Rated 1 de 5 de par Horrible quality. Before buying this lawn mower I had concerns over its plastic frame. Well, the concern was valid. I used this lawn mower for 5 mins. I grazed a tree while going around it. The little bump caused the frame to connect with the blade causing a gouge. The bump was so minor I did not even notice it but did notic the loud rubbing noise after it... A lawn mower is supposed to be a rugged piece of equipment. Based on this, I cannot imagine this lawn mower to last more than a few years. I had my last lawn mower for 20 years and it still works well just thought I would "upgrade". Very disappointed. I own several ryobi tools and have had no issues. This lawn mower needs to be redesigned starting with the frame. To list this product at $628.00 for something that I can guarantee will not last more than a few years it disappointing. I expected more.I will be returning this and buying a different brand. This makes me question quality of the other tools in their line-up.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Disappointed. I was really wanting this to be better. First off, I was really wanting this to be a better product. I own exclusively Ryobi products (around 80% of everything they make) and was extremely optimistic reading reviews on this mower. It's not without it's upsides for sure, but the downsides have me wishing I had stuck with a gas mower. For reference, I've used a gas mower for over 15 years and swapped to this one about three months ago to avoid having to store gasoline in the garage. I've used it to mow about eight times now on St. Augustine grass in Florida. First, the positives: -battery life is as good, if not better, than I was anticipating. I can finish my lawn (a little over 1/4 acre) using one battery, and the charger that the mower comes with charges a single battery at a time to full in less than an hour. The mower can be operated with either a single battery or both batteries installed, but will only utilize one battery at a time. -The build--like all Ryobi products--is solid and nicely put together. The mower is ready to use right out of the box, no assembly required. -The handle folds easily and the mower can be stored either upright or flat. -The mulcher bag holds a lot and is easy to empty. -The mower is easy to start and much quieter than a gas mower. Much more convenient to stop-and-go with this mower vice a pull-start. -Setting the deck height is easy and uses just a single handle. -The mower blade will increase in power if the mower senses dense grass. Tall St. Augustine grass isn't a problem for it at all. In fact, I would say the mower cuts just as well as a gas mower. Now, the downsides and the reasons I have a hard time recommending this mower: -The speed selector switch is extremely loose; when I hit a root or a bump with the mower, it joggles the speed selector switch every time. Frequently it goes from a normal pace to being knocked to the very slowest. There is no mechanism to tighten the speed selector switch either, it's been that way out of the box. Not sure if I got a defect, but very annoying. I have to reset the speed at least a dozen times every time I mow due to the switch being jostled by a pretty insignificant bump. -The powered wheels are the rear-wheels. If you're used to a rear-wheel driven mower, probably not a problem for you. I'm personally used to my previous front-wheel drive gas mower. Now, no more just lifting the front end of the mower to pivot on a point without coming off the self-propel handle. With this one, you have to let off the self-propelled handle completely and move the mower, a pain when you consider the following bullet: -There is an obvious, poorly-designed delay between applying the throttle and before the mower actually starts moving. Right around 1 to 1.5 seconds after I want the mower to move does it actually move, which is EXTREMELY undesirable on slopes/hills. A terribly poor design feature and an issue I've never had on any of my gas mowers. I've had this mower start rolling backward toward me on a hill after I've depressed the throttle to get it moving and when the torque catches up, it pops a wheelie making it more difficult to control on a slope. That delay is the most aggravating part of the mower. I will say that I've ever only owned this electric mower, so I can't say it's not a feature of all electrics or just this one. -As the battery is used, there is a notable decrease in speed though the mower blade effectiveness doesn't change. It's very evident if you set max speed at the beginning and try again toward the end (even if the mulching bag is emptied). -There is no warning when the battery is almost empty, the mower just dies. If you've only used one battery, not a big deal, but if it's the second battery that's out: sorry man. I would've liked to see an indicator/light/beeping noise when the battery is getting low. -The entire mower is plastic except for the aluminum handle beams but it is no lighter than my gas mower, and actually perhaps a little heavier. It's bulky to maneuver. -To switch from one battery source to the other, you have to physically remove a red key and flip it over to the new battery. It's easy, but I can't understand why they didn't just integrate a switch on the handle, or create an auto-swap function in the mower when it senses a low battery. And if you lose the key for whatever reason, the mower would not operate. It's required to be installed for the mower to run. If I could, I'd return this mower and buy a really nice gas-powered mower for the $500 I spent on this one. If you have a flat tract of lawn without a lot of obstacles, this would be a great option. I'm not totally discounting the quality of this mower, but it definitely isn't what I was hoping for. Ryobi is a great company and makes great equipment, I'm just counting this as a one-off. I put in a lot of time reading reviews before purchasing this one, hope this helps you with your decision.

It is easy for me to push without using the self-propelled feature. The batteries charge quickly. The batteries last long enough to mow my medium sized yard. It is easy enough for me to maneuver around trees and flower beds. I have not used the bag but am very pleased with the side mulch feature.

Rated 5 de 5 de par My First Electric Mower I’ve been using a hand-me-down self-propelled Toro for the last 5 years, and it’s been getting the job done. I got this Ryobi a couple of weeks ago, but just got around to giving it a try. I absolutely love it! I like to listen to music while doing yard work, but have never been able to while mowing because it’s been too loud. This mower is quiet enough that I can listen at a decent volume. The battery life is great as I have a bigger back yard and a decent sized front yard. The two batteries are plenty to take care of all of it plus some. The height adjuster is so easy compared to having to adjust every wheel individually on the Toro. The bag is big and easy to use. I really love how the mower automatically works harder when running into thicker spots (scared me at first until I realized what was going on). Overall, great mower and would recommend!

Cuts well, bags well, and mulches well--does all of these better than our last gas mower and MUCH better than the smaller electric we used for the last 10 years. The two batteries don't quite make it through our nearly 0.5-acre yard, but it does much better than our previous electric and batteries charge quickly. Self-propelled is really helpful on the significant hilly portion of our yard, headlight great for pushing the mowing into the cooler evening. The greater cost of electric is well worth it for savings in gas, oil, maintenance, stink and noise, not to mention improved air quality & reduced climate impact. Batteries are easy to insert and remove for this 59-y-o female--not sure why some are having trouble with that. Very happy with this purchase.

How do I mulch with this mower?

How do I mulch with this mower?
Posée par: Gene
It comes with a mulch plug that you put into a slot underneath the flap. Don't place the bag or the side discharge plastic piece when mulching.

I bought a new lawn mower model RY401140US . Is it possible to stop the blade and continue with the self- propelled only ? Tank you

Posée par: Johnnyboy
Yes, it is. There are three controls on the handle: the bar that you have to pull to use any of the power, the two levers (joined) that control the self-propelling, the button that starts the cutting blade spinning. So to propel the mower without cutting, pull the bar and then the levers. You can control the speed with the sliding switch (a fourth control, also on the handle).

Does this mower require the bag or mulching plug be installed in order to run? On the $399 mower it is required and if not inserted just right the unit will not start. Again, too many nannies.
Posée par: Ken
Yes it does. I also read this in the instructions. The much plug was a little struggle to get in correctly, yet I did (leaving it there for my needs) and it runs sweet!

The box is about 3'-8" by 2'-3" by 1'-8". I don't know of any trunk or back seat that will hold a box of this size. I used my daughter's large SUV to transport it.
