[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very useful tool to have on hand. Especially if you are in a house that is a few years old. Our house is well over 30 years old and from time to time I've had to work through problems with an old outlet and do replacements. This little gizmo makes it easy to quickly check for connection issues like grounds with corrosion build up and that sort of thing and whenever I replace an outlet I can quickly ensure that the outlet is wired up properly and in working order. Nice to have it around to check an outlet that has suddenly stopped working and turns out to be a blown fuse or circuit breaker. Well worth the money.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] this units a 2 in one tester .it will work for any 110 v wall plug to test the correct wiring also is designed to test a 110 volt GFI wall outlet .there a black button you press to test a GFI outlet .when pressed it trips the GFI outlet . then you just press the reset on the GFI outlet to reset it. the outlet tester has 5 light windows on the right side that will light and tell you if the outlets wired correctly or what is wrong with the way the outlet is wired wrong. A must have tool for any one dealing with plug outlets .

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This tester is more functional than my older outlet tester, as this one tests GFCI outlets. It has a button to press to trip the GFCI, as well as lights that indicate faulty wiring of the outlet in test. Is your outlet "upside down"? No problem since this tester has test result indicator lights on both the front and back! Anybody who does even occasional electrical repairs or outlet installations must have one of these in their tool box.

I bought this tester as a supplement to the Commercial Electric GFCI tester I had for years. I got this because the updated Sperry (HGT6520) helps to check the quality of ground. Home Depot also sells a cheaper one that looks like an older Sperry (HGT6120). It even has the same model number with the CE prefix but with lacklaster reviews. Anyway, there was one GFCI in the house that would trip just upon inserting this tester, without even pressing the test button. A search of reviews showed that it may be a problem with the tester. It puzzled me because all other outlets and GFCI's tested fine. Then upon examining that GFCI, I noticed the hot wire screw was loose! Thanks Sperry!!! This GFCI had passed the Commercial Electric test previously. (I swapped a another GFCI in for now and will test this GFCI and maybe use it elsewhere.) One thing I think Sperry can improve is that while inserting the tester, other indicator lights would come on sequentially and then settle on the "Correct" light. It would be nice if the model can be updated to have a brief delay so only the correct indicator is lite after the test has been completed.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was nicely surprised when I received this receptacle/ GFCI outlet tester. I have used a Gardner Bender Electrical Inc. receptacle tester for over fifteen years to check the correct wiring of receptacles. This Sperry Stop Shock II circuit analyzer makes it a lot easier and quicker to test receptacles and GFCI's. Unlike the old outlet tester I have which has two amber and one red LED's and a chart that lists the status of the outlet by what color and which led's are lighting up the Stop Shock has an innovative clear and easy to read single LED readout that shows the status of outlets and GFCI's for correct wiring or the appropriate correction needed. This tester is a bit big and harder to put in pocket compared to other testers but the dual sided markings that speed up the testing process make it my new go to outlet tester.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] STOP SHOCK 2 GFCI OUTLET TESTER, nice large tool with easy to read lettering. You have read outs, correct, bad ground, open neutral, hot/Gnd/Rev and a test for GFC! I went around testing outlets in the house and found one that did not light up with anything. Sure enough the outlet never had a wiring going to it, so this will be added to my Honey ToDo List!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The GCFI tester (black button) works great, and actually showed me that I will need to replace one of my outlets soon, as I had to reset it 3 times to get it to work. There are 5 different options on this and it's nice knowing whether you have a bad contact or reversed polarity, etc. The lights are LED and can be viewed from any angle. It is labeled on both sides, so if you are laying under it or it is over your head, you'll still be able to read it. This takes the guesswork out of outlet testing, and may save you money (if you have an outlet which is simply wired wrong, but not broken). This will surely save you time, and can be used as an all-in-one tool, not having to buy all the fancy testers nor a multi-meter. It's advertised to withstand a 10 ft. drop and 250 lbs of crushing force, though I have yet to confirm. It's a nice tool to throw in the go bag for any professional. This is not an audible tool however, for those wondering.

Does this tester diagnose miswiring problems on both regular outlets and GFCI outles? Or does it only work with GFCI ones?

I just want to make sure I can use this tester to diagnose miswiring problems on non-GFCI outlets.

There is a typo in the description. The sentence should read, "The Stop Shock II includes a GFCI test function to test outlets wired in parallel to GFCI circuits (bathroom, kitchen and outdoor receptacles require GFCI protection)."

Some of the earlier versions of these had a problem with Eaton/Cutler Hammer AFCI breakers manufactured around 2005-2008. As soon as the tester was plugged into a circuit it would trip. Does anyone know if this has been solved?
