Rated 5 de 5 de par Plumbing has never been so much fun! My husband and I recently purchased a cabin that was built back in the 1940's, it needed a total gut job down to the studs! Needless to say, that included plumbing. We received several estimates over $2500 to replumb it. We have done traditional plumbing before and knew we could do it ourselves...but it's such a pain! After speaking with an amazing Home Depot Rep about the SharkBite system, we decided to give it a try. It took us less than an hour to replumb the entire bathroom, and another 20 minutes to tie in the kitchen! And it was fun! The initial investment seems expensive, but compared to traditional copper, plus the added expense of a plumber, this was worth it's weight in gold!

A handyman did the first install and I did the second. The rim cracked in 2 places. The pipes and faucets that you use it on have to be in plain view at all times. I would never trust it on pipes located behind a drywall. Initially I felt that sharkbite was the way to go because it can save $$ hundreds on plumber's bills as well as overall ease to connect any pipes, faucets, gadgets etc. That may still be the case, provided the part is quality made, and rim stays intact. With this item you can't just install and forget. It may flood your property. Lasted me 6 months and it did not meet my expectations for a quality product.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Spinning limits range of applications I bought an elbow, a female connector, and a male connector to replace a tub stubout that had disconnected at the solder joint in the wall. All went well with the SharkBite connectors until I tried to screw on the faucet. Because the copper tubing can spin there was no way to tighten the faucet. I now have to replace two of the connectors with others that do not spin. I am not looking forward to removing the sharkbit connectors--they are very difficult to remove even with the removal tool, and with their location in the wall it is very difficult to get the appropriate leverage on the tool. SharkBite needs to a better job warning people about applications. They tout the spinning as a feature, which it certainly can be in some applications--but in other applications it renders these connectors useless. On the positive side the connectors did not leak at all and I will use them in the future when I can.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Nothing short of miraculous I was replacing a 4 way shower diverter and did not want to solder. I cut the 1/2 copper pipes square, de-burred them with the sharkbite tool, added Teflon tape to the threads and popped them on. It was a tight spot, so had to modify the de-burr tool slightly so that it would rotate in the limited space (I cut the tool leaving just the 1/2 inch end). One challenge was that the hot and cold pipes (left and right) were fixed, so there was no room to get the last sharkbite connection on (see pic). No worries, sharkbite has a two inch slip coupling that did the job. I cut out a 3 inch section of pipe, shortened this to 2 inches and put this on the non-slip end of the slip coupler and slipped it on which left enough space to get the last connector in. Attached the last sharkbite to other end of my 2" pipe on the slip connector, pulled it onto the cold water thread with the tool provided and tightened. Voilà! Before I turned on the water to test the pressure I was doubtful it would hold. The connectors spin on the pipe when you tighten them! What!? I was dumbfounded, not a drop! All connections were tight and the diverter is firmly held in place. Amazing product! A miracle indeed. We've used the shower for a week and still no leaks.

With all of the old copper and brass water systems failing for years of use., My home has the new pvc flex pipe, the type of clamps that attach the pipes to washer, dish washer, toilets, shows, tubs, is not very good, This part is the way to go! simply cut your line and attach this to the pipe with out glue! Makes life so much easier for us do it your self! I also used it when I went with a electric hot water heater, no tank, The cold water line needs to be reduced so that the electric heater can heat the water that flows thru it, this part allows for that reduction with a simple brass fitting, and a lot of Teflon tape.

I had to heat the 1/2" plastic PEX tube, with a hair dryer, in order to create a slight bend so each end would be perpendicular to each SharkBite brass connector and flexable enought to seat 1" into each connector. The PEX is ridget in short lengths and heating the complete length of the PEX made it easy to custom fit the PEX into two rigid galvanized pipes. Please Note, you need to keep in mind, the lenght of the PEX has to include 1" recess into each SharkBite connector and the slight added length to compensate for the bend. The advantage of the SharkBite system is that it can be easily removed, if future modifacations are needed to my Tub/Shower unit.

I seriously should never take on any plumbing job... and yet on occasion I forget, and think it might be a good idea. Hahaha! Replacing a shower handle unit... involved working in a small hole in the wall behind my shower...what was I thinking?? There is no way I would have been able to finish this job without SharkBites!! The project would have involved knocking a huge hole in my living room wall to solder this together!! Instead, I cleaned the old copper piping, pushed the SharkBites in to place....and done!! Whew!! Perfect seal! No leaks! What a relief!! If I break down and try another plumbing project in the future, I am making sure I have SharkBites ready to help me complete my job with no leaks.

This one appears to be a female copper sweat on one end (which is what I want). I have not found any information about applying heat to SharkBite fittings. I'm fairly good with sweating copper pipes, but could excess heat be transmitted to the plastic parts of the fitting and easily damage the plastic or dry out any lubrication that was already on the O-ring?
Posée par: David12846
The fitting you have referred to is a push to connect on one end for PEX, copper or CPVC and a female threaded adapter on the other to screw on to a male threaded pipe end. None of our SharkBite push to connect fittings are made to solder onto any type of pipe. We have brass barb fittings that you can use for that type of application. One end would be for installation into PEX with either our stainless steel clamp and tool or our copper crimp ring and tool. If you have further questions, please contact Customer Service M-F, 8am-5pm at (877) 700-4242.

Once you attach a copper pipe to the teeth are you able to remove the pipe and leave the fitting?
Posée par: Homeowner
You remove the pipe with an inexpensive tool which pushes back the ring on the fitting which releases the grip on the pipe. Remember, however, this is a connector only and does not act as a plug, so the line to which the other end of the fitting is attached is then open and water will flow out.

Can I thread this to the cold water inlet of a gas water heater? Do the threaded parts require O rings or washers to make a water tight seal?
Posée par: Mia
My water heater has 3/4 inlet. If yours has 1/2 then yes if you have 1/2 inch copper water pipes. Make sure to use teflon tape on the male threads wrapped clockwise. You will need to push the copper into the fitting so your pipe has to move. Depending on how tight the system is secured you may need to loosen the supports.

Will it work on end of a hose ?

Posée par: Harold
Yes, but I don't know why you would need to unless you wanted to hook a copper pipe to your hose.

Is the size specified ID or OD?

The fittings are specified for example as 1/2” by 1/2”. Is the 1/2” for inside diameter (ID) of the tubing or outside diameter (OD)?
Posée par: Mike
These are for a 1/2" copper or CPVC pipe on the push connect side 1/2" is the OD and 1/2" FIP (Female pipe thread on the other side.
