Rated 5 de 5 de par Belt sander This is a real nice belt sander and the price was great. A popular magazine reviewed some belt sanders and said that the only thing stopping this one from getting a five star rating was not having variable speed. Well these new ones do. I first tried it out on an old chopping block that was probably as old as I am and was coming apart due to glue failure. I was able to pry all the pieces apart without damaging the wood but the dried up glue needed to be removed and I was amazed at how easily this new belt sander got down to fresh wood. I have bought a number of Ridgid brand tools over the years and I think I'm going to be as happy with this new belt sander as I am with my other Ridgid tools.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Great sander I've used this sander on several projects needing heavy stock removal. Removing damaged/old veneers is fast and effiicient with few or no grooves as long as you do not rush. Removing old stain is a snap. It has plenty of power and a very useful speed range to adjust to your work piece. The dust collection is good but the vacuum attachment is much more efficient. The tool has never overheated, and the motor and moving parts have never clogged with either dust collection method. A great deal with the free 1/4 sheet sander. I would buy this tool again without the free sheet sander, which also works very well.

Rated 3 de 5 de par dust or bust Overall I am happy with this until it stopped working. I did not fill out the appropriate stuff online to get the lifetime warranty. After a year of owning and using the sander, I opened up the sander and to my surprise there was the motor covered in dust. I understand that the bag fills up and I empty it but I never would have thought there would have been so much in the motor itself. I was disappointed to find it needless to say. I give it three stars due to the fact that I do like the soft start and variable speed and if it does offer the lifetime warranty I will feel it out in time on the next one.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Belt Buster Champion I purchased this sander to remove the finish from a large deck. I was disappointed to find that unlike Ridgid orbital sanders, it did not include an adapter for a shop vac. In addition, the sander is quite long and heavy, so it is really only suitable for large horizontal surfaces. But the really unacceptable feature is that it tracks poorly and destroys belts after a short period of time. Cons: 1. After about 3 hours of use, the sander started eating belts. The belts tracked ok, but they failed after running for several minutes. My older sander ran belts from the same package fine. 2. No vac. adapter. 3. The length is unwieldy. Pros: 1. The motor worked OK. 2. Variable speed is convenient. 3. Easy belt installation. You will take advantage of this because you will install many.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Very good sander I was hesitant to buy this sander based on some of the negative reviews this sander had but I am very glad I did. The machine performs very well and the price isn't so bad for what you get. Belts are very easy to install, I had no problems with tracking and only occasionally did I need to adjust them. 4-5 adjustments in a five hour run isn't bad. I am not sure why some people were reporting that this machine eats belts as I did not experience this during 5 hours of continuous use. I bought a 5 pack of bi-directional belts for $8 and went through two and half. None of them broke they just didn't sand as effectively after awhile so I changed them out. Sandpaper does that. I wonder if the people having belt problems were using cheap belts or maybe belts that are not bi-directional? If you don't use bi-directional belts you could end up putting belts on the wrong way and perhaps then you would encounter a belt eating problem. But that would be operator error not a machine problem. The sander is easy to use, the weight is just right and I was able to sand in any direction without tracking problems. Another common problem reported was with the collection bag. Like many others I encountered this problem right after I emptied the bag for the first time. The trick is not to fill up the bag 100%. The instructions recommend to fill it half way. Well I didn't take that advice either but when it got blocked I was able to clear it with a can of compressed air like the ones you use on your computer. Just insert the straw right above the top of the sanding belt where the impellers are, spray some air and the blockage will clear and you are back in business. Lastly, is the way the sander starts up. While I would like a way to override this feature it wasn't that bad. I could see this as a benefit on some projects but it wasn't necessary for my project. It still ramps up pretty quick and the delay isn't as long as some people indicated. The reason I give it a 5 star is because of my desire to have an override on the delay start and because I think the machine should be able to clear the blockage I made on its own. But again, I was the one who insisted on maxing out the bag everytime and this will push dust back into the unit. Operator choice on this one.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Good item! This was a replacement for a spent belt sander I had. Shopped around and the deal is good. This is one heavy duty sander and if you want a really good belt sander, you found it. Powerful and easy to adjust, use and switch belts. Nice small front wheel allows close quarter sanding. Only drawbacks: The lock-on button is really hard to use for adult sized fingers. It works but is a pain to press in. Second drawback is that soft start-up. Annoying. Press the trigger and it s-l-o-w-l-y starts up to full throttle. Would be sweet if that could be disabled somehow. Pros: Much quieter than other sanders (think executive jet engine instead of tree stump grinder), heavy, does a great job for stock removal, as well as fine sanding. Nice long extension cord which is a huge plus for overhead cord pullies. Easy to switch belts without carving up your fingers and knuckles trying to operate the release. Yeah, get this. It's worth it.

Rated 5 de 5 de par one of the better This belt sander is one of the finest I've used. It has excellent dust collection for a belt sander. It actually picks up about a half or more of the dust which is unheard of. It has plenty of power and weight is excellently centered. Theres a couple porter cable and makita belt sanders at work but I believe this one takes the cake. I might have to buy another just for work. But it is heavy and thats not a bad thing for the people that dont know this the more weight it has the least force you have to apply which is great because you can move the sander around easier. I build cabinets profesionaly and i appove this for my shop. For the people that used it on decks a belt sander is used to make one surface flush to another, deck boards are warped that is not the tool for the job. The only problem i have with this is the soft start which takes to much time to start up. But other than that its a winner

Rated 5 de 5 de par Pretty Good Sander I purchased this sander about one year ago and have not had a problem with it yet. The dust bag collects a large amount of dust and it also has a precise change in speed so its great for every type of wood even hard wood. You can also change the belts pretty quickly too. The sander is a little expensive but with a lifetime warranty it also unbeatable.

Is there a stand that allows it to be used upside down on the workbench?

Not sure. It is solid enough to mount or put in a vice.

Regarding Ridgid Model #R2720 Belt Sander: Will this tool connect with Ridgid wet/dry vac tubes of 1 7/8" diameter? Specifically, Ridgid # WD4522

Posée par: jjones1627
The R2720 dust port where the dust bag connects has a 1-3/8” outer diameter size, which is smaller than the 1-7/8” size of the wet/dry vac tubes indicated. The customer might could find some type of reducer at a vac-supply center to connect the two. However, we have no information on the WD4522 to advise of with it, since we do not make or support it.
