I bought these for a girl Scout woodworking project that I was doing with my daughter. I'm old and don't do much woodworking so I was still doing the two bit counter sink where you drill the counter sink then drill the hole with a second bit (yeah, I'm that old and cheep). Anyway these worked great and the girls had no problem using them. I liked that it is a one step process so you don't need any skill to center the countersink and screw hole. I did extend the drill bit because they were using hand screw drivers to install the screws. about 80 holes were drilled and countersunk but the bit was not broken and still works fine. The one thing that I would pay more for and would make this set better is a case to store these in marked with the sizes.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Avoid this set I bought these on clearance, and I wish I hadn't. The bits get crooked when they're not sunk all the way into the base. I needed a 1" pilot hole, so I extended the bit from its socket an inch. But when I fired up the drill, the bit wobbled like crazy. It turns out that tightening down the bit with the allen wrench, without the bit being fully sunk into the countersink attachment, causes the bit to tilt in the base. It sticks out of the countersink at a very noticeable angle! So much that I think the bit would break if I tried to use it. So unless you only need very shallow pilot holes, avoid this set. Very disappointed.

Rated 2 de 5 de par Bit snapped off These worked okay for maybe 20 holes, but then the drill bit snapped off (I added a photo). When it snapped, I was pre-drilling very soft wood, free of knots, and the bit wasnt being abused or forced. Just not bery high quality material I'm guessing.

The overall concept isn't bad, but these bits have a very light-duty counter sink that doesn't have much of a cutting edge, if any edge at all -- think safety scissors or butter knife. They work ok for soft woods, like pine and basswood, but they really struggle with hardwoods. You have to lay on the drill to make any headway, at which point you're making more smoke than shavings. You wind up with a rather crude bore. If you just need a cheap counter sink for making dimples in soft wood, dry wall or Play-Doh, these bits might work ok for you. Otherwise, I'd look for an actual, dedicated counter sink with a cutting edge.

Can you spell JUNK...These things are so dull they wouldn't even go through soft pine..The blades on the countersink themselves wouldn't cut through hot butter. Ryobi makes great tools...Bits, not so much..

Rated 1 de 5 de par So dull the bits are useless I bought this set today and will return it tomorrow. The countersink portion of all 4 bits has no edge whatsoever. They would wear a small cone in the wood eventually (after about 4 minutes drilling) only if I bore down really hard with the drill. Either my set was defective or this is junk. Either way, the set is going back.

The bit would not cut, or barely and the wood started to char and smoke. I tried varying the drill and pressure applied to the bit. But the result was no better. Oddly, I tried reversing the drill and the bit did a better job, but still not stellar. Also, I had to bore deeper than I thought necessary to get the screw head to be flush. I returned the bits to Home Depot and was disappointed as countersink bits in this size range are not that available or as common as standard twist drill bits. I am not sure what brand to try next and my needs are rare, so investing a lot is an issue also. Ryobi needs to up their QA.

First, the angle of the countersink portion is too steep; you're going way farther into the wood than you need to. Second, there's no adjustable collar to limit the depth. All you can do is adjust the length of the bit that extends beyond the larger countersink portion, but the countersink portion will drill all the way through the wood if you simply keep pressing.

the drill bit snapped off. can I put a new drill bit in it?

Posée par: loren
Loosen and remove the Allen screw with the provided Allen key. Try inserting a sharp pointed object such as a small nail into hole for Allen screw. Use point on nail to push broken drill bit towards countersink side of tool. Once broken bit is removed insert new drill bit and secure with Allen screw that was previously removed.

are there replacement bits for this set

Posée par: Dave
You could use any twist drill bit of the same diameter if you can use a Dremel (or equal) to replicate the subtle flat side on the shaft where the grub screw locks the bit in place.

do you sell replacement bits for the Ryobi or the DeWalt countersink setups

Posée par: barracudas
Not that I have seen in the store, I guess yours broke as well. I bought this set to replace some that I have had and used for 20 years that were simply worn out, one of these broke the first time I used it.
