Home Depot sells them in Canada but not in the US. Luckily had a friend in Thunder Bay pick them up for me in store and then ship them. Wish they carried them here.

I had some buried chunks of concrete from when my house was built in the first foot of soil, but once I cleared those out of the path of the screw it performed well.

This was quite easy to use and solved the problem of setting foot bridge posts in a saturated soil. It is very important to drive the rerod guide first and learn if there are any underground obstacles in the proposed location...a large root will stop this foundation screw in its tracks. Its a boon to have this new, advanced, and ingenious foundation technique now available to homeowners. I must add that it will now take 5 years of use to be certain these screws give the support promised. That present unknown is the only reason I did not rate at a full 5 stars.

Rated 1 de 5 de par DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY Unless you can x-ray your ground don’t bother with this crap! The smallest rocks or roots jam it up and it will not screw into the ground. The square part on the saddle breaks with even the slightest resistance. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!

Rated 1 de 5 de par pylex foundation anchors although i personally think this is a good product, It is not acceptable to the building inspectors and will not pass the building code regulations. I have wasted my money purchasing this product

i am building a 10x15 shed in my backyard. does this solution comply with Ontario city code? do i need inspection engineer?

Posée par: Moe K
Ontario building code does not really address this. The approval depends on individual municipality. For example, in GTA there are building departments that with structural engineer's stamp, these screws are accepted. However, if you live in Ajax, ON you are out of luck. The building department treats Pylex engineering data as equivalent of a used toilet paper. In other words, useless. Call your local building department for more info.

I'm in GTA, the frost line is 4ft. The post is described as "resist heaving", but its spec/video indicate the rod is 48'', needs minimum 3'' above ground, so underground is maximum 48-3=45''. Wondering if it's good to use in GTA? Thanks

Posée par: jackie27
I used them to build a large deck in northern Ontario 3 years ago. It was clay soil, the deck has not heaved at all, I did not use extensions, just as they came. Roots and rocks are a problem but otherwise great.

Can these be used for a deck that is 3ft above ground at house with a gradual grade down to 5-6ft at the end? Also, how far down should they go in Sandy/Clay ground?

Posée par: Mike
You could use them for that kind of purpose. You would just need to make your posts longer. I would recommend going with the 6x6 bracket for posts that long rather than the included 4x4 bracket. However, our experience was that they would not turn in to the clay. Once we hit clay, they just spun and spun without biting into it. We put almost 400 lbs of weight on them and they still did not bite into the clay. We abandoned them, rented a gas-powered auger and poured concrete piles instead.

Looking to build a gazebo 14x12 would these work?? Every 8’? Or 4’? Under the beams holding the floor joist?

Posée par: Luke
Each one is rated for up to 5,000 pounds, so it depends on what you plan to put on it. That said, we used them every 4 feet to hold the beam that supports our porch. They work great.

We bought these adjustable Pylex to build a boardwalk. After 2 years the heads of the Pylexs are popped up which are causing the Boardwalk to lean. How can we secure the heads to the posts to prevent the heads from popping up?

Posée par: Lisa
The only answer to the problem of uplift with these without compromising strength is a tack weld.

What can you do if you hit compacted clay a few feet down.?The screw just sits there and spins....but doesn't go down anymore. One screw is about 6 inches to go...while another one has 2 feet. Any idea how to penetrate that clay? I have 7 more to go

Posée par: Smoes
Two tricks worked for me. 1 - rent a post hole auger from Home Depot and use the small bit (about 3 inch diameter) to pre-drill the hole. 2 - build a reinforced wrench out of a couple 2x4s and bolt it into the head of the thing to get more torque. Was VERY labour intensive but it eventually worked.

Do these provide any uplift resistance? Looking to build a gazebo.

Posée par: Jon york
They will not rise since the auger Plate is below the frost line.  But it is possible for extreme wind to lift the structure since the mount bracket bar simply rests inside the pipe.  I would recommend anchoring your gazebo to the ground if you are concerned about wind.
