Rated 5 de 5 de par Hardest part, preparing our foundation wall! We purchased this product to use over our exterior cement foundation of our home. Prior to using this product we used our pressure washer to remove the old paint and then used a chissle and a hammer to chip off weak pieces of old cement. We also found a lot of black tar on our foundation.. it was 61 years old and was a very thin coat like paint... we managed to remove it ourselves using a grinder...Nothing will stick to tar!! At this point we had a few deeper surfaces to fill so we used a concrete based product only on those surfaces to bring it flush to the rest of the wall. Now we were finally able to use this Quikrete parging mix .. We first lightly sprayed/ misted the wall and then the first batch we used was not sticking to the wall, it was just falling off but we forced it on. The second batch we made of the parging mix, we realized that we had to add more water and they say it should be a bit thinner than a peanut butter consistancey and that went on very well. We waited 24 hrs to apply the second coat of this parging mix. About 30 minutes later we used a wet sandpaper sponge for a rough effect and this actually helped us to make it look very even all over. We never did such a project before and we are actually very pleased on how it turned out. Note, if you are planning to use paint over the creeping, wait 7 days for water based paint and wait 28 days for oil based paint. By the way, dont mix more parging mix with water than you can use up before it dries out.

I have a porch that was redone with a decorative stone edge stamp. The concrete wasn't vibrated properly and there is a honeycomb effect on the edge. I would like to parge the edge. Is this a good product for that type of work?

Posée par: Alex
If you mix it right and don’t fuss with it. You should be able to get the job done

Can this be set over painted (not tarred, just paint) block foundation? Is this the correct 'type' of mix that wont cause issues with the existing mortar mix? House was built in 1911. Unsure of date of block. Hamilton Area production housing by Dafasco

Posée par: knen
The main concern is you have to have the area clean. In another word, all the loose blocks or old concrete should be brushed and cleaned. Then is product will work very well.

Hi there. Is this product the same as what people normally refer to as a "pre mixed scratch and brown material"? I'm making a pizza oven and looking to use a stucco that's water repellant and can resist some heat.

Posée par: Tony
QUIKRETE® Parging Mix is a pre-mixed mortar similar to “scratch and brown” stucco. Unfortunately, this product is portland-cement based, so it is not suitable in high-temperature environments. Portland cement, the base material out of which QUIKRETE® Parging Mix, as well as other cementitious based mortars and concretes, is made, can degrade in temperatures as low as 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Because of this, products used within the actual cooking area, or immediately surrounding it, should be made of refractory cement, rather than portland cement. Refractory cement is designed to be able to withstand exposure to high temperatures.

guy before me painted old stamped parging for quick cheap upgrade to sell, I must now repaint as he used wrong paint, what should I use to repaint old and new parging? What is the best product to use? Thx

Posée par: Crackers
I’m going to need a little bit more details here. Are you wanting to fill in the old stamped parging or literally paint it with a brush? If you’re looking to fill it in, then use quikrete mortar mix type n. Make sure it’s the mix and not just the cement. Fill everything in and then once it’s dry, you’ll have to apply a finish coat over everything to give it that smooth look.

Can I parge over existing parge coating?

Posée par: DEANZ
Yes provided the existing surface is not coming loose. Ensure the surface is clean and solid, apply a coat of concrete adhesive and you should be good to go :) (the instructions on the bag will cover most of these points) if this is a DIY task YouTube and google will help you avoid common mistakes. I have hairline cracks around the parged exterior walls. How do I fill up the cracks with caulking? Would that match the parging texture? I used the Quikrete parging without any colouring.

Posée par: Dimos
QUIKRETE® Parging Mix is not suitable for filling hairline cracks. Filling these cracks on walls requires either a non-sagging sealant or an elastomeric coating. QUIKRETE® Non-Sag Sealant is suitable but is only available in gray. Custom color matching will only be convenient when using an elastomeric coating.

Two questions about your product, first after applying and sponging the surface, it looked good but 24 later when it dried there were multiple hairline cracks and surface colour was not uniform multiple shades of grey from dark to light, how can I correct

Posée par: Jack
Hairline cracks in QUIKRETE® Parging Mix are generally caused by either excess water at the surface or the material drying too quickly. We would recommend placing another thin coating of the Parging Mix on the area, and maintaining it in a moist condition for the first 48-72 hours to prevent premature drying.
