Rated 5 de 5 de par Just what I needed for my re-purposed greenhouse! After searching for the perfect roof for my re-purposed greenhouse that I made out of old windows, fence boards and tin I found these clear panels to be just what I needed. Being an older woman with limited carpentry skills I found the panels amazingly easy to work with. They were very easy to cut with tin snips and I was able to install them onto the roof by myself. They are very lightweight. If I hadn't gone and had to get stitches in my finger from using an old jigsaw (I should have purchased a new from Home Depot!) I would have had a finished product to show you. Oh well, I'll send more photos later :}

Rated 4 de 5 de par Good - but use hearing protection when cutting! I just installed this to extend my shed roof over an outdoor work area. It was easy to work with, flexible, and seems strong. I like that it's truly clear, as it lets plenty of light through. I followed advice and used a finishing/plywood blade, backward, on my skillsaw. The Suntuf cut easily, but the noise when cutting is terrible. I did not have hearing protection, and if it had been a bigger job, I would have quit. It was actually painful. It's advised to pre-drill holes for roofing screws, and I did, but a couple of the holes weren't perfectly placed. I just pushed through, and had no problem with cracking. I'm sure that wouldn't be the case if it were cold out.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Outstanding Replaced 40-year-old fiberglass panels with these polycarbonate panels about eight years ago on a rental property. The fiberglass worked fine but it's almost opaque...I needed transparent panels because the cover is on the east; otherwise it's too gloomy in the winter. Installed with neoprene gasketed self-drilling screws. They still look new after eight years of intense mile-high-altitude sunshine, three feet snowfalls, and 1/2" hail. Perfection! IMHO the square corrugation profile is appropriate in an urban area. Much more acceptable than the old fashioned curved profile.

The cheaper clear plastic roofing gets brittle and fails within a year of Arkansas weather (16 to 100 degrees). This stuff doesn't fail and last literally for years. I use it to cover a section of my chicken coops yard and also to provide a wind barrier for the chickens underneath their coop. I use screws with wingnuts so I can put it on when it starts getting cooler (for the windbreak), the roof has been up for two years already.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Survives Snow Loads I installed a number of the Suntuf clear panels in the summer of 2005 to cover my front and rear decks. Some people say they break easily, but mine have survived many feet of wet snow on them every winter. I think the secret to a good installation is to use fir strips every two feet and use the rubber washer on the metal roofing screws to hold them down. I live in serious snow country so over built everything under it to make sure it could handle the snow loads.

Rated 5 de 5 de par great for shed I used several of these panels with the 2" woodtite fasteners and coated the threads with DAP Silicone Max 10.1 oz. Clear Premium Exterior/Interior Window, Door and Siding Silicone Sealant attached with Suntuf 24 in. Horizontal Wood Closure Strips (5-Pack). Remember to drill holes into these wood Closure strips before installing fasteners or they will split. Just use a bit a little smaller than the fastener. Someone else on here suggested the Silicone Sealant for the fastener threads and I took the advise and glad I did. Very few leaks with I have been able to seal up.

Rated 5 de 5 de par 4 years of seasonal success with Suntuf Every Christmas I screen in our patio with Suntuf panels to provide a dining room for our holiday family dinners. This material works stupendously. It nails, drills and cuts smooth (Cut with a fine tooth radial blade through masking tape). It's very UV resistant as long as you face the correct side out toward the sun. (I have 12 panels that have been my patio cover for over 10 years. I can still crawl on them without any problem with cracking. Those who have problems may have picked up materials that got mixed in from the next rack up at Home Depot... clear PVC is worthless for UV resistance.) I leave the "room" up until high February winds blow out the panels; they undergo wind flexing and flight, etc. with no damage... I would leave the room up year round, except my wife says it looks "trailer trashy". Which I really have no problem with. The material seems pricey compared to the alternatives. But it's been totally worth it for constructability. And I'm a cheapskate. Used gasketed nails to prevent roof leaks.

I cut wanted to put a review to let people know these are really easy to cut with tin snips. It's more like cutting thick leather than cutting brittle plastic. It's very malleable and easy to cut a straight-ish line....

Can tou cut these panels

Posée par: Alby
Yes, they are not too hard to cut - the ridges make it harder to keep straight.

Are the horizontal plastic closure strips needed? Or can I just screw the roofing panel directly into the rafters? It's for a small (4ft by 10ft) roof for a treehouse. Rafters are 2x4's that are 2 feet on center.
Posée par: dk
Without the closures on ALL FOUR ROOF EDGES, the wind will tear it right off within a year.

Does this product work well in a rib horizontal orientation? Several small greenhouse designs use this method.

Posée par: Kenn
I don't know why it wouldn't. You can overlap the upper section on the lower section by a rib or two to keep out unwanted moisture. Mine is oriented vertically, so I can't say that I have direct knowledge of a horizontal installation.

How to cut polycarbonate lengthwise. Can it be cut with a jigsaw?

Posée par: Susie
Yes. My friend use a fine blade. All cuts, in either direction, came out well. Do not rush, and be sure to have support for both sides of the piece.

How many screws per panel? If purlins and rafters are 24" O.C. and panel is 8' long
Posée par: Roofguy
IF your purlins are 24" OC, I would put a row of screws at each Purlin with a minimum of 4 screws each, including the ridge purlin and the girt or plate. Keep in mind the panels are 26" and you will overlap them so your 4th screw would be through two panels, most likely at the rafter (24") so the would be 5 rows of 4 screws or 20 screws per panel.
