Rated 4 de 5 de par Good product I bought this to keep our crafty little 2 year old from escaping through the patio door that she figured out. It was cheap and works as advertised. Not sure why someone would say the directions were not good. It has two separate sets for the type of door you have. Seemed easy enough for me to understand. I did not follow them to the letter as I put the bar in the track on the frame instead of on the wood around the patio door. I did have to use longer screws than were provided but that is on me. Other end that went into the sliding door with easy. Was a little nervous about the glass but no issues. Took maybe 15 minutes to put in including gathering the tools to do it.

Rated 4 de 5 de par dose what is supposed to do! but do what I do when you open the bar ,press lock and shorten it so... dose what is supposed to do! but do what I do when you open the bar ,press lock and shorten it so if it fall when you close the door behind you it wont lock you out!!!! I found it will stay put if you don't retract the arm all the way in because then it interferes with the self holding pin. Also the plastic lock that is supposed to hold the arm from being raised from out side dose not fit the metal receiver bracket that well and the clips are to short to hold the bar in place. I found out when my cat jumped up at the door and hit the bar and dislodged it from the bracket. I use a rubber band to hold it in place now, worked just fine. that is why only 4 stars. It is still a good secondary lock!

We enjoy this bar because it eliminates the broomstick handle we were using instead. It’s at a higher place on the door, which also eliminates bending over, especially when your back is sore from too much Pokemon Go over the weekend. It’s sturdy, which means it’s great at keeping intruders or the occasional in-law from getting in. Also, it was easy installation, so whether your expertise is in kitchen renovation or kicking back and playing pinball, you’ll be able to successfully get this bar up and working.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Works as Advertised Installation instructions were clear and concise. I had to make a slight modification by adding spacer washers behind the fixed channel mounting bracket as the bracket was a little too wide to fit into the channel in my 33 year-old sliding door. This took a little ingenuity and added about 10 minutes to the installation time; which overall was about 20 minutes. The bracket should fit fine in newer sliding doors. Once installed, the bar works perfectly. It is adjustable to allow the door to be kept partially open, but still secure. With the door opened wide, the bar folds upward out of the way. A nice value for the price. Would definitely buy it again.

The product in my opinion might be a "3" at best although that is being generous giving the design something of the benefit of doubt in case the problem is specific to the unit I have. What is the problem that causes the poor rating here? The length extension. The length is adjustable as advertised. The problem is that it does NOT lock at the selected length consistently. The unit is lifted as shown in the photo, the probability is that the latch will slip and the length will drop into the base, so when the unit is placed into position to stop the door from opening, there is no guarantee that it'll be locked to length and could slide. Fiddling with the latch will eventually cause the position to lock, until it is moved again.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Prime-Line Patio Sliding Door Security Bar We bought one a year ago for our house and it works very well!! The bar locks in place after you get the length to put the bar in the bracket on the sliding door!! When the bar is locked into the sliding door the only way through the door is to break the glass!! So with this bar you can feel much safer in your house!! We just bought this for my nephew to install on his sliding glass door to make his house safer!! This bar comes highly recommended!!

Rated 4 de 5 de par Great Useful Product I installed a total of 3 of these on new sliding windows. I aligned them along a lower window grid rail to keep it discreet and still be able to lock the bars in the vertical position when opening the windows. 1 of the 3 had a loose locking mechanism. For peace of mind, I drilled through one side of the 2 bars and installed a small screw to keep the bars at a fixed length. The product is a worthwhile investment to help make it harder for the bad guys to break in.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Very easy to install, and vert secure. I had to replace my old bar, so I tried this on out. It should fit every door that you put this on, and is very simple to use. My old bar had a key like devise that you had to insert to keep it locked, but this one does it automatically. All you have to do is press down on the black button and slide it back. Its very convenient, and blends in with the white doors that we have very well. I am very pleased with this product.

People say the length-lock is loose. Can't I just drill through both tubes and put in screws?

i.e., once I find the length I want, why not just drill holes through both tubes behind the length-lock and put in short screws? Seems like that would make it secure, as long as you don't need the "partially open" option (which is just silly, since it'd never be secure).

you can drill and bolt it but you lose the adjustment factor. And when you raise it it may be to long to store in upright position. I noticed that the adjustment was loose also and when you would rattle the arm or door you could just push the rod back slowly and it would not lock. It was not a run of the mill repair but I had fixed it by cutting a compression spring to length (3/16 - 1/4 ") and inserting it into the gap in front of the adjustment latch. It keeps pressure on the latch, holding it in locked position until you press it. It works great now and stays put.

What is the benefit of using this product as opposed to just using a piece of 1X 2 cut to length

Self storing, looks nicer, can be adjusted to any length and when used to hold the door partially open, the door is secured from either opening or closing

No the only way to lock it is drill a hole and drop a nail through the bar like my review shows

Can it be cut down for a smaller opening?

Can it be cut down for a smaller opening?
Posée par: Tobesvet
The length as shipped and intstalled is about 27 inches, more or less. To cut it smaller a metal cutting hacksaw would be required, then you'd have to rework the mounting to the door frame. My guess is that it could be done, yet it's not a quick or effortless task and partly this befomes more difficult if you need it much shorter.

What is the material used

Posée par: Bj
The material used is steel with a telescoping, locking mechanism that is very tough and would be impossible for someone outside your home to break into a sliding glass door. The only way in would be to break the glass. This would draw attention to the intruder so he would try a door he could bust open.
