correctly, i will have to have a closer look tomorrow. overall i like it, it's well built, it looks great and the birds love it. i just need to figure out how to deter the other animals.....

Rated 3 de 5 de par Smart Squirrel feeder I have the metal version of this, only metal is a defense against squirrels. Holes a ton of seed, less filling! ... except smart squirrels learn to hold onto sides, so perch doesn't close up seed feed holes - THEN they will try to empty this feeder. Tried a Home Depot hanging clear dome - defeated sqirrels fro awhile but eventually squirrels defeated this combination. A larger dome can be found on line (~$55) but I am starting over with something not so wide and a sturdy hang dome that is at least 3" larger.

Rated 2 de 5 de par Not Squirrel proof Its says in the description that its squirrel proof, but its not, they are able to get on the roof and turn the rooster until they feel it come free, then they just pull on the roof until it slides off. I have them on my security camera doing just that. Also, the front bar that the birds sit on while they eat, well its supposed to collapse when something heavy like a squirrel tries to get the food, well they figured out how to beat that as well. And finally, with a good rain, water gets in through the roof lock. I do love how it looks and I get a ton of birds using it, but I also get a lot of squirrels as well, would not buy again.

Rated 1 de 5 de par It leaks like crazy I didn't realize it until it was too late to return. It leaks from where you fasten the roof and ruins the seed. It made a nasty mess at the bottom to the point that birds couldn't reach the good seed. I just thought the birds were adjusting to the new feeder, but they just couldn't eat from it.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Rotten seed + bleached color = bad bird feeder I bought this bird feeder at the end of last winter to replace an old and rather ugly one in my backyard. The bird feeder looked great, even whimsical, and it certainly added to the beauty of the yard. Filled with seed, it quickly attracted a few birds. My daughter was delighted with all the activity. Then it rained and fewer and fewer birds showed up. It seemed odd to me and thus, I changed the bird feed. Still, birds were rare. After a while, the reason was clear: The bird feeder is filled through a hatch in the roof. That hatch is NOT water tight. In fact, when it rains, water will penetrate the roof and soak the seeds. When it rains a lot, the seed will be outright soggy. If you don't dump it out right away, it will rot and you find yourself breeding a wild variety of maggots. Lovely. Not that those maggots would attract the birds... Next, I noticed that the color seemed to be fading. The process just kept going and now, not even a year after buying this feeder, the bright red is completely gone and it looks washed out and ugly. Worse, some of the paint has peeled off. If you decide to hang this feeder, be prepared that the central swivel will NOT hold it horizontal. A bit of wind, a heavy bird, a shift in the way the food is held inside and the feeder will tilt. If several of these factors coincide, the feeder will simply tip over! I find myself putting a seal around the hatch in the roof in order to keep using this feeder. I also spray painted it to restore it to its former glory. None of that should be necessary after less than a year. In other words, this feeder is NOT worth its money...

Rated 1 de 5 de par Squirrels (3) Humans (0) I really loved this charming feeder when my husband came home with it. I was excited that we might finally have some great bird action at a feeder the squirrels couldn’t get at. Sadly though, Squirrel proof is not ultimately how I would describe this feeder. First the squirrels figured out that by turning the adorable weathervane at the top that they could open the roof. After finding the roof on the grass twice, my husband brought the feeder inside and inserted a small nut and bolt into the roof securing it better. This seemed to work until the squirrels figured out they could hang from the roof, therefore not activating the bar that closes the access to the seeds. But that wasn’t enough for those greedy hungry rats with better outfits. Nope. They decided having to work for these seeds was too much. So they pushed in the front window and took it all. They robbed the feeder of about 3lbs of seed before we discovered it. I really wanted to love this feeder but it failed miserably. Now we’re trying to repair the damage and see if we can secure the window and get it back out there but I’m disappointed overall.

Rated 1 de 5 de par The roof is not long enough The seed gets really wet and starts to get moldy. I noticed that the roof is not long enough. The water just rolls back in.

The product is reasonably well made and should give years of service as a bird and squirrel feeder. That's right, it is emphatically not squirrel proof. In less than 1 day, the squirrels had figured out how to get the lid off the feeder and now they sit nicely in the feeder eating the seed. I have to put the lid back on several times per day and I'm looking for a way to keep it clamped on. And before you ask, I'm using hot pepper laced seed that squirrels are supposed to hate. My squirrels don't seem to notice the hot pepper or else they love it. In under a week 11 squirrels have met their demise while dining on bird food. As a bird feeder, it's great but don't think for a moment it's squirrel proof. They don't sit on the front (which is squirrel resistant) they take the lid off and sit inside.

Posée par: Chuck
Birds are creatures of habit and can take some time to adjust to a new feeder. To aid in this transition, we recommend temporarily taking down any other established feeders. Placing a shiny pie pan with a handful of seed on the ground under the feeder may also help attract them to the feeder.

can it rust with it being made metal
Posée par: tooter
Yes it does rust, I've bought 3 now in last 5 years and all have rusted badly. I like the feeder though because it stops Grackles and Starlings, some as many as 20 or 30 appearing together and emptying out the feeders in no time.

How do i get the bids to come to this feeder they avoid it its filled with thiere favorite seeds

Posée par: Lill
Birds can be very cautious towards new items in their environment and may take a few days or weeks to warm to a new feeder. To encourage them to try the feeder, we recommend removing established feeders temporarily and placing a small pie pan of seed below the feeder. The shiny pan will attract the birds to the area and will fly up to the feeder for more seed.

The headlines says it has a 12 pounds capacity. Yesterday when you read the product specifications it says 8 pounds. Which is correct?
Posée par: Justme
We apologize for any confusion! This feeder holds approximately 8lbs of seed and will weigh approximately 12lbs when filled to capacity. We have made our Product Managers aware of this confusion!
