Shark Bite fittings and PEX plumbing have revolutionized plumbing for the average homeowner. This product assumes you have access to your main water line coming into your house and a section of pipe exposed around 12" to accommodate your hands and this system. It can be installed horizontally or vertically but is directional for water flow. It also assumes you have adequate WiFi in the place where it will be installed. In my case, my WiFi in the utility room was flaky and I had to purchase a booster for about $30 to make everything work. The system seems well made and sturdy and probably needs supported by either a little shelf (which I did) or some other way to keep the stress off of your plumbing. If it saves one damaged floor it will have more than paid for itself. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

WATER MONITOR AND CONTROL SYSTEM WITH SHARKBITE comes with very interesting and appealing feature - water leak detection. So far we have only been monitoring the water flow usage etc. We haven't tried getting to try a leak detection yet, but based on how it has been working, we think it might. The installation is not easy. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

We have a 65 year old home with copper pipes. Pinhole leaks are common in our area and we had one in our home. Over time the minerals in the water corrode the pipes and a small leak appears. So when we travel we turn off the water. But we still away from the home most days at work or play. The Streamlabs water monitor gives me 24/7 protection and I monitor all the action (hopefully none!) from my phone. It detects small and large movements of water and will turn off the line if it thinks its a problem. Better safe than sorry. The device is very well made. Excellent fittings. I highly recommend getting a plumber to install the monitor on your main inlet line. Peace of mind over a leak that could be a huge problem and lost valuables. In my case, Step 1 was to get a new cell phone as my trusty, old iPhone 5 could not be updated to at least iOS Version 11.0 that is required by the app. (The latest version is iOS 12. 4 as of this writing.) With a new phone in hand, finding and installing the app and pairing the “Control” was a simple matter. The next step is installing the control which involved finding a suitable location and cutting the specified length of ¾” CPVC out of the pipe. The union connections are equipped with “SharkBite” connectors which install easily but you need to install the slip-on connector per the instructions. The Control is directional so look for the flow arrows. A spool-piece is provided that can be installed between the unions if the Control needs to be removed. The control with the brass SharkBite unions weighs in at just over 4 lbs. I recommend finding a location where the pipe is well supported or add supports as needed on both sides of the control. Also remember that the SharkBite fittings allow the fitting (and to what they are connected) to rotate after installation. Once physically installed and powered-up, the control needs to be calibrated using the app. After calibration, the control can be accessed from anywhere via the app. The control is an improvement over the previous version, but it does not address one concern that I have. For those people on a well water supply, if a leak occurs between the well and the control, the automatic shutoff will not detect the leak so the well pump will continue to run causing potential flooding to occur. It would be ideal if the control had an auxiliary input for a water sensor (just like my heat pump water heater has). I plan to add a water sensor and relay to detect a leak ahead of the control and shut off the pump. The last item you need to be aware of is that it needs power to open and close. If you need to open or close the control during a power failure (and the control is not on a generator circuit) you will need to insert a 9-volt battery into a small compartment in the controller to operate the valve. This is not mentioned anywhere in the instructions. The other option is to remove the control completely and install the “Temporary Bypass Flow Tube” which is provided. This is an interesting product for anyone who wants control over their water usage and the ability to monitor their usage to a very detail level. You can even shut off water in an emergency when you are away from your home. My observations: • Let’s talk installation. The first thing you do is download the app, set up an account with Streamlabs, and pair the device to your Wi-Fi all while sitting comfortably at your dining room table, etc. with the product in hand. This takes about 5 minutes. After that you unplug it and take it to where the unit will be installed. With the SharkBite connections that are included the install took me about 15 minutes into my existing PEX tubing water pipes. No joke. It really was easy. Some people may want a plumber to do the install depending on how they feel about cutting into their water line and installing this. • I didn’t have an outlet close by and I didn’t want to add one so I purchased a 25ft power cord extension that is sold on the ‘Streamlabswater’ website. It basically connects to the included cord and adds 25 feet to it. I ran that through the unfinished part of my basement. • After checking for several days I have no leaking on any of the connection points or the unit itself. Based on my inspection everything seems to be of a high quality and made to last. • The app is simple and easy to navigate. When you get the product it comes with a free ‘basic’ subscription to monitor water usage, water pressure, water temperature, leaks, etc. For most people this will take care of your needs. If you feel you need to see more robust historical data and trending you can upgrade to one of their Streamplus paid subscriptions. Again, I found the free version to be perfectly adequate for my needs. However, I later signed up for the included upgraded trial version that was free for a trial period. I figured I might as well try it out at least during the trial period. • After the install the unit will run several self-calibration tests that takes a couple of minutes. Once that is complete everything is ready for primetime. • Within a few minutes after install and calibration the product alerted me that my water pressure was too high. I added a screen shot of that. I never realized that my home had high water pressure. I did reduce the water pressure a small amount to get it back in line. • You can also set several alerts for leaks/drips, room/water temperature, room humidity, water pressure, and heavy water usage. You can even set the system so it will turn off your water automatically during an ‘event’. • It’s compatible with IOS and Android phones with the app. You can also integrate with Alexa or Nest. I found the app (IOS) to be solid and not glitchy. It takes only a few seconds to update each time I go into the app. I’m really enjoying this and I’ve found it to be interesting to watch my water usage and even be alerted to situations if they occur. My testing has shown this to be a good product and performs just as I was hoping and expected. I fully recommend. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I have so many issues with water in recent months in a rental, a leak went unnoticed and destroyed stored items, plus the bills are 5 times more than budgeted for. The way I see it is one disaster and this monitor more than pays for itself. I think its a great tool for landlords. After much research I think this one of the best choices because it monitors the whole house not just one appliance, there's no hub or services to purchase, and its auto shut is very important to me since I am not always available to tend to it if there is a problem. Another must have - is that it will still shut off water even if the WIFI is out. I came across the problem of the WiFi not being close enough to water main lines, so a word of advice- check your signal, I just ordered a booster ran me about 30 bucks. The installation instruction are so simple the whole install is covered on one page. It seriously took longer to download the app then to install. The shark-bites being included make the it definitely home owner friendly with minimal skill so there's no need to call a plumber which saves money. To monitor the whole house- You will need a section of pipe that has to be located after the main shut off but before any branches off the main - that can have a 8.5" section cut out. If you don't have a uninterrupted section that long- then it might require some additional work to reconfigure. You will also need a outlet with in 9.5' for power, I ended up tucking a extension cord at the ceiling. The app is well designed and can do more than just monitor the sensor- it has multiple tests to perform based on the info it collects both short and long term, pretty much all meant to catch the really small leaks that might not show up in use age on a daily basis. It should detect as low as 0.1 GPM loss, I shouldn't complain that I haven't been able to test that. Its also nice that you don't need to purchase a hub or long term contract to utilize its. It came with a year subscription as upgrade but not needed. It might be worth it if i has multiple monitors but the basic free monitoring will do. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

How does the learning deal with water softeners when they regenerate? Also, how do they deal with lawn sprinkler system?

Posée par: ricksrigz
As long as the water softener system is regenerating during the learning period it will include it as normal water usage, so it does not trigger alerts, or false positives. The same will go for a sprinkler system. If you do not want to select Smart Alerts, you have the option of setting customizable alert settings through the App based on time/amount of flow.
