The orbital cut does work fast if you don’t mind a rough cut otherwise keep it in reciprocating mode. I would recommend using the larger batteries as this is one of the more power hungry Ryobi tools. My favorite feature is that the safety lock toggles on/off instead of how the older ones required you to simultaneously push two buttons to start it up. I like how they trust the user to use the tool competently instead of the trend towards making tools harder to use so that the biggest idiot can’t hurt themselves.

Reciprocating saws are an incredibly useful tool to have around the house and shop. They can cut all kinds of different material from wood to metal to plastic with ease. I even have used them in the past to trim trees, saves a lot of manual labor effort. The convenience a brushless motor along with no battery allows a long cut time without the hassle of being connected to the wall. The orbital action allows for a very aggressive cut that eats through wood in no time where was you turn it off you can have a more controlled clean cut. Blade changes are easy with the tool-less system and can be completed in a snap.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Ryobi 18 volt Cordless brushless Reciprocating Saw Worst Ryobi tool I have bought yet. The first one smoked of a burning wire smell and the battery was used up in no time. Exchanged it for another of the same with no problem. Great customer service. This one is worse than the fist one. Smoked internally. Battery stuck in saw. Used the battery up in no time. I have the cheap model and it perform very good. But eventually the battery was always loose and even fell out. I now will have to duck tape the battery in place. Will not exchange for the brushless again. Not even worth one star. Biggest piece of junk that I have ever bought. And I definitely don’t recommend it.

I am not sure exactly what was gong on, The unit would get very warm when is use cutting corners off of 2X4 softwood. After about 5 cuts, I would have to go to another battery. It would get hot enough to make the grey plastic soft. Could have been a lemon unit. I use Ryobi products quite a bit and think they perform extremely well. This one the brushless circular saw did not work out for me. The brushless circular saw would not kickoff. I never even got to use it. Go with the non-brushless versions. They may not last as long as brushless are predicted to; but at least they work.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Powerful, with 1 fatal flaw. This is a great tool, easy to use, shape is wonderful and it allows for right or left handed use. However, to my dismay, I saw that the light casing was slowly being destroyed by the 9" saw that I had purchased. This is crazy to me that a tool would have the light designed where the saw is housed. Am I not supposed to use a certain kind of blade with this tool? That seems like a ridiculous concept too. I guess you get what you pay for. I am hoping to get this returned or replaced...too bad I might run into the same issue with a replacement.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Not a speed demon Bought this specifically for cutting out ficus tree roots. It's OK but my brother-in-law's Ridgid was consistently faster at cutting through them. Using brute force doesn't help as it can bog down. I was using Diablo 5 TPI pruning blades which have a very aggressive tooth pattern. This saw did the job but there are heavier duty tools out there. They're also more expensive, but Ryobi is fine for around-the-house tasks. Protoolreviews.com rated this model and nine others and it came in last overall stating it struggled with cutting speed in all materials, but then again your results may vary. Mine suited my needs just fine. Just be patient with it.

Additionally, the shoe kept on falling out during my use, so I had to stop, take the hex out, put the shoe back in and tighten. This happened 3x in a span of 1 hr. Not happy at all.

I just bought this product and when I got it home I slapped one of my 2ah battery and chewed through 4 2"x4"boards like slicing cheese! I'm not noticing the weight and I'm a 66 year old short guy. I guess its all what you are used to.

What exactly are people doing wrong that causes the LED light and the blade guard to be chewed up by the blade on this tool?
Posée par: Alfredo
Possibly due to the guard being loose or pushing the tool too hard when the battery starts to run low

used the wood blade on 1"x1"x3' sticks...chewed up the wood and made a mess of it...what am I doing wrong?

Posée par: DJ
Turn off the orbital on the saw. It's a more aggressive cut when using orbital.

Whats brushless mean?

Posée par: Sirstv
Brushless means that the tool uses magnets to generate a current (power). A brushed motor uses a carbon "brush" under spring tension to generate a current. The main difference to me is that the brushless motor generates a current with less friction which causes less heat. This means less wear and tear on the motor and a more efficient tool. Also, brushes have to be replaced eventually.

would a 12 inch saw blade work with this saw ?

would a 12 inch saw blade work with this saw ?
Posée par: Suej
Any reciprocating saw blade will fit in this. Just remember, the longer the blade, the more likely the blade can bend or snap if it gets hung up. I have used a pruning blade, which is rather long, to cut up larger branches. Be careful and use eye protection.

It seems there is a ball/pin inside which should move to go into the hole on the blade and it does not move. Should it?

Posée par: Donna
Hi Donna, The side clip will allow you to remove the blade and let it slide. We hope this information helps! Thanks, RYOBI Canada.

There is zero trouble shooting information on the website or in the manual. I just bought one of ...

Posée par: Brett
Here's a standard troubleshooting guide, based on the limited information you gave. First - I assume the battery is fully charged? The light takes next to no power, but if the battery isn't charged the motor won't run. Second - There is a lock-out on either side of the trigger. If you don't depress it, the trigger won't engage the motor. Third, with the battery off, tug/push the blade to make sure it is free to move. If none of this works, then I suspect you may have a defective unit and it should be returned.

Does the safety button have to be pressed each time you pull the trigger? Or is it a simple lock amd unlock like some dewalt saws?

Posée par: BIN0613
It is a simple lock and unlock... Trigger controls speed, stop/start...
