[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great tool for the home wood worker. The first thing I notice is this tool was not bulky or over weight. I read the directions and noted that before installing the belt correct direction needs to be taken into account. The arrow for direction is on the sander as well as the sanding belt. I like the lock position once the speed is set on the tool. Easy to adjust the tracking of the belt. I would recommend this sander. Your Ryobi ONE batteries will operate this sander just fine. This is a tool only purchase. Would make a great gift!

This Ryobi 18v 1/2x18” belt sander is a very nice file sander, bought it so when building my projects or my wife and her craft projects we can get into hard spots orbit sander can’t. When I work with metals this will get edges smooth no burrs so I can make a proper weld. It’s well balanced and weight is no issue for my wife or myself with a smaller battery, I can use single handed and work in tight spots. Was going to pay extra to get one over seas, but noticed that was coming to US so waited and was worth the wait. I would recommend buying a good quality sanding belt, I bought some less expensive and had issues with them separating at joint seams, but paid a few dollars more and to date no more separation and little longer use of belt. I would definitely recommend this Ryobi Belt sander to anyone , from craft makers to DYI or trades men’s.

Used to smooth rough cuts on landscape timbers, smooth and shape tile cuts, knock burrs off of various things, sharpen axe and lawnmower blade without removing, etc. Belts of various grits up to like 1200 can be found aftermarket. Super useful tool

Rated 5 de 5 de par Extremely Versatile I've been making small crafts and desks and where I cannot get my orbital, 1/4 sheet, or corner cat sanders into, the power file reaches. It's been a lifesaver as well as a time saver. A must-have for any woodworker!

Rated 5 de 5 de par The right tool to sand all those hard to reach pla I have been using a corded version for years, but this is so much better. When you are no longer tethered to a cord. You can really get into some small spaced. I'm so glad that we now have this sander added to the Ryobi lineup.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Handy tool to have This is a great tool you can use it for sanding in tight place’s and use it to square up corners. I even used it to sharpen my shrub shears. Love that you can change the sanding belts without any tools.

Rated 4 de 5 de par least expensive cordless bandfile solution! The tool isn't perfect for it only has one angle, it's hardly adjustable and doesn't look nor feel like a quality item for professionals, however, for an occasional use I can hardly think of anything better! The closest thing to it is made by Hilty and, when all said and done, costs hundreds more, especially after one purchases batteries and so on. Milwaukee isn't any better and other companies simply don't make tools like this, at least not to my knowledge. I tried using it on both metal and lumber and it works exactly the way it was designed! A great addition to any DOY'er, prosumer or even an occasional professional who needs an inexpensive solution to his occasional bandfiling needs.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ryobi 18V Cordless Belt Sander. Part of the ONE+ family of tools. Belts are 1/2" wide by 18". This package comes with three belts, 60, 80 and 120 grit. With this package, you get the tool and sandpaper. Batteries and charger are purchased separtely. No tool bag. Features include "lock on" button to keep the sander running, no-tool belt change, variable belt speed and belt tracking adjustment. I used mine on outdoor furniture and where I need to get in to tight spaces. I purchased the battery (2) / charger starter kit to complete the package. As with most tools, I downloaded the instructions to my tablet so I always have a copy. The unit is light and easy to control. The only downside is there is no dust collection system so tap the unit with your hand to remove the collected dust before storing the tool away.

How long is the working sanding surface? I understand it takes 1/2 x 18 in belts, so nominally 9? is half, but part is inside with the drive so it?s less than that. But how much?

Posée par: BillQ
The working surface vid about 4.5” on one side (ie: bottom) but you can use the 180 curve and the top so working sanding surface available is about 10”.

Does Ryobi have different Grit Belts and where to get them?

Posée par: KJRI
There are lots of options. I found some Diablo belts on the store but HD also sells Wen, Powertech and others. Just do a search on the HD site for: “½ x 18” sanding belts “. You can also do the same search on the internet.  I’ve found options from 40 to 400 grit.

Can you sharpen knives with this sander?

Posée par: Ryobiguy
sure can, I'd use one of the finer grits and keep it at the correct angle.

Does the sanding arm pivot?

Posée par: John
I don’t think so. I bought it as a gift for my FIL.

Can you use the tip or will that quickly destroy the tool?

Posée par: Snygg
I don't see how it would damage the tool but using the tip might be hard as the tool may jump around due to the small contact area.  If you can keep the tool steady, I'd give it a try.

I have an old solid table with thick round legs. The table has a veneer finish on it. What tools or cleaning products could I use to refinish them? The legs have cracks down some of the sides. Can I use some type of glue or how can I fix the cracks?

Posée par: Table
Thank you for the question. I know refinishing can be quite a challenge and there are lots of options of products and tools. I would first suggest you determine what kind of finish you have, water or oil based and use the appropriate product to remove the finish. Then use a filler to fill the cracks. An woodworking trick is to actually use automotive bonds, it works great, dries fast and sands smooth, but will only work if painting the table legs.

Is this a good tool for putting that angled flat edge on a lawn mower blade? I use a disc sander from Ryobi now and while I sharpen the blade fine, I can't seem to get that flat factory look. Anyone has experience using this to sharpen lawn mower blades?

Posée par: CuriousGuy
Yes it will do the job
