Rated 1 de 5 de par Make sure you get what you paid for. Purchased a box of these, only to get home and realize that the package was returned at one point and was missing 5 anchors, with 2 more being damaged beyond the point of being able to be used (head/threads being damaged). Called the store and was initially told I can get 50% off by the associate which I deemed satisfactory. A manager then got on the phone and rejected the previously agreed upon offer while being rude and condescending. I was told that I had to drive back to the store (1hr round trip in a snow storm) to exchange it for a new package. A mistake on their end (not verifying that the returned product actually contains what it should before reselling it) ends up being my headache. I am extremely dissatisfied with Home Depot and the customer service offered.

Rated 5 de 5 de par The Hex-Head design sells me I have a home constructed with all exterior walls of four and eight inch thickpoured concrete with ICF (insulating concrete forms). The forms are of 2.5-inch thick polystyrene which has essentially no holding power for screws. Vertical cedar corner boards for the siding and the cedar trim boards around windows are working loose after twelve years. I hammer drill through the boards, the polystyrene and into the concrete to fasten the cedar trim boards using this concrete anchoring product. It works very well. I tried other fasters with Phillips screw heads finding that the Phillips heads stripped before the fasteners could be fully driven. This hex-head screw product withstands considerably more torque without the issue of stripping out. I had trouble finding this fastener in quantities less than 100, The Home Depot stocking it.

Easy going in and holds strong. I needed to hang several planting pots on my backyard wall. On my concrete wall I have an additional wood fence for privacy. The 1/4 an 5 in Hex head was long enough to penetrate and secure giving me room to mount the pots and the head locked everything in. After aiding potting soil and plants it has proven to be strong enough to support the weight of the pots and plants.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Works well when all the instructions are followed These fasteners seem to hold really well in concrete. The only thing I would say is make sure that you have drilled the pilot holes deep enough. According to some fine print on the box I got this was an extra half inch deeper than the anchor would actually go. Also make sure the hole is cleaned out pretty well. Without doing those two things using these can be a pretty frustrating experience.

It does not work at all. the 7" is overall length, the effective hole depth is a lot less 2. I end up buying 1/4, 3-1/4L Tapcon screws 75 packs, the smallest pack I only need only need 16, so the rest are wasted, including 5" are wasted. don't think I can return drill bits and 5".

Rated 4 de 5 de par Buy a longer bit!! Tapcon says to use their 3/16"x 5 1/2" bit. Don't do that. Once you put enough of the bit in your drill chuck there is only about 4 7/8" of actual drill penetration into the concrete, so the anchors bottom out before actually securing what you are trying to attach. Buy a 7" or longer 3/16" masonry bit from another manufacturer and set a depth gauge in order to get full depth holes and then the anchors work great.

why are the 5 inch not in the store 1/4 x5 tapcon screws

I see there on line

They are probably low demand and Home Depot wants to save its shelf space for products that sell more frequently. However, it is quite easy to just order them online and then pick them up in the store after they arrive (you will be sent an email). There is no extra charge to have them sent to the store, you just have to wait several days to get them.

What is the minimum depth of embedment? I don't need much strength, 80 or 100 lb straight pullout. Thank you in advance.

Posée par: CallMeIshmael

Are these good for an ICF wall? With 3.5" of drywall+styrofoam I'll get 1.5" in the concrete. But is it bad for all the weight hung on these screws to be 3.5" off the concrete? I've read some DIYers do this, but can any TAPCON reps, pros, or MEs comment?
