Rated 5 de 5 de par Pipe boot (Perma A Boot) They work great you might have to trim the shingles around the old boot to get it to sent down flat on it. Used on 1.5 inch copper worked just fine. I had to extend the vent pipe as it was a little short use a copper coupler and a short pcs of copper. just siliconed then as there is no pressure. It works best if the vent is about an inch shorter than the boot. Also used a 3 inch and a 2 inch worked like a charm only had to trim the shingle around the old boot that was there to get them to set nice on the roof. Would use again

My stacks were too short for these to work but I had 1 1/2" unions and pipe already and measured and cut to made them work. My concerns. Critters may build nest under the caps since they aren't sealed to the roof but the heat might be too high for them. Also because my regular boots were already falling apart the critters may get into the house under these caps. I do have a new roof going on next month so the regular pipe boots are being replaced and my new Perma-Boots are going on over them. In my opinion this is the best time to install these, with new roof boots. It will save them from premature deterioration due to UV and weather.

Be aware I found the lower section to be much taller than needed to fit over the old boots, so it is much more visible than the old ones. The vent pipes on my house weren't long enough so the inner sleeve on the top cap wouldn't extend down into the pipe. Cutting the top cap and the section it fits over (middle piece) off makes it real difficult to fit because they're tapered. I ended up tossing the bottom piece and modifying what was left to make it work. Might have been easier to just buy a regular boot, modify it, and slide it over the old one and use some roofing sealant to seal around the bottom.

The product description never mentions the requirement for your vent pipe to extent above the roof by a certain amount. If the pipe is too short, which it was in my case and my neighbors, they won't work at all. If it's too long you'll need to cut off the vent pipe to make it fit. Also PVC tubing is sold by the outer diameter. These boots are sold by the inner diameter. Confusing to say the least. Should be sold by OD just like the PVC pipe they are designed to fit over. Ordered 4 and had to return all 4. Waste of time and there are simpler and less expensive ways to fix the problem

Rated 4 de 5 de par easy to install Simple fix to a dry rotted rubber boot around plumbing vent. No modifications to the shingles needed.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Easy fix Quick fix for cracked and leaking roof jacks. About half my vents were too short, however, and I had to extend them. If I hadn't had to do that, I would have fixed all six jacks in about 5 or 10 minutes.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Best Invention Since Highway Reflectors These Perma-Boots are the best invention since highway reflectors and should sell just as many. They should be standard on every roof. I have 5 boot vents on my roof and the rubber gaskets had disintegrated on every one of them. So I ordered three 1.5" and two 2" Perma-Boots. It was dark by the time I got around to installing them but didn't want to wait in case it rained. So I, a female, actually went up on the roof and installed them by feel in the dark. Each one took less than a minute. I didn't bother gluing them because the cap holds them quite securely and I may replace my shingles in the near future. They have a lifetime warranty which IMO justifies their costing three times as much as the rubber gasket alone. I bought the ones that cover the existing vent, but they also come in a new construction version which includes the flashing that goes under the shingles. All new roofs should be built using these Perma-Boots. Then homeowners wouldn't have to be climbing around on their roofs.

Rated 2 de 5 de par Poor quality Make sure that you have ample pipe coming out of the roof, you will have to either cut down the boot to make it connect or extend the pipe. This is not in the instructions on the box.

Pipe only measures 1-1/4; what do I need to do?
Posée par: Brian
It will probably be two loose. You may have to caulk the top down to hold it all together.

My vent pipe inside measurement is 1 5/8. What size boot do I need to buy?

Posée par: Brad
This is the right one. In the title of the item it says 1.5" I.D. 1.5 inch Nominal Pipe Size (schedule 40, which is the standard) has an O.D. of 1.905" and a wall thickness of 0.145". So the inner diameter is 1.905 - 2 * 0.145 = 1.615". If you are measuring yours at 1-5/8", that is 1.625" (close enough to 1.615"), so you have 1.5" I.D. pipe, or just "1.5 inch pipe."

will this work on a concrete / mission tile roof?
Posée par: Mitch
My advice is to contact David@perma-boot.com. I wrote to him initially because I have a metal roof, and I was worried about snow and ice dams here in Maine, and he reassured me they would work fine. I now have three up there, and I will see how things go this winter.

Does it matter how long your pipe. Mine looks longer than the video. Not sure if it matters when you put the top on?

Posée par: Jeff
Yes it does matter. If it's longer than you need to cut your pipe and then you have to put this thing on top of that.

Can I use this to extend the height of a vent pipe?

Can I use this to extend the height of a vent pipe?
Posée par: Tbelle
It will automatically extend the height of the vent pipe if the pipe is shorter than the PermaBoot's shortest height. In other words, yes. Of course the vent pipe has to be of sufficient height to hold the PermaBoot securely in the first place.

How do I measure the pipe vent for the correct size of the perma boot?

How do I measure the pipe vent for the correct size of the perma boot?
Posée par: fixerupper
What I figured out from ordering and installing 5 perma boots is that where it says in the description "1.5 IN. I.D." it means 1.5 inch interior dimension or inner diameter, so you measure the inside diameter of the pipe vent. My roof needed 3 x 1.5" and 2 x 2" perma boots. The directions say to use some kind of adhesive but I didn't use any. It is not necessary. Mine have stayed put for years. Unless you live in tornado country, don't bother with glue. I like being able to take them on and off if I need to replace shingles or anything. These are the greatest invention. It literally takes seconds to install them.
